Great testimonials that auto mfgers may have mixed reactions about. If every vehicle lasted 500K to 1M miles the consumers would be elated, but the entire auto industry would be bankrupted. Not exactly sure when this mfg philosophy started, but "built-in obsolescence" is evident in everything from vehicles to appliances & all things between. IE: When was last time you purchased an appliance with the anticipation it'd last 15 or so years?

DEC says Increased number of deer taken and reported in 2018
nyslowhand replied to Bigfoot 327's topic in Deer Hunting
^^^ exactly! Side note, there seems to be a "push" by the DEC to not only verify legally tagged deer at processors, but if those are also reported in DECALS. -
Interesting. Wonder what it is about those units and elastic waist bands & bib straps??

Since you're the 1st to actually admit this..I did the same, but joined AF in '67 to learn a possible civilian career as my recruiter had promised. Well... long story shortened, had no choice after basic but to work in munitions, (aka;a bomb dump) where almost all guys ended up in Viet Nam or Thailand. WTF have I done. Where's that recruiter, want to choke him!!! Suddenly amidst all the SE Asia reassignments comes a few for Germany. Anyways, that's where I was in 1969 and wasn't even aware of Woodstock at the time.

Ahhh, back in the day when "computer" meant being able to play Pong, Space Invaders or PacMan.

No thanks! I lived in Watkins Glen at the time of the Summer Jam and survived the chaos! Once in a lifetime is enough for me!

DEC says Increased number of deer taken and reported in 2018
nyslowhand replied to Bigfoot 327's topic in Deer Hunting
^^^ The DEC plays with the statistics of deer harvest. Last I knew reporting was at ~45%. To give a more accurate total DEC uses a "fudge factor" to boost the numbers up to what they think is a more realistic annual harvest. Clearly a case of - the numbers can lie or be misleading. -
Like most, I resisted the free Win10 upgrade. Just TOO social media embedded in the home page & start-ups. Well... had to get a new PC which came with Win10. First thing I did was install an app to retain the Win7 homepage & file mgr. Been flawless since, for what I use a PC for!! Win3, that's going back in time! Anyone remember the stack of 3.5" disc needed to install Win1 or Win3. Even worse was the PILE of installation discs for MS Office from same time frame! Hell I even remember the 5.25" floppy needed to start an IBM clone PC back in their infancy. Then to run a program, needed a 2nd floppy disc. AND.. a lot of DOS commands. Then to save something, needed a 3rd floppy disc. Believe I've used every version of windows, except Win8 which I also avoided. Holy crap I'm old!!!

I see the new Ford Rangers advertised with a starting MSRP of ~$20k, Then you look online and they're well above $30k. Yeah, I also have owned 3X Rangers over the past ~25yrs with a few passenger cars interspersed between. From used rust buckets to a brand new one. Wish I had my 2005 back, top of the line XLT, ext cab, 4.0/V-6, 4WD purchased new and owned for 11yrs!!! Damned truck would go anywhere & pull anything! Cost of repairs was taking its' toll on my love affair with that truck. I'm an idiot, traded it in...

Small pickup trucks are a thing of the past. Any of the newer advertised "small trucks" aren't really small or as inexpensive as imagined. Haven't seen the new Ranger yet, but assuming it's like it's step-brother GM's Colorado. A chopped down full sized truck with more interior room than bed size. Can't wait to see what MSRP Jeep puts on their new CJ hybid truck. FYI - Owner's manual https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/owner-manuals-search-results.html?make=Ford&model=Ranger&year=2000

New to chainsaws.
nyslowhand replied to zeus1gdsm's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
OP, don't want to rub salt into your wounds regarding your efforts at making a used chainsaw come back to life! Admire your DIY tenacity! Problem basically revolves around trying to make a lower $ & disposable chainsaw fully functional again. Echo, Poulon and a few other brands are in the lower priced range for a reason. They have their light-duty uses also, homeowners wanting a chainsaw to cut up a few limbs occasionally. To add to this issue, typical homeowners using a chainsaw have no clue how to maintain it. Pretty much abuse them until they die and get a new cheapo saw! What you have photo'ed looks similar to a Husquvarna sprocket assy. Mine needs oiling before/during use as they don't used sealed sprocket bearings. Don't have my owner's manual in front of me, but I never start a saw w/brake on either my Stihl or Husky. Only suggestion I have is to search for the correct owner's manual for that specific chainsaw model. A good starting place. Be warned - If you get super frustrated and decide to use a small engine repair service. the authorized Stihl/Husky sales & service near me gets ~$90/hr labor. -
Don't believe assets has anything to do with your credit score, never seen them listed on my score card..!?! All about credit purchases, bill payments & payment history.

Parker bows closing
nyslowhand replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
^^^ Trust me, there's no way to plan for these types of closings! A lot of times they are sudden, unexpected and obviously devastating. Been thru this and the company always spreads hope by telling employees there may be options to staying open. The employees get lured into a false sense of security & then the real truth emerges - BAM, shutting down! Let's hope this isn't the start of a trend for mid/hi end, US Xbow mfgers!!!! If I'm reading the letter correctly, NO warranty work will be honored regardless of when item was purchased if not received before 12/31/18. -
One aspect is your credit score, which is directly influenced my CC activity & payments, can either go up or down. Only matters for future money borrowing leverage. Since retiring, I only use my CC for emergency purchases, ie; vehicle repairs, appliances that have failed, etc. Do quickly pay off CC and haven't had to use it in over a year. Well... was recently informed my credit score was lowered due to lack of credit activity. HUH!??! Really don't care, but it's bizarre! They're actually attempting to penalize me for working within my budget and coercing me to use a CC... Don't urban landlords actually ask for a credit score before approving an apartment rental??? Any one have a new employer ask for your credit score?

Opps, my bad. As you can tell I''m not current on new vehicle models. Sorry!

My opinion on AR, exactly!!! Micro-manage your own area, to the best of your ability. Do NOT worry about what's going on in adjacent properties! Shoot what you can tag and live with the results of your management efforts. If neighbors agree to participate in similar voluntary restrictions, even better. Possibly even bend your own restriction for special circumstances, ie; a youth, 1st timer, elderly or a physically challenged hunter. Never will understand why the DEC caved-in to public pressure to implement ARs in certain areas..!??! Squeaky wheel syndrome.

BTW - Trailhawk. Bought a smaller Jeep SUV a couple years ago in the Trailhawk model. Hugely disappointed, but still love the 8 way adj driver seat. Most comfy seat I've ever sat in with over 50+ years of owning vehicles. Like a lot of you have mentioned I also was read the riot act from my EX when 1st Christmas came around. If we need something for the house, we'll buy it when needed, not as a gift for a special occasion!!!! Making B'days, Anniv & Christmas shopping for her a PITA. Had to be something that spoiled her like jewelery, get-aways, etc. WOW, a $30k vehicle as a Xmas gift. Please adopt me!!!!

trail cam - hiding vs spooking
nyslowhand replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Obviously when you remove a new trail cam from the packaging it has a lot of manufacturing process &/or assembly odors on it. If you place a new cam on a tree w/o removing those & your own scents, yeah the deer probably smell something different in their "hood". JMO, the biggest factor of how deer perceive or react to a cam is tied to how the property is used & intruded into. If you have property you enjoy year around & check cams frequently, the deer behave differently to intrusions & human odors. Conversely, if you rarely go onto the hunting property, a strange odor can be alarming to them. Again JMO, those damned power indicator, triggering lights attract more attention than the cam, straps or odors do. Clearly any night time triggering with large LED flash arrays will get their immediate attention opposed to the more recent black light cam models. Every deer is different as is every cam location, so do what works best for your situation. What I've found works best for me may not work for everyone! -
Damned dude, hope you're okay and it's just some muscle issue. Super lucky it happened close to the road and not several 100yrds into the woods. Give you the same advice my dad gave me - Don't get old! Wish he'd have elaborated a little more...

OP, you'd do yourself a favor if you searched & went to a strictly ML site, Then look for threads about your specific ML rifle and what loads others have had success with!! Most ML'ers are super finicky about what powder, charge &/or sabots work best. JMO, I'd be looking at the scope as a potential issue also. There's a 1000X different scenarios about getting a 2nd shot with a ML. JMO, maybe 90+% of the time it's the 1st shot out of a cleaned & cold barrel that you'll want "on the mark"!
