20 yards?! dang that's far. might have to make it a recurve crossbow instead.
-
i was going to pick up a xbow if this got passed in the budget. i'm a paying guest at the Capital Region branch banquet coming up. i'm sure they'll have one to try and win some how. that said i haven't touched the compounds in months. just last night i did in efforts to fit up my TightSpot quiver to my recurve. This year could be it.

your probably the third person i've known to have shot one this year. i better get my .22 cal pee-shooter out.
-
that's actually a really hard question. i'm not sure. i know of guys that kill ridiculously big deer every year. they're good but i think it has more to do with how they've set themselves up. others that don't really have a spot but manage to find one and fill tags with something decent.

that photo has been around the internet for couple years. still crazy though.

don't make my decision harder. bad enough Moog keeps planting the seed for me to fully commit!
-
that's awesome.

that's pretty unique. too bad.

that's right some mom with a mini-van full of kids, late to soccer practice. has to be, as she'd probably look up and say "God! Why!?", while slightly crying in despair. lol totally makes sense.

Who has spring food plots started
dbHunterNY replied to Just Lucky's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
i've got seed ready just haven't planted anything. we've had on and off snow and frost so it's hard to start something new vs frost seeding an existing plot. -
hope it serves her well. my thoughts are youth releases with an adjustable post still don't go short enough. the ones with the nylon straps seem to be able to shorten up well so she's not reaching at all and her relaxed finger would be right there at the trigger.

For Firearms Buffs and Historians
dbHunterNY replied to airedale's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
not exactly firearms related but out this way there's Ulysses S Grant's cottage where he stayed to get away from it all when he got ill and years later died there. Everything is supposed to be exactly as it was left. i'd like to fit that in this summer too. -

Any one else get a muscle strain from drawing back a bow .
dbHunterNY replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
i was talking about rotation but that is true depending on how well or if it's tied in and something to watch. i tie my tubeless peeps in with BCY thread. i wrap around peep itself, above it, and below it. equal wraps around string on either side of peep. it's a continuous run of thread. maybe excessive but it doesn't move. i'd post a picture if i was home. -

i've realized crap i can see that's off or whatever say a slightly rotated peep, effects my shooting more than a slight change in draw length. pretty sure it's a mental thing that most people seem to deal with. -

i've noticed peep alignment changes a little if your strands (individual not just splitting colors) aren't balanced on either side of peep, even on a new string. draw length might change. not sure but i haven't noticed any significant difference to where it effected my shooting. -

i do think this is a myth from way back when before limbs were so parallel and limbs were less efficient. with modern bows i agree. i think a person would have more success shooting at anything not being over bowed and fatigued then trying to squeeze every last bit of fps out of a bow. -
i know more vertical bow hunters that pick up a crossbow the last two weeks than gun only hunters getting into crossbow. if you're a gun only hunter there's a big learning curve to setup differently to get in closer than you're used to. that's probably the biggest hurdle i've seen with gun hunters i know switching to them. i noticed the same setup issue when going from compound that i'm good with to a limited skills with a traditional bow.

it's killing me as i've still got one of my best stands still out. i bring everything in for the off season but i'm mostly in treestands. i get leaving the blinds despite i've had some snow cave them in and stretch the fabric.
-
same here with the muzzleloader. i can hold under 6" groups at 200 yrds though. it weird i've had some not leave much of a blood trail and others it was like you dumped a bucket. same shot placement too with neither one hitting bone. one of them with no blood trail turned the heart into a dozen or so pieces. i think it's just your shooting into a deer and different stuff happens every time.

Rob it depends on how much time and money you want to invest in it. i'd first try the coke or salt and vinegar baths. if that doesn't work run right over to Harbor Freight and get a Made in China $20 4" angle grinder or better yet their belt sander to use to keep it and other things sharp. if i was around i'd help you out but i've been all over lately.

Looking for a compact point/shoot digital camera
dbHunterNY replied to Pygmy's topic in General Chit Chat
I've got a point and shoot probably a couple kicking around some where. i also have a really fancy dslr nikon that gets used mostly during the holidays and that's it. the entire rest of the year i'm using my S7 smart phone set to HDR. Go figure. -
we've always been rifle country out this way. so i've never really had a dedicated slug gun. i know of others with them and no complaints.
