  1. very cool buck and great mount.
  2. the group takes enough good ones i'm surprised you don't send teeth in to DeerAge or Matson's lab. some at DEC are good at replacement and wear but many others not so much. you can't be unless you back check what you're doing somehow.
  3. most Troegs beer isn't bad. i did have Dream Weaver though and that was not for me. that much pepper doesn't belong in beer.
  4. had the Flu all weekend. checking in i see Tree House finally made an appearance here. ever since the wife had Equilibrium she's craving good beer. I might be onto something.
  5. you're right and as i said it can happen. hell i've shot at a deer with a 30-06 within bow range and got a the tree between us. deer froze for a second. much more often than not though they run a little farther away just out of range and stand there assessing what's happened. sound is a moot point. crossbows are loud. compounds not so much. my Bear recurve stealthly quiet. even more so my custom recurve is like silent death. it's possible this tech gets developed and it has more KE when it's sending an arrow. maybe even changes to accept an actual broadhead. contrary to maybe what Doc was eluding to, i'm not ignorant to that. as an engineer i think it's totally feasible. still i'm in the group that thinks crossbows, while not like vertical bows, are still archery implements that belong in archery season. it's the subjective question of 'is this different enough?' i'd compare it to single shot rifles versus repeaters. one has a clear advantage and people choose repeaters. that said someone who goes afield with a single shot rifle isn't exactly capped at the knees. that first shot is still no different and more often than not that's all it took when a deer dies.
  6. having lived at both ends of the state it's a western vs eastern delineation.
  7. well ask a straight man to hurry along and bring you a sandwich and see what happens. lol
  8. think about the second shot opportunities you'd get with a gun and why they wouldn't be with a bow. a gun has more range and much less of an opening for a clear trajectory path if you're say in the woods compared to a crossbow. under a very limited number of circumstances will that second chance be within clear crossbow range.
  9. i just did. the intent of my comment was more headed in a direction of non-hunting use. storm had a good point that it might be a good alternative for someone who can have or use a gun. i don't think this will take off for a hunting application though. just maybe for small game but not for big game. the bolt size and fps is lethal but not near the terminal performance you're getting from what's on the market now. also you can't use broadheads and small game blunt heads of any size. my air gun comment was in relation to home protection that's not a traditional gun. i don't see anything illegal about it either for hunting, even for NY regs, i never said it was though. irrelevant anyways, because i wouldn't hunt with it compared to what's out there now.
  10. i could possibly see the likely use as a defensive weapon versus big game hunting. that said there's a lot of semi-auto air rifles and pistols that do some serious damage too. cool idea but limited market for it i'd think.
  11. i agree with others. i'm somewhat involved with a local snowmobile club. post everything up and set "rules" to keep the peace but some folks who have nothing to do with the club abuse the privilege of private land access. club gets bitched at. they bitch to whom listens which are the ones that follow the rules, as well as put up things like gates. honestly it's barely worth it much of the state when we don't get and keep snow often enough to make the effort worth it. i'd bet lots of money it's locals who are just free loading and just ruining it for the rest of the community who gives a damn.
  12. you show me someone who needs and thinks they can get off multiple crossbow shots at a deer and i'll show you someone who needs a tracking dog and only some hopes n dreams of someday tagging a deer. doesn't change anything. i admit i haven't watched the video but that doesn't look like the hardest hitting setup either. more novelty than hunting implement.
  13. if you've patterned it or take advantage of an opportunity. most i know who took one here in NY had dumb luck they were in the right spot at the right time.
  14. i just posted in the other thread i've yet to see a bear in the wild. i've even held cubs from the zoo before but no wild ones in sight.
  15. i've got an elite scorpion with G10 grips too but you've gotta have something with a nice wood grip.
  16. poor guy looks sad. i think he's stuck! lol
  17. i'm feeling a little under the weather. if i'm home i'm making my ass something good like ribs or something smoked.
  18. i've seen moose but no bear. on a couple occasions only people have seen them on the farm. same for trail cam pictures. yet one person literally shot a 250lb dressed boar from practically under my stand one year. some people in the area got made at him but most congratulated him. bear is weird. there's a season but we don't have many at all around. get up into the bigger tracts of land around here and there are more.
  19. i don't know how you use facebook for anything without having a profile. even if it doesn't have any info with it.
  20. i could draw fairly well and did a lot when i was younger. both my parents and i hung on to a lot, even if it was on plain old lined sheets of paper. they've got a sketch of their house hanging in a hallway that i did. definitely another i did for my great grandmother on black ink scratch paper that's gotten passed back down of Nubble lighthouse in Maine (it was where she vacationed and owned a "camp"). my art teacher in middle school was blown and matted it for me. in 4th grade my teacher had captain america comics. during play time i sketched the cover of one where he's jumping out of the rag with his shield. then colored it in with crayola markers. guaranteed though none are worth a damn to anyone else. lol parent's signed me up for an art instruction institute and the structure and lack of freedom killed it for me. i barely draw anything anymore. i hope they just let her have fun and don't try to exploit the situation.
  21. "okay i'm done here. i accept cash or credit." hell of a job to have.
  22. you have to play to win. that said a 14 yr old kid pulled $10 out of his pocket at ours and won a $400 Stihl chainsaw. just have to think positive!
  23. maybe but if you go to that banquet of Bob's I'm willing to bet he has a 6.5 Creedmoor Bergara bolt action that would call to you. "2019 Gun of the Year".
  24. i bet he comes home from work bothered and the wife routinely asks "what's up your a**!?"
