Keep in mind that following a scent trail ON THE GROUND is a single task that a bloodhound is bred for.... The movie stuff is not ALL BS, but much of it is, and yes, it's a little more complicated than that... I think I'll go to bed now...All of this Xmas family stuff has me exhausted ….I think I'll go upstairs, jump up on the bed, turn around twice and curl up next to The mermaid.. -

To answer your question in a single word, NO ... Many dogs have been bred for years and years for specialized jobs, such as trailing (hounds) or retrieving or pointing.... Most hounds are bred to bark on the trail, and many other.... Some breeds are quite specialized, and other breeds are quite versatile, but it would be asking a lot for any breed to do everything REALLY WELL... Complicating things is the fact that many breeds have had their hunting instincts bred out of them over the years for show and pet stock... Try teaching a beagle how to retrieve ducks....Reminds me of the old proverb..."Never try to teach a pig to sing...It is a waste of time and it annoys the pig..." -

You are covering a lot of territory there, Stormy...There are dog that excel at hunting wharf rats and dogs that excel at hunting mountain lions and bears, and a whole bunch of critters in between.... Then are those dogs who hang out in singles bars and hunt those split-tailed, double breasted thrashers, and that's a whole different breed...You'd have to ask BIZ about them.... -
Blueticks, Bill....And they are trailing/ treeing hounds and will run virtually anything including deer, but are most popular as coon, fox, coyote or bear hounds...

The mermaid bought me one of those, but then she decided to keep it for herself......

I use Sweet's 7.62 and clean as I would with standard CUP bullets...I have not experienced any issues...

I have not shot anything bigger than a caribou with the TTSX in 7mm caliber, but from the results I have had shooting deer sized animals, I would not hesitate to take an elk or moose with the 140 Grain 7mm... If I were shooting a 6MM, I wouldn't consider any bullet OTHER than the Barnes X type bullets..As I have said before, ask Lawdwaz about his experience with the Barnes bullets in a .243... They work very well in light for caliber bullets driven as fast as you can drive them with good accuracy and safe pressures..
-
I have been shooting TSX and TTSX bullets for several years now...I load the 120 Grain in the 7MM08 at around 3000fps, the 140 grain in the .280 Rem at about 3000 fps, and the 250 grain in the 9.3x62 at around 2600 fps... I have had excellent accuracy and terminal performance on deer with the 7MMs and on deer, caribou and moose with the 9.3... ALWAYS an exit hole on broadside shots.....

Good luck, Pilgrim..!! I hope you find a good hunt..I have never done many out of state whitetail hunts ( other than PA) because if I pay the money to hunt out of state, I'd rather hunt a species that I cannot hunt in my on back yard.. You are from Jasper, eh ??You may be my illegitimate son ( or grandson)….Hehehe...
