  1. Another thing how many practice on nice level ground. Ever shoot a deer on nice level ground. Maybe you western ny'ers have but out here in eastern ny we've got uneven ground.
  2. Haven't wounded a deer yet with a bow not sure why not. I guess I'm due. Lucky misses hitting twigs though that could've gone bad. Recurve shots are limited to 15 yards. Practice out to 20 yards mostly and sometimes 30+ with the recurve. With compound I shoot competition too and practice out to 80 or more depending on where I am. Shots are limited to much less though. With a heavy arrow with good front of center I still won't shoot at anything that far. Not even a bigger vital like an elk. Just too much can happen before the arrow gets there. Between animal reacting to load it's front legs and whirling around you should not be aiming where vitals are anyway. Aim where you think they'll go. 20 yards you can aim just below centerline. 30 you should be aiming bottom 1/3 and 40 you're aiming at bottom edge of its body. 50 well you're probably better off aiming just below and hope you miss but it'll drop it heart right into path of arrow. Whether or not it'll whirl away depends on a lot of stuff which changes your left to right. If you hold right behind to shoulder and it whirls you'll be into shoulder blade. Each deer and case is different. Takes a lot of dead deer to start figuring it out too. More than I've shot. You discuss and combine experience with other good shooters that call their shots.
  3. great job... congrats it came out nice.
  4. Vanguard s2 is a great gun. Others can be good but it's like playing the lottery and most likely get something average
  5. I'll agree 223 is good. Ammo is cheap now and available.
  6. Nobody is really given a hard time with that issue. However the g5 mech designs have always been a barbed style.
  7. Good head it looks like as long as it's concentric
  8. I have a cousin that's used them it's a good design but requires a little more effort to tune same as a fixed blade. I haven't used them as I'm still stuck killing deer with rage heads.
  9. I seem to be floating around 300 and above. Busy as all heck this summer but still managing to get out to shoots. Had the usual bow league yesterday evening. Ended up with a 306/330. Three targets I messed up and shot scores of 8 on. Anyone else out there shooting?
  10. yup but it's most definitely a good idea. so it's something I'd do anyway.
  11. wife and I did the forms when they became available. we shouldn't show up anywhere.
  12. Looks good and practical. Definitely get their use. Parents have two ATVs and a gator. ATVs hardly get ridden. They can get disgustingly expensive. If you ever price a fully loaded can-am commander you know what I mean!
  13. Only Remington I've got is a 742 woodsmaster. If they throw out a recall on that they would be opening up a very old can of worms and have people scratching heads Haha good luck all. Hope the turn around is quick.
  14. So there's lots one can do to mount a scope well. You can use a torque screw driver to tighten mount screws evenly. You can use non-permanent thread lock to keep screws from loosening. Use torx head screws that don't strip easy and good grip on the head. Probably least common though is using alignment tools and lapping the scope rings for perfect alignment and max grip. Im curious. Any of you do this stuff?
  15. There's a difference between shooting through brush and picking a small opening in it to shoot through. I avoid it if at all possible. What I referenced before was a big heavier bullet and was still an effect. I think jack o'connor logic posted is sound though even today many years later.
  16. Yea like I said before go with the lowest you can to atill see the pins that way distant targets won't get fuzzy. They should've been able to order one.
  17. Yup! and by the time they're here if this election doesn't go well all you'll find is pellet guns, muzzleloaders, and expensive taxed ammo.
  18. Sounds like they've caught it early and have educated plans for hunters to prevent any spreading as much as possible. Good they caught the other associated location too. Definitely good.
  19. Full time job getting ready for winter. Grocery bills are $500 a trip to the store.
  20. Never heard of them I'll have to check them out.
  21. I was looking through a Swarovski scoop the other day. Man was that thing sweet! Not applicable to this convo though. Lol
