    Rubs

Rubs and scrapes in 8G were late this year perhaps not until the first week of November. Still seeing some rubs, though. I also wonder if because hunters are out rattling, grunting, using estrous etc... Keeping them aggressive and moving.. We rattled in a 2.5 year old 7 pointer last weekend out of a bedding area and shot him at 20 yds
  4. Bigger bucks are the most elusive... Little bucks (1-2 year old) make more mistakes!! Also, always feels great to know you harvested the biggest and most dominant buck on your block
  5. Beautiful buck!! Congrats man.... 130 class if he had that 10th point but perhaps slightly just under. Lots of mass on those beams.. Real pretty deer
  6. 2.5.... will be a dandy next year!!
  7. Keep your wind out of bedding areas. You know the deer are in there and unfortunately they know very well they are being hunted! If it's getting down to the wire, set up a good ol deer drive with the neighbors and have the escape routes covered! Be safe tho
  8. Congrats Witty.. Thanks for sharing your story. Bucks are very elusive!!! Like right now they're pretty much back to nocturnal in my area... My best friend's father just passed away so hearing that story is special. Have fun and be safe. Now you're hooked!!
  9. Interesting topic... late season I will usually move my cams around a lot and see when, where, what is moving through. I agree with the post above that you should have entry/exit and "escape routes" covered. The colder it gets the closer you need to be to food. I shot two doe today on their escape route... especially important to hunt escape routes on public land when pressure is high... but I was on 12 acres private land. They had corn and berries in their belly. Bucks that got kicked out of areas by more dominant bucks during rut may now move in. My friend used buck bomb and rattled in a 2.5 yr old 7 pointer last night out of very thick bedding and took him out so anything can happen!!! Keep your scent from blowing into the bedding area and they should be back into a pattern again very soon. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I've been reading all of the responses and I think you very well should let them know you are disappointed for not having the opportunity to lease, if the cash money was in fact what they were looking for. Is $1800 the yearly tax? I know guys that want to make sure their yearly taxes are all covered when allowing others to hunt their land. But as stated above, there has now been an exchange of money so there are liability issues and insurance concerns. Plus, 125 acres is huge for only a couple guys. If the hunting is worth it you may have no choice but to chip in financially and make new hunting buddies.
  11. That's pretty damn cool lookin
  12. LOL... having the same problem myself. Bucks are back to being nocturnal on my cams and if they do move during the day, better believe they are watching you!!
  13. I've done fine with 150 federal fusion. It crushes WNY deer and is also economical.. Deer drop like a sack of potatoes. No tracking.. I've done enough of that during bow season throughout the years
  14. I put 2 in my 700 30-06.. but would be lying if I said I didn't have a full butt stock sleeve filled with bullets. It looks cooler that way. But yes it should only take 1 shot lol
  15. I will be in a ladder stand with my shotgun on private property behind houses over a 2 acre swampy field that we keep quiet year round. Can't be any bigger than 5 acres all together. Just so happens it's a natural pinch point that deer funnel through when other hunters are shooting like hell ... Very exciting Good luck everybody be safe
  16. Private land that we kept quiet until this weekend!! Mossberg 500 with Nikon BDC to start.. Then a switch to 700 ADL with BDC. Good luck everybody
  17. Crazy daytime buck activity in 8G I've already seen 4 bucks in stand.. 2 were ruttin hard.. grunting.. Nose to ground.. Does running for their lives!! 1 MONSTER thus far.... Good luck
  18. I've also been seeing yearlings all alone feeding while out sitting and it's not because mommy got shot. Bucks are roaming solo and big bucks i feel should make daytime appearances soon!!
  19. Maybe not lockdown mode but scent checking.. Chasing will begin this weekend IMO, respond to calls, etc. Good luck
  20. True, same with us. I think so eddie.. This was 530 pm. I feel this past week the bucks had does on lockdown around here. Finally will break out my estrous piss this weekend, up until now I've been scent free only, and stinkin up scrapes on my way out. Good luck
  21. Anyone on the forum hunting suburbs of Rochester? I live 8H but hunt 8G.. Real nice buck chasing does all around my neighborhood tonight.. Bucks all alone this week not interested in feeding... Does were runnin like hell. Just FYI... Think the rut has finally hit Rochester!! Can't wait to get in my stand Sat morning, should be similar activity. Post similar comments below for WNY activity..
  22. LOL.. at least he's wearing orange
  23. Shoot the doe!! And an hour later when a buck walks through shoot him too!!! But I'm guilty of the same, you get into a habit waiting for that buck to check your does and your freezer stays empty!
  24. Nice thread topic.. Keep the pics coming. Cant say i've taken any pics from my stand yet.. Still busy trying to fill my freezer
  25. I recommend lacrosse alpha burly 1000.. Have had mine for 5 seasons and are just starting to split at the toe box. I hunt pretty hard these are for late bow and through gun but way too warm for most of October..
