  1. a first aid kit in the field, and whats in it? (and you thought it would be a cc thread). my kit consists of bandaids, hand sanitizer (disinfects and a great fire starter), super glue, a flint, duct tape, zip ties, and a maxi pad (i hope i never need it, but is a great bandage sever bleeding.) are group has also looked into one of the emergency defibulators for the truck since our group has an average age of 52. anyone else have anything else that might be a good idea?
  2. just my opinion but this sling sounds like a good idea. ive notice the older i get the less weight i want on me when i go out. so anytime you can combine items to reduce the load is a welcome thought, especially when it comes to safety or what if things. my wife always knows when it hunting season, my 2 1/2lb bibs weigh 20+ pounds. its amazing that the little things you carry add so much so fast, your gun 7 to 12lbs, extra rounds 1 to 2lbs, water 2 to3lbs, radio gps compass spare batterys 3lbs, at least 2 knives 2lbs, first aid kit, deer drag, jerky, another 4lbs (i like jerky). add extra clothes, gloves you're any easy 30+lb and you still dont have your chair, blind, or climber. so a sling that doubles as safety rope in an emergency? sounds like a good idea...
  3. Hey Doc i understand your train of thought, but try this perspective. the current database is at the county level, managed by the county clerk, back ground checks are done by the sheriff, and approvals are done by the judge....ALL elected local offices. when its moved to albany, management and background checks are done by the state police, whose chief is appointed by the governer. little to no accountabilty is built in. if they misuse or abuse the system, you cant get rid of the offending person by simply voting them out, they would have to be accused, investigated, prossicuted, then maybe removed. Yes, all the information can now be found, but thats one more layer of checks and balances removed. as we all know how ever nyc votes is how the state goes, and i would prefer that info be kept here in my home county rather then some server in albany that the downstaters control. hope this perspective helps answer your question.
  4. GOOD!!!!!! this keeps the gun broker resellers from buying up everything on site so we can actually get some when we need them. besides if you need primers you need bullets. so its a win win all the way around. i know of another shop that always has .22s at a reasonable price (everyday)i asked him what kinda of deal he had to strike with the devil to make that happen, he said he didnt. he keeps no more then 2 boxes of shells on the shelf. someone comes in, and buys them, 15 to 20 min. later he puts out a couple more. it keeps the hoarders and profitteers from taking advantage of the turbulent times. i wish more places did this. it would help slow things down the panic ang get things back in check.
  5. your birthday is just a gentle reminder............. trout season opens in 2 days!
  6. When i left work yesterday at 6 i stepped out and it was snowing, raining and the sun was out! and people wonder why we love New York!
  7. if your trading it in, i wouldnt worry about it. it shouldnt make a difference on the trade value. if the dealer says theyre deducting more then a hundred buck or so call a salvage yard and see if you can just get another door panel. you can probably even ask for the correct color. can be changed in less then an hour, but i would just let the next owner worry about it.
  8. tried to start the season early. 3 birds in the road 2 hens one tom. its amazining how quick they can be! been seeing birds and deer going both ways to work, there everywhere.
  9. a 6.8spc II for deer is all about shot placement. shot placement, shot placement. i spent 2 seasons with my mini in 7.62x39. it can be used but there is no room for a marginal shot. there are better choices with the ar such as the 450 bushmaster or 50 beowulf. yes more recoil but it gives you more room for error if your off by a couple of inches particularly at the 75yrd and over range. i know the beowulf is very effective at a 150 yards, distances i never would even consider with the smaller calibers, they just dump them in there tracks, period. my mini is now my go to yote gun and fits that bill very well. just my 2 cents worth if experiance.
  10. lets not forget that family court judges give out restraining orders during divorce proceedings like candy. their thought is keep the conversations between parties in a controlled enviroment until everything is settled. at one point i had to hold a friends collection while he was going through his divorce to keep the police from owning them. he was not violent, nor a threat, and is able to own guns now (per the judge) but until the case was settled there was an active restraining order on both parties. so should these guns have been taken because of a 'preventive restraining order'?
  11. i keep getting ads for free pig hunts..... whats that all about??? lol

hmmm a stuffed chicken, may i suggest ham and blue cheese? lol a stuffed chicken might look kinda cool in the mouth of a stuffed yote (minus the blue cheese of course)
  16. i dont trust any of them. let me guess a 10 round is legal with 7 unless its on your dash board when you get pulled over for a inoperable tag light. the conversation could go like this, state trooper: whats that? the citizen : a 10 round mag with 7 in it state trooper: you dont have a registered 'aw' please step out of the car...... dont think it wont happen, i had a 44mag shell on my dash (i have a ruger carbine in a 44mag), was pulled over on state lands leaving from a coyote hunt ( i had a different rifle with me) and the trooper (yes trooper not encon) kept asking me where the pistol and my permit was. 20 minutes of less then comfortable conversation and 'running my info', he left, lights on, for a real emergency. It might be legal but how much is it going to cost you to prove your innocents in a court of law?
  17. it would be but all 3 officers are already members! lol
  18. yep we are past that part of the planning stage. we had some donations and savings to get us where we are now. its not so much the building, and system costs its the week to week operations that were looking to get paid. we have a strong membership thats partlly do to the affordability of a membership, so we dont want to get to out of line on pricing if we pass the expense over everyone. a pay to use system seems to have some support. was just curious if other clubs do it this way, and what the rates are. the town had a pistol team when they could still shoot in the school basement, so im sure that will get a new life. we rent our current room and outdoor range for concealed carry classes that creates some revenue. just curious if other clubs go one way or the other or a cross of both?
  19. Our local gun club is looking to put in an indoor shooting range, and we are looking for suggestion on paying for it over the long term. for years we have always made it an affordable to be members at $35 a year membership, gives you acssess to 100yd, 300yrd shooting range, fishing pond, 2 trap fields and a skeet range. (you pay $4 a round on trap and skeet). Now how do other clubs charge for and how much for use of an indoor pistol, rimfire rifle, and archery range? is it part of the dues? a fee as used? any advice would be appreciated!

  21. not sure how this state works in revising laws, if the senate or assembly reopens a law and makes revision, if the revisions get voted down, does the original law still stand? do the parts being revised still stand? do both full houses and the gov. have to vote on it or do commities vote on it? just curious, if anyone knows.
  22. how about a calender of events we can post to such as my gun club is having a turkey shoot, your club is running dog trials, things of the nature?
