  1. not much to growing them but I wouldn't waste your time doing it for deer either. way better off with brassicas.
  2. Yea when I gt it to shooting well enough I'm happy with I'll look to see how the provided tapes will match up. If they don't enough I'll have to make my own.
  3. a premium complete string sets are close to $100 for their standard colors... if you pick the colors it's like $110. custom materials, serving colors, etc and now the set is $120. so the price is probably close if it's a good set. usually though if you buy a set from a shop they'll put on at no charge and tune the bow. $40 is fair fee to tune but some include it with installing the string. they'll quickly tune things close enough to kill deer.
  4. shot it again tonight made some very slight adjustments to the rest to adjust left/right POI at 60 yards versus 20 yards and testing groups. I think I've got it dialed in a bit more.... getting there.
  5. I didn't want to spend the money a good auto so I got a good pump with reduced recoil. I ended up with a Benelli Supernova in advantage timber. it has the comfortech stock. I've shot stuff like Remington 1100 and a few other autos and recoil is equal or slightly less. a good stock and pad turn the kick into more of a push and soften it up a bit. despite many autos are dependable some have quirks, and I know the pump will always cycle. I know some with A5, 935's, and some others. Most by far I know have Benelli Super Black Eagle II's.
  6. I'm in! I'll probably post something on these forums anyway if I didn't sign up. Good luck everyone!
  7. I don't get it where those coyotes in a fence?? what are we talking about?
  8. lol.....hey good one! Remember we don't know how or why it shows up yet. Just because you test your deer doesn't mean they can't get it. I'm sure you'll do what you can to make it go away fast or there's plenty of people to make it goes away for ya. IF.... it comes down to CWD effecting people, I think we'll see a little more action and more of your tax dollars going toward correcting it. The industry for hunting free range cervids dwarfs yours, so I'm sure it's got some fight in it. That's what I foresee and my glasses help me see pretty well, actually perfect vision my eye doc says. Don't know what glasses you're offering up but I think they're covered in pessimistic thoughts and your dodge pickup worth of straw contents. Until then happy butt hole probing, nose blowing, and make sure you tuck those high maintenance princess bucks of yours in for the night. it's still rather chilly out.
  9. yea I noticed that... the heavier vinyl signs I've got left have done well with a plywood backer on locust wood posts. i don't have to handle them much and the wind can't catch the sign itself. definitely hold up to UV light. every 3 years I like to check the ones on trees anyway as i don't want lost nails into trees. thought about looking into spraying paper ones first. not sure what's out there for that.
  10. too difficult to tell I say 2.5 or older like the others. moog hit many of them. the transition from brisket, chest, and neck will carry from one to the other and won't be well defined. it will be heavy and "defined" or muscular as he put it in that context. vertical depth of body at a point between his belly and rear legs is another thing to look at. at 3.5-4.5 years old this will have a taper too it and the buck will have a body looking like a race horse. at 5.5 - 7.5 he'll look more like a feeder steer with chicken legs.
  11. I shoot a 345fps bow and prefer the rubber blunt heads but have and shoot the judo heads too.
  12. who was the taxidermist? nice work whoever did it. I'd have to hire the person out when I do some successful bear hunting.
  13. I used to use plastic vinyl yellow posted signs but they were expensive, became brittle, and couldn't handle the wind. I bought a massive roll of heavier paper like stuff. perforated to tear off each sign. kind of reminded me of Frogtogg rain gear material. I've been pretty happy with them.
  14. Hello? ....hey....yea.... can you put your daddy on the phone?? lol....seriously though the activities of hunters don't require bulletproof vests. hunters are becoming safer every year too. so I think maybe call your police department's NON-emergency phone number and ask them.
  15. congrats on the gun purchase and scope choice. you should start out with cheaper stuff you can find in the 150gr to 165gr range. your gun might like some of it and shoot well. So far both my guns and I like Federal 150gr Fusion ammo. My dad's Remington 7600 pump 30-06 loves Remington Cor-lokt 150gr. You can get polymer tipped copper solid 30-06 rounds for $42+ a box... even if your gun likes them, there's no sense in buying that stuff, if you don't need it.
  16. from what I seen their lack of acceptance may have had to do with diagnostic sensitivity being significantly less (less than 40%) when tested in earlier stages of infection. kind of where I was getting at the three years old thing, not that truly think you can put an exact age on when it'd fully kick in if present in a deer. nasal for a source of testing, if it works, kind of makes sense to me as it's closer to the brain then a deer's rear end. you'd be able to catch a true positive sooner in the stages of infection maybe. didn't know where USDA was on it and had no idea TB testing was only 65% accurate. the more we figure stuff like this out the better off both captive and free range deer will be. It so happens you as a deer farmer are better suited to use the testing well before it can be implemented for use in free ranging whitetail. it is what it is and for now we wait.
  17. We had some previous law breakers there. Had to give them a pellet gun to shoot provided by the state. I assume they were planning on bow hunting.
  18. so what's up with this? http://www.examiner.com/article/beck-debunks-nevada-chicom-solar-plan-but-reid-has-another-one I'm not against pursuing alternative energy but it creates a bit of a motive on behalf of the government doesn't it?
  19. I looked at them but I remember them being a bit on the heavy side to lug in and out. better I think using a life line and keeping it on the tree, along with relief strap with you. I always have my cellphone in a chest pocket too just in case.
  20. have you bothered looking into the whole rectal mucosa biopsy test for CWD and how it applies to your deer? mean I the whole gene thing of one gene have better results than the other. are your deer sitting pretty well off? I don't know if you've already spent the money and have that info knowing sire and dam. think it's worth it to have that as a focus or is it too soon? I could see it not being a good thing if your top buck or bucks have the crappier gene of the three that only gives a 1/3 the accuracy for the test, especially if your forced into it as a deer farmer.
  21. i shot a flint lock for mine with an older gentlemen about couple decades ago. for a while they have at all courses taken at the club. we instructed participants and had them shoot 22LR at reactive targets.
  22. yea ok.... an acre is about the maximum you'd want to do with minimal stuff like a drag behind an atv and hand tools like a broadcaster and sprayer.
  23. I'm at the eastern end of NY so I can't help. why don't you just do it yourself?
  24. don't hunt out that far. hope you find somebody
