Fine just don't tell others that and don't forget to vote (and given your will, I hope not for Cuomo) -
Not so sure about the NRA
dbHunterNY replied to bubba's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
NRA is big org so it's flawed by nature in some ways but it's still a helping hand in the fight. We need all the help we can get. They unknowingly helped Kristen gillibrand get elected to where she is now and out of this gun toting county. It's in the past though. Resentment toward her still runs deep in this county. We move on and look toward the task at hand which is voting Cuomo out and not voting for anyone who may or not have fooled us in the past. -

These should get reversed when it comes to priority. Cuomo would be her boss and still the one pushing things and signing things into law. Not a good situation regardless of her stance. Don't mean to rail this post but we all have to realize you'd still be voting for Cuomo. Astorino for governor or turn in your guns now. -

45 degree separation back and forth from step to step. Stand height step should be for foot opposite the stand side of you too! Or you'll have a heck of a time crossing legs and doing weird things to get into your stand which is never good even attached to the tree the whole time.

Bring a hammer and let it sit in the linemans loop of your harness. Use linemans line and you'll be able to use two hands start the step with taping it in with a hammer. Some are pretty dull and it'll make your life easier.

Yea I Start them positioned 135 degrees off from your stand location. As you go up rotate around the tree to your stand stopping above the seat 90 degrees from the direction of the stand. Like some others I also like the ones with a angled up tip. Turn them out a turn once a year or every other year to keep them off the tree otherwise when the tree grows not perfectly up you be able to still back them out or remove them. Got that problem with a couple stands now.

Go bottom of knee cap high from the ground or previous step and no more. Depends on you

300 yards is a poke with a rifle at a deer but do able. People around here think because they have a bdc reticle they can shoot 400+. Then they hit the deer in the butt do to wind and wonder why. We've always had rifle but wish it'd go to shotgun. That said it'll be worlds of new opportunity with a rifle compared to slug gun when you head out. It'll definitely be a refreshing change for you guys.

Questions about buying land
dbHunterNY replied to TheHeavyHand's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
dirt, rock, or minerals basically. don't think it extends to water and what not but I could be wrong. -
aside from the local club shoots, a summer league has started. there's room for improvement as i shot three 8's but still ended up with a 303 out of possible 330 for 30 targets.

Yea go to a shop and try some with a compatible peep on your bow. Get a peep that's the right angle for your draw length and bow setup that also has a hood. Then just buy the one to suit your needs go with minimum power needed to clear up pins so you don't degrade the image out farther. They work like reading glasses. Specialty archery probably makes a peep and lens you need.

If you have the knowledge and resources to get fixed blades shooting well then go with them otherwise go with a modest cutting diameter mechanical. You don't need diameter over 2" and your penetration will suffer. I've he great luck with Rage heads so far for several years now. I haven't lost a deer. Every time ones shot though I check it clean it and sharpen or replace anything as needed. Same as you would any other head. Mechanicals are inherently more accurate but with less penetration. With your setup you shouldn't need to worry about penetration though unless you hit square into the shoulder.

Nice double bearded anything is cool when it comes to turkey's. Congrats

It depends a lot on the bow geometry and brace height with how long you can get away with. What most people have are just aesthetic. They can help reduce shock noise and vibration if it exists enough with your bow. Other aspect is ballast, weight, and length which together will help limit effects from ill effects of grip unsmooth release and movement of pins. More so the farther out you go. You want the bow to have a slight tilt or roll forward when free in your hand. Hang bow from top cam or wheel and centered over the axle. if your rest contact point is directly under it then you're probably as front heavy as you want to go. The farther out weight has more effect or just as much as heavier weight closer to the riser. More weight slows pin floating while on target. For example my 3d bow has a carbon fiber shaft so most weight is out there at 12" for full effect yet doesn't over weight the bow. This setup is a little tough in a blind though.

Anyone install their own Above Ground Pool?
dbHunterNY replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Installed a couple at my parents house with others. Sand is important and the pad is even better on top of that. The pockets from sand are weak points years down the road so if something is over it like the pad then that would be good. That's really the only point of failure for an agp. It helps to have your exit line from the pool to the filter in a spot where you can drain water for winterizing. Bolt ladders down into pool from above deck if you've got one. It helps to put a pad or something soft in your pool under the ladder so it doesn't rub on the liner. Find or renting a manual roller helps that you can fill with water to pack it all opposed to just leveling it with rakes. We had big landscaping rakes which worked better. -
Astorino picks a running ,mate.
dbHunterNY replied to bubba's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Absolutely. Here in NY he sits on a throne. Take that away and he wouldn't have much left. Assistant to De Blasio? Lol We all know it'd send a huge message if he lost and Bill Clinton would say "See I told ya so!" -

I understand your frustration Mr VJP but again it's not you guys or you or us. It's we. It's got to be. If you're voting and you're not moving then you're with us. Please do try and stay optimistic. You make it seem like its a war and not a battle. Although you're right about that, wars are never won with pessimistic state of mind. -

dbHunterNY replied to bubba's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Gentlemen I think if you can't get along in these forums it's hopeless to think you're together in this fight for freedoms this nation was founded on. Mr VJP you are right the fight has always been going on and will continue. I'm pretty new to these forums so I don't know any choices made by some in the past. I do think that now is a time we need to all be together not pointing fingers at mistakes or ignorance of the past. The once ignorant are needed by your side if you.... Meaning we.... Are going to keep are freedoms from eroding away. Sure you can move to Texas but to many of us maybe even yourself here is home. I have a co-worker that just shipped out. If we all leave this state is blue and the next suddenly purple. States would get checked off the list as "hopeless" now few red states would be left. Anyone who chooses to fight here in the front lines of ny has some admiration from myself. Not because of what they did or didn't do in the past but because they stand beside me now for the same cause. It's been pointed out that this election is about more than just guns. -
Astorino picks a running ,mate.
dbHunterNY replied to bubba's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There is no independent candidate right now because they haven't endorsed anyone or had a primary yet. If anything it'd be Astorino. You can't vote for someone just because of the letter after their last name. Things have become too skewed from the historical ideals of each party. NYC mayor de basio is an independent and he's more of a democrat than Cuomo. Go to astorino site and read what he's about. He's all about being independent as in truly working together to get things done to the satisfaction of NY voters. As an elected county exec in westchester he has to be independent of both parties otherwise as a republican in a democratic county he'd never get anything done or get elected to begin with. -
Bringing your target up will help. It's easier to shoot with better form when not shooting at a downward angle. Really good and follow through is what you need when paper tuning. Try not to extend any fingers as it causes your hand to be tense. You want your hand and fingers relaxed with a low wrist and hand pushed back a little so it locks into place. Paper tuning at different distances is to reassure the tune. It's possible to have a perfect bullet hole when not tuned. Basically the nock end is flexing back and forth past being straight after the arrow is released. It makes sure it's not just going through the paper coincidentally when it's straight but still oscillating. Hope this is all clear enough to follow. Good luck and keep asking questions if you need to.

You have to understand not everybody cares about guns. My wife's grandma doesn't understand the safe act and could careless. In the same convo I mentioned how Cuomo would legalize pot. She was floored and went off saying he's crazy and a nut case. She usually votes left. Also I've talked to teachers. Bring up how common core is pushed by Cuomo but what about the kid the doesn't learn the same. Super standardized testing and this stuff leaves him or her in the dust. Teachers get floored because it doesn't hive them as many options to help a kid like that. Learning differently than others doesn't always come with a title either. How? Know talking points for different folk. If each gun person voted and had a voice to swing just one from the other side the numbers are there. Cuomo would be slaughtered. Everyone makes his backing blown up bigger than it really is. The lost published Siena polls still showing him slightly ahead are absolute BS. Other polls don't. Even that poll shows job approval rating near 40%. We beat his father and he hated upstate much less. It's most definitely possible it's just we're in a position where today it takes work to earn freedom. It's no longer a right. Don't forget the others either They all can fall. -
nice I feel like that is what I'd do if I shot a bear. haven't hunted for them or seen any yet.
