  1. colors and composition seems nice but it's just abstract art. it's hard to justify spending so much money on a canvas a kid smeared paint on. there is something there though that she just doesn't rub everything together to a brown blob like most kids. i guess i could see the value in it being some of her first paintings, if she were to become a very famous artist. That's holding onto something a really long time though on a chance if you're anyone but friends or family.
  2. i wasn't talking about them figuring out any particular stand location, despite they will. if they've seen what's perceived as danger above in the trees before they'll start looking in the trees for anything out of place. i hunt from a climber for the reason you just said in conjunction with not worrying about someone else also hunting in my stand adding to tipping the deer off to activity in it. year after year the local deer herd keeps to a general pattern. deer shift their ranges for a lot of reasons. mostly they know it's around that time of the year and relocate to areas they associate with safety or better cover. might not be your case but just getting things ready like checking stand locations and trail cameras can seem the same as hunting pressure to a deer. they care about it much less prior to hard antler. also deer travel and don't just come across traces of you being where you otherwise haven't been all year but every joe hunter in within it's range of a likely more than a square mile. during the 2nd week or so in November there's still breeding going on and they still need food and water. the deer don't just wait until dark. they do so in patches of cover that sees less people pressure and sometimes their range shifts all together. for example a property a buck's movement was centered around he might be on the outskirts of his new range and he might only be show up once or twice all season. yet a wood lot or swamp a couple miles away will have day time activity most days of the week and be the center of his new temporary range. I've patterned older bucks and a small number of recognizable doe that did this sort of thing and that's just what i think. year after year multiple occasions that shift happens within a day or two, regardless of exact people activities too.
  3. Admittedly not my first arrow. My best group of the night though. I need to get outside though with some more room. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. 1 out of 10... none of my calls seem to work early in the AM. A couple hours prior to noon they all come alive, so i've got to give myself something. box, slate, pusher, or diaphragm seems i'm horrible at all of them. turkeys come in just so i shut up.
  5. does it really matter if they come in to laugh at ya though?
  6. learned behavior but there might be something genetic that lends itself to a deer's character being more on edge like Phade already said. trait would only help them survive. i think more so it's a learned behavior. anyone here think about how often you've sat in a stand and let deer walk or got busted. how many times year after year is your stand in the same spot. a doe picks up on this and their buck fawns are taught to do what momma does. they relocate but carry that learned behavior. so despite you've got the perfect setup and don't get busted, they might still be looking because miles down the road they were indirectly taught by a hunter who was less stealth like. more this saves their butt the more they'll rely on it. also the term nocturnal is BS as people seem to understand it. deer don't stop all activity. they've just become aware what areas to avoid during daylight hours. they still run around just as much as they otherwise would. just not near your stand overlooking the food plot you've been hunting day in and day out. same goes for ground blinds. i've brushed some in and had deer bed 10 yards in front of them. same sit other deer came in and as soon as they saw it they got all uneasy through no fault of the setup.
  7. Update as there's not a forum to put this in like Rochester's. Event was SOLD OUT. People who attended went home with tons of great stuff. Here's a few pictures that just got kicked back, don't have prize winner photos yet. Pics of most of the board (including me), the room, and some local recently taken heads we displayed. If Culver's banquet is still selling tickets i highly recommend going. Another one coming up in Albany. Some others going on through the state i'm not as familiar with as well. https://www.qdma.com/get-involved/events/action~agenda/request_format~html/cat_ids~495/
  8. looks great and a quick turn around.
  9. Not long ago i had Buckmasters send me a Buck fixed blade knife. it broke in half being worked very little. Buck said that's odd and that it was guaranteed. just send it back. with postage it would've been cheaper to just order the knife from Buck to replace it. They don't make stuff like they used to. Today's world is full of gold and garbage to fit any budget. There's way more of the latter too.
  10. i was checking out a knife we had in our silent auction at the banquet this past weekend. it was an LT Wright Bushbaby HC very simple but not a bad knife. One guy i know makes awesome knives but i'd be reluctant to use it so much they're so nice. that's RT Custom Knives.
  11. what's up with the chain link fence? hunt near a populated or non-huntable area? nice slide show. great buck with some age that hit to dirt. congrats to you or whomever took it.
  12. i have one. high volume shooting is just painful without one. tough for my wife to load her Beretta fresher mags without it. learning curve is a few mags deep to be proficient and that's it.
  13. at a banquet i won one of the raffle buckets over the weekend. had a gift certificate for Battle Hill Brewery out of Fort Ann, NY. Looks like we'll be going there soon. Anyone been? https://battlehillbrewing.com/beer.php
  14. bandits games are the most rowdy pro sports games i've ever been too. based on my experience years ago, it's guaranteed some old lady that's 70+ yrs old pregamed and is got one of those in at least one hand while talking a bunch of sh*t to the other team. all while the announcer gets people chanting "to the box. to the box. to the box...." "what's he got he got?! Nothing!"
  15. even budget barrels of today shoot really well. i've never broke in a gun really. cleaned them correctly and more frequently when new. it's just something that takes a little time and will inevitably get done by shooting and using it.

  17. hey worst case, during apocalyptic times if saying "hey. i know how to use a compass and map. i'm getting us out of here." gets you laid at least it won't be so bad.
  18. mouse pad and pint glass?.... you hit the jackpot. i admit though i've passed over that beer countless times. i had their burly beard oatmeal stout. wasn't bad to too much like black coffee to me. i'd have so much more appreciation for them if i was a coffee drinker.
  19. drinking tasty half cocked shooters versus straight shots all night until you reach 60 of them? in all honesty if you still feel 30 you can only drink that many. you can do it!
  20. Grampy there's not the same folks but a couple out our way. mine is sold out but there's still the Capitol District branch banquet. i may help out with that one if my schedule works.
  21. ...or you just show up to parties because you're invited by a friend (not with benefits) that's female and happens to be banging the frat (illegal one at that) president and you get anything you could ask for without the hazing and questionable requests. it was an awesome thing. no lie though you see things and wonder if someone will flip a switch and you'll be on the receiving end of bad sh*t or a beat down. they always said "na you're cool."
  22. with nukes going off we're all screwed with wind currents that'll carry RAM across the landscape. probably equally screwed from everything like utilities and municipalities being destroyed. you head a general direction i guess but you're still screwed if you happen to be in the wrong place. unless you're in a specially designed concrete and dirt bunker with special ventilation (that still has to be maintained) and a TLD on your chest with the means to read it and replace it the odds are against you. lol dooms day preppers are funny, despite their intentions and effort are admirable. i suppose it wouldn't hurt though to know how to read a compass and map when the time comes.
  23. wish i was closer. I'll try to round up some guys out this way for shoots out here.
  24. i was always going to setup a profile on archerytalk but never have. no worries i've just picked up my second recurve now. next trad bow when it comes, involves much big and better plans.
