Deer take numbers shows the Decline.
dbHunterNY replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
it's ridiculous i know of public state land in other states that have self check stations. also out this way we have co-ops with unmanned check stations. literally people are volunteering to fill out a form with just about any information DEC could use on it. i know our reporting rate isn't 100% but it's well above a super majority. smaller co-ops that are easier to keep an eye on are 100% checked in. -
Deer take numbers shows the Decline.
dbHunterNY replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
on our co-op and neighbors some have been backing off on doe harvest. they're noticeably observing less than they're used to which is the intent. it really sways the numbers as two co-ops in this WMU one year made up 25% of the antlerless take. we make up about 20% of the WMU with only two co-ops. we don't get the amount of tags you do out that way, which makes sense, but we still have more than enough if you really wanted to fill them. i mean we're seen as heartless savages by some now but if we really wanted to lay waste to the doe herd DEC has given us the means to with their tag structure of just over the counter tags. DEC doesn't realize how much the harvest is based on hunters holding off for whatever reasons. they just see it as oh we over did it, versus hey there's more nice bucks running around then normal this year, so i'll wait. they should definitely go to an over the counter every doe tag is a lottery for a specific area deal. also quit the antlerless tag on a button buck nonsense. people wouldn't be so worried then. if they had a lottery doe tag they'd fill it and DEC would have a better idea of what the doe numbers actually are. need to fill one before you go back to get another but they're available to the right people then. -
blasphemy!

seems fulfilling. if you can pull it off then why not. many probably have too many financial or family obligations. props to her for coming along.

that's awesome. -
we're seeing a lot of deer out, here at the other end of the state. that time of year, especially with all the snow we've gotten.

Not an old string. It's a new one Bear Archery sent me. it settles after shooting a little bit right after being unstrung. i kept track of brace height which is how i noticed. sounds like i'll just leave it strung from now on. i was warying of doing so because the last one delaminated. Bear Archery said it was a fluke though and sent me a new bow at the time, which is the same bow i'm still using now. once i need a string i'll just PM steve. last i left my tuning i was adding more Goldtip weights screwed in behind the inserts. i wanted to use 100gr heads and the GT traditional 400 arrows i already have.

I'm slowly getting stuff too. Not sure what you're getting i've figured i'd hold out for a turret vs single stage press.
-
so i've got mine tuned before and then fear of ruining the bow, i unstrung it. it was fine but took longer than i thought for it to settle back in to the BH and where i had it tuned. maybe the flemish twist factory string? it works but it toyed with my mind until i got used to the idea. do you leave yours strung and just shoot it here and there?

My dad and uncles taught me mostly the basics of how to hunt deer. None of them really hunted small game. Dad taught me how to shoot but mostly safety and gun care. My one uncle taught me a little about bows. Aside from that it is growing up on the family farm heading to the woods as a kid with loads of 20ga or 22LR ammo. After once I hunted alone it was hitting the woods or just spending as much time scouting/watching deer and getting close to them as I could. Didn't get as much from it, but I'd read everything I could and watched hunting shows back when they weren't so focused on the end result too. My family was that way though. If I asked how to get somewhere my dad would hand me the keys to a set of wheels with a full tank of gas, then a map, and show me "you're here" and where you want to go is there.

Ammo+steel plates+revolvers= cure for spring fever
dbHunterNY replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Soon I'd like to do the same with mine. Last outing we burned up ammo with our 9mm shooting bowling pins off a table. Reactive targets are addictive. That's some good shooting to shoot a compact revolver like that. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

wake up, gather up my things, and go to work. we'll see what the work load brings. maybe i'll roll in late or take a day. very difficult to kill a bird where the properties are that i hunt and get to work on time. they're in opposite directions.

everyone has different stuff they like to bring but many bring the same. resurfaced targets can make an arrow pull hard, same if you're shooting a setup that really drives them into the foam. someone should have an arrow puller in your group. also some like to bring arrow lube to make it easier to remove them. for arrows many i know bring around half dozen. depends on how far and how good of a shot you are but other shooters sometimes hit your arrows. if you miss or hit something that pulled out within the foam your field point might get deformed. i bring a few extra nocks and points for those reasons but never use them. most bring some kind of hip quiver to keep stuff in. mine is a nicer one and hypothetically could hold an open beer in the big center pocket. otherwise a decent pair of binoculars is nice to see where the scoring rings are. for 3D, bullseyes are on the target face not like real life where you're shooting with path of penetration in mind. i also have a small towel attached to my quiver for drying off light precipitation, my sweat, etc.

i doubt statewide anyway. possibly in very specific areas but not many. in many areas of the state they still aren't common enough to justify two seasons per year.

....a trail of empty tide pods. it was then believed the great and powerful Burmjohn had recruited millennials as a backup, knowing full well they'd protect any and all information found and read on the internet. bubba still with an arrow wound in his a** would be clearly in poor condition for any journey on foot. with the potential for hoards of minority millennials nearby Papist and Biz said "hop in now or we're leaving!" and then....

Steve closed his eyes and couldn't bare the view. he sensed something was coming hard and fast. Whack! He hit the flloor in a daze. His face hurt like hell from whatever it was that connected. Was his vision restored? It was but shielding everything from his view was the presence of a white cloud of dust. WNYBuckhunter had antiqued him! "Where's my tractor?!" WNYBuckhunter said. Before Steve could utter a word the penthouse suite doors flung open and......

To get your blood boiling

i just get a chuckle out of the person that argues the whole time with the anti-gun mindset and then passively says "nobody's trying to take away your gun." -
