Depends on where you are in NY. Most of the stone walls in the 7m, 7p area are left overs from defunct farms that went under during the depression. When abandund or tax forclosed on the state took them over and created the state lands they are now. This was done at such a large scale many small towns were consumed. When wondering around these areas you come across fence walls, barn runs, house foundations, wells, and occasionally equipment. Cemetarys area another interesting find that are normally adjacent to a church foundation. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Is there really such thing as a brush caliber?
tuckersdaddy replied to 10point's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Any caliber (even 22lr) well placed will put down a deer. However if the bullet is off the mark even by a coupe of inches (such as a branch deflection) you are changing what is putting the deer down. With a fast light bullet through the heart/lung game over... get it a little too far back your in for a hike. miss the same amout with a 45/70 you still have to walk some but your following endtrails not blood drops. I bought a ruger carbine (semi) off of gb. The seller was a pawn shop. Lots of picks, but when i got it it was so full of ash, dirt, and gunk the action wouldnt open. Since these guns are few around here and it was 1/2 the price of the others I jad been watching (for well over a year) I didnt question it from the seller or gb. A better part of a week to diassemble, clean, and reassemble is been without a doubt the handiest, reliable goto gun in my safe. It ugly but I would say I would roll the dice with gb again. So can I conclude that since NY is the fastest growing segment, that NY offers the greatest revenue growth potential? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -

7m.... And I can tell you the only reason there is an AR push here is someone or group has the ear of our state senator... Who happens to be one of the cosponsors of the bill. Ive seen more rack taken out of this area in the past 5 yrs then in the previous 30 combined. Are problem is an overpopulation issue compounded by access issues. The DEC has been addressing this with some good effect but by putting over half of the buck population off limits to those willing to fill tags with 1 1/2 yr deer is completely counter productive. Antler and antler production has become a money maker, weather its from sales of the latest mineral block or the increase in memberships... Its money. So if the qdma has no political push un this then what group is? Why would the legislature attempt to push a bill overriding whats been left to the DEC regulate? Nothing gets done in Albany that doesnt involve payouts in cash or political capitol and there arent many groups or people that have any interest in how big the rack is on the deer they just hit with thier car... So whos doing the pushing? On a side note WNY I recall someone being very vigulent about thier protests about doe only the first 2 weeks of bow in some areas... You should understand then as to why there is a large group of hunters thats not to keen on having what has been thier hunting experience forever changed by dislocated legislators.... so what you are saying is the qdma has no government ties? I see Ive hit a nerve here but im simply after transparancy as to who is pushing this bill... Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -

If you dont believe hunters dont chase rumors, hot tips, or any other lead that comes along you hunting land is privite and sucluded. Want to have some fun? post some pics of solid 8 or 10pt and slowly let it slide where thus big deer is 'at'. Just pick any cross roads on stateland. Put a trail cam up and watch the amount of traffic you get opening week. So as this new AR proposal goes into effect, It will get all sorts of praise.. Look at all these 8pt plus racks out program grows, check out these bucks from Madison county..... Next year there will be no stateland you will be able to comfortably hunt in Madison county, as the chasers flock. Now for the QDMA... There website is where I verified them being a 504c. Which ever way this prop falls will effect the popularity of the organisation here in NY... giving them a vested intrest... less people less money.. that simple. Im not downing thier processes on growing deer, just the money push behind it. WNY ill buy you a beer sometime and explain the whole deal... but whats on the surface is a sales pitch. You may have also missed one point.. What will the long term effects on hunting in NY be? AR with the good genetics in much of NY would increase the amount of horn in NY. As the horn increases the increase in out of state hunters increase (theres that revenue thing again), The tv hunters start showing up and NY becomes the next hot spot. With much of the stateland already crowded at times the bucks become overhunted (happening in many midwest states now). So what does this mean? More people after the same deer, many locals getting push out of areas they have hunted thier whole life, and just a less desirable experiance. We are already seeing some of it as less land in Masachusets and New Jersey beccomes huntable. the influx of out of state hunters is rising. So to add fuel to the fire just isnt appealing to me. qdma with no vested intrest??? Thier sole exsistance is the buzz around shooting large antler. Take an average hunter with a bit of property tell them they can nurture healthy deer, you have thier attention for mabey 15 seconds until mention the work involved. Mention you can lead them down a path to 175 antler score they dont hear about the work... they just write the check for membership, magazines, hats and anything else. Its a sales pitch. No revenue no qdma. If ARs are passed the same person will have no choice but to turn to qdma to grow big bucks just to shoot a deer on his own property. No vested intrest? yea right. I see... no other source... So its belief not proven...hmmmm.... Lets look at Ma nature. She does not care about age structue... She belives in only the strong in health and mind survive. When predidation ( and yes we are apex in NY) the young and very old are the first to be taken. When was the last time you saw a yote take on a mature deer? Big cats can be a different story but the young are always the first choice. So the argument that all the young bucks get shot is simply invalid. The weak ones needing to feed or the dumb ones that think the middle of open woods is good cover during prime hunting hours are the ones that get shot, and make no mistake about it this happens with doe as well.. but I never hear the AR groups say dont shoot young doe. So please stop trying to hide the fact that these group are out for a higher cause... They have vested intrest which make any study or pole questionable if not invalid. Dont make your buying decisions o anticapated future jobs... You may not put any money in your pocket so base your purchase on current finaces. Now I say this not meaning you wont get work for it, Im saying this because operational cost will consume what income you get. Take for example your truck and trailer. More then adequate for the occasional use you are giving it now... Now whats will the situation be in 7 years when the tractor is payed off... a worn out truck, trailer, and tractor with maintanace costs exceeding the tractor payment per month, or the need to purchase new again. And on another note LLC are not cheap. starting around $1500 buy in, reaccuring yearly fees, and an afternoon a month of nonproductive paperwork. So my advise? Same as someone already gave.. rent for the current need, really plan out the future need. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
