I would pay more for better education. I have been paying more and now we are 16th in the world when it comes to education, we are tied with Poland...I heard a Polish guy tell a joke the other day and it went something like this. How many Americans does it take to screw in lightbulb, Answer>> 3 one to hold bulb and 2 to pick up step ladder and and walk in circle with it, HA, HA, HA...

I witnessed a young women from the city of Middletown talking to friends about how she was going to have a big ole familiy, I want 10 kids she stated. If you knew this women you would see that there was no chance in hell of her ever even supporting one child on her income and she already had 3 with no man in sight? She was making her life plans fully knowing the taxpayer would flip the bill for everyone of her little future miracles. So how precious is life really?

Grows throws some very good points about the contradictions that political and religious partys stand by on this thing. Me, well i just feel that getting between a women and her reproductive parts is off limits for politicians and church and maybe just men in general. With this new law they did make a 12 week your choice and after that "no choice".. that alone is a big compromise for a state like Arkansas, Im sure there are many down there that would like to ban choice all together. I have to admit that i dont care for the late term process where the baby comes out looking too much like a baby, but again, thats not for me to decide or try to forbid.

Who the hell was it Barney Fife?

Retailers and resturaunts are seeing the same lack of people out and about in many areas of NY and even worse in other states. I think its a sign of the times and really is the new norm. Home Depots, Lowes, even Wally World have seen huge drops in sales in the last 2 years. Hopefully it rebounds one day or just doesnt get much worse.

Hey dont the Jews have a militant camp in Sullivan county somewhere, maybe we could get the two camps together for a big pickanick or something and see what happens? -
Geno you have a septic tank and a precast concrete ring with a lid in sandy soil that can be completely replaced for less than 4K. Up here you have to contact the county dept of health and the DEP to even talk and make appointments for them to maybe talk to you about your proposed septic project. Then the DEP and county dept of health come to your land and do a perk test which you pay 500 bucks for. once that is complete you then head to an engineer who will draw you plans for a septic tank and leach field after he does his inspections, 3K easy for the blueprint. If your soil isnt optimum for septic absorbtion, which the DEP will let you know after a month or 2 you will be required to bring in anywhere from 20 to several hundred hundred cubic yards of soil to make it that way. I have put in several septic systems here in upstate NY with the winner being in the NYC water shed at a cost of 37 thousand bucks, and the cheapest at 18K, yea no kidding. Taxes up here like you stated are higher and when you talk about what your mortages are(3K a month) means nothing, we have 2million dollar houses up here and we have 100 thousand dollar houses up here too, just not stacked on top of each other like LI, your mortage is all relative to the value of what ever home you buy. your taxes and mortage may be crazy, but whos arent? people on long island have this misconception that upstate is cheap and that is nowhere near true. in many if not most aspects it will cost you more to live up here than on LI. Im not even getting into things like road maintenance or having to drive 40 mins to food shop or buy a 2x4, you will spend 3 times the amount in auto maintance and fuel up here too, your average upstater puts 30K a year on his or her veh easy... OH also if your planning on buying a second home up here be prepared to even pay more in taxes when the tax assessor finds out you from Long Island, hee, hee, thats alittle bonus LI'ers get to pay to help out our highway depts.
-
yea Long Island boy and with all that you get to maintain your own well and septic system, and when either one of them craps you can be in for as much as 1500-10k for a well pump or new well, plus labor, depending how deep. and that place where your poo, poo goes, well when that fails you could be in for 10, 20k or even more with DEP approvals and engineering on a new leach field etc, and triple any of that if you live in the NYC watershed. oh you also gotta get rid of your own garbage up here, thats about 70 to 100 bucks a month since you downstaters didnt want us burning our trash anymore. yea and most folks up here have to have a way to clear snow, that involves a 25 thousand dollar tractor, and knowing how to fix it to plow yer road when it snows. and your gonna need a real lawn tractor to mow your little 5 acres of heaven(4K) not one of those 800 dollar home depot specials. got news for you, dont move or buy in upstate NY unless you have money, LI is much cheaper. ive been up here for 10 years and would never leave it or consider moving back down to the sandbar but cheaper it aint..

i think what antler means is he would rather have someone trying to kill him at 150yds with a crossbow than a rifle.. -
With things like corporate greed and imminent domain looming over us and largely supported by our leadership theres no telling what will happen to our state forests and waters in the future. I heard something to the effect of a government buyout of peoples home and properties along the shores where Sandy hit. But the kicker is developers have been eyeing those areas along the ocean for years which are mostly smaller middleclass home so called bedroom communities. And our leaders have been questioned about this BUYOUT and the response was, well it isnt a good idea to have people living in an area that will be wiped out every 2 years by a 100 year storm(which is bull those houses were there forever)? But on the same note they are not saying these lands will become park land either, hence drueling developers? Watch for another big corporate capper coming your way New Yorkers...

The only hope any people of a country have in a revolt against their own government is that the military will turn. The chance of that happening are about 50/50 looking at the more recent history of revolts against governments. The time it takes for the military to turn or not makes all the differance between success and failure. The toughness of the people is usually the deciding factor. We happen to be a well armed population, and the armed forces of the military would or could be facing opposition from many angles and groups/types of people. Our military is made up of the very people they will be fighting and their toughness will come into play also. Yes our young men who are told they are the meanest toughest fighting machines on earth have been in many so called wars in the last couple of decades but the truth is none have been any more than a police action on people that were very much outgunned in weaponry and technology. I dont wanna take anything away from our brave young men and women in the military but the truth is the truth. I think if it ever really comes down to us versus them our government/controllers/rich of this country might be surprised to find themselves in a position were they are left a steppin and a fetchin... -

I can see someone who has fallin on hard times using medicaid and welfare, just lets say a mother of two whos husband dies or something and has no other way to get by, OK. But i know of a women that has 6 children with atleast 3 differant men and she collects welfare, lives in section 8 housing and has all her and childrens medical bills payed for by the state while hard working middleclass Americans are losing their health insurance. Oh and dont ask me how but she drives and almost brand new Lexus suv?

Is Joe Biden for real ?
sits in trees replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
As far out as he seems he is for real unfortunately. More than 1/2 of the countries People voted for him and he garnered support in the right states giving him well over 100 more electoral votes than the other guy. Maybe its time for people to stop blaming the Democrats for winning and start blaming the Republicans for losing? -
