  1. for my hunting setup i turned my bow up a little and needed 300 spine shafts. i picked up Bloodsport Hunter 300 arrows and they seem to work just fine. dead deer and accurate. i square the ends and index all the inserts the same.
  2. congrats Moog! it's hard not to get caught up in the pursuit of it all and not just big antlers, but everything having to do with higher standards or simply more effort. i just had to hit a mental reset button. maybe i'll post it in another thread.
  3. can't get out until the weekend. saturday morning is looking awesome though. just hope i have enough to keep me warm for being out all day. working on schedule to take off a few days.
  4. keep after him. i'm sure it wasn't the first time he's "dodged a bullet". i've got busted by some and never saw them again. biggest buck i've taken in NY i missed with a bow by hitting a branch. i watched as he walked off with nothing i could do. i still ended up putting a tag on him after that early season miss. hang in there.
  5. looks like just a grey graphite lumber "crayon". can write on wet or treated lumber, with thicker more visible marks than your every day construction pencil. these days you see more fluorescent colors that are more visible. probably just lost the paper like wrapper that rips easily with use.
  6. i used a TRU Ball Beast II wrist buckle strap release. i won't drop it or feel bad if it breaks. if i do drop it, it won't likely break like high end releases i also have with polished sears. I have (2) $200+ Stan Shootoff releases i use with certain bow setups (backup hunting/outdoor 3D). they're indentical but one's black out version. the other is chrome and not as ideal for hunting.
  7. Yea pretty slow. No rain here I eastern by but wind making tree tops dance around. Staying a little longer then headed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. First customer of the am. Little guy is devouring browse. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. Yesterday AM had 12 doe come in and 1 buck with awesome potential I passed at as close as 5 or so yards. Same stand this AM. Wind screwy but still works. Blowing pretty good though. Nothing yet. Got biggest bucks all on last round of card pulls yesterday. Walked in with VS-1 on my boots. In case something's in the wrong spot behind me. An hour before this stand usually produces. Fingers crossed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. i have no idea. lol i've been doing it since before i could legally hunt. i have yet to have a deer processed, despite sending in boned out meat in 20 lb at a time for venison products to be made. i haven't had complaints but who knows if i'm actually doing it right. we use a Hobart grinder from my dad's old store. some of my relatives that borrow it throw a lot in there i don't. thing just eats it and sucks it in but i just make sure my meat is separate.
  11. i more with you on this. i'm extremely picky and do a lot of trimming. i separate muscle groups and cut away almost anything else. i don't waste much for actual meat, but blood shot covered ribs around the area of the entrance and exit i don't try to get into and clean off. i often get somewhere in the low 40's for % of dressed weight. i've noticed over the years it fluctuates a little buck to doe and 4.5+ year old deer with big skeletal frames vs younger.
  12. should've channeled your inner Grampy. too bad. Phade will shoot it.
  13. grew up on family farm running and fixing equipment and other associated duties. once a clerk at my grandfathers store. worked on immediate family owned apartments. worked trades for my multiple uncles' carpentry and masonry construction businesses. after college i used my degree to be an electrical engineer/design consultant in the construction field. been almost 10 years doing the last one. that's it so far at 34 yrs of age.
  14. BS... pull out the driver. don't over exert yourself. now just let it roll. nothing pretty but at the pin. now lift your beer and own it ...just not too high so it's broadcasted for everyone to see.
  15. probably next up to bat on QDMA's list is lowering hunting age, not to get into a tangent.
  16. All this is kind of a moot point as many people don't even know how wind effects a brick being throw through the air. Let alone a slug or bullet traveling out past 200 yards. BDC or similar reticle does work for doping elevation. I've used them. Says right in my Nikon owners manual to basically shoot and see what each bubble is. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. I'd eat that cheese and rice ALL day .....with wild game of course! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. Someday I'll have one too. I'll have to add those to the list for this coming spring banquet. Every time I see banquet goers bidding or trying to win it like it's Christmas I get a guilt ridden and back down lettinf them have it. lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. i'd be looking for any slopes of moderate cover within a few hundred yards or so of the picked corn, for the deer to stage in with some room to mill around. find a spot downwind of it with a strip of thicker cover you can watch. i wouldn't think too many deer are hitting that too hard until closer to 2 pm or so. they'll give the field time to settle but the deer won't wait until dusk i'd think. it's a dinner bell.
  20. i played the odds with 4K to help out a veggy farmer. i lost. DEC ran away with my $10. lol should've just said 4J. stopped them for second round too even, because of people filling them on adjacent WMU's per DEC. i've got enough tags though. no worries.
  21. i've had bad experiences at both local and big box stores. just have to feel things out i guess.
  22. most properties aren't that big. don't break them up if you don't have to. like uncle nicky said if you're bow hunting it helps to be concealed in a blind. if you've got a good late season food source like corn then birds will be in it. you can setup the blind brushed in a little right at the spot they're coming in and they'll still walk right to it.
