  1. I'd buy a TC Encore muzzleloader just like Moogs….<<SMILE>>…..
  2. No, it was shotgun/ MZ country...Shot the first deer at about 100 yards with the Encore, and while Moog was reloading it I sighted in on the second one at about 110 with my old peep sighted Hawken..The bead looked about the same size as the deer, so I decided not to try the shot and chance a bad hit....Fortunately, the deer waited around until Moog got the Encore reloaded, and there was a happy ending...For US, not the deer...
  3. That Encore sure is a shooter !! It might not be quite as good looking as the guy holding, though...Especially wearing those ragged 30 year old Carhart bibs.... Many thanks to Moog....Took me hunting....Let me use his gun....Even threw the deer in the truck for me....We had a great time visiting in the blind even before the deer showed up The Big Chooch is definitely a stand up guy !!
  4. He is a dandy, Rob....Looks like a 700 Mountain Rifle, too...<<smile>>….
  5. Good luck, John....Very cool... My coyote rig is whatever I happen to be holding when I see one...I have killed one with #4 turkey loads, one with # 6 turkey loads, one with #2 steel shot, two with the 7MM08 and one with a 9.3 x 62.....
  6. Bear....It was easier for him to walk in your footprints than to break trail on his own...I'd have done the same thing..
  7. You done GOOD, Pilgrim.....<<smile>>….
  8. Definitely hit the spine..Probably at the base of the neck, where it joins the shoulders and everything comes together... One of my hunting buddies, who grew up in Pa, always shoots his deer right there, because he wants them to go STRAIGHT DOWN, avoiding the deer running 50- 75 yards and perhaps being claimed by another hunter in the crowded PA woods of the 60s and 70s.. He calls it the SWEET SPOT..
  9. You'll never meet a better guy than Reeltime… Glad you got your machine out, Moogie...
  10. Not to be pessimistic, John, but it often is not a good sign when a deer goes down at the shot and then gets back up...Could indicate a high front leg hit, or a hit close enough to the spine to drop him temporarily, but not permanently disable him... Hoping you get him....Got my fingers crossed for you...Good Luck !!
  11. Seeing exactly the same thing here Grampy…. Not just me....Most of my friends are having the same lack of deer... I am talking 15 or 20 experienced hunters, among whom usually have a dozen or more deer down the first couple of days. This year the score is ZERO, so far..
  12. Awesome buck, Moho...Congrats !! And to think I had a bag of skittles on the table this morning but I took Good&Plentys instead...<<sigh>>...

    My deer

    Good shooting, Girlfriend.....CONGRATS !!...
  14. Congrats to all who scored today....In my area, I have never heard so few shots on an opening day....Nobody I know in my local circle of friends killed a deer today.. One thing I noticed in the success pictures...Very little snow....Here there is a foot of nasty, wet snow, and the deer are not moving, and neither are the hunters....I was in my stand today from 6:20 AM to 5:00 PM and saw two itty bitty deer... Oh well..Things can't do anything but improve....They gotta eat sometime !!..
  15. They were good little guns, Dom and only sold for about fifty bucks new....Like the M37 Deerslayers, they were probably the most accurate of the smoothbores, in the days before rifled shotgun barrels became readily available...
  16. I never had a bad snapper in my life....Some were better than others, but the worst was pretty damn good....<<GRIN>>….
  17. He was one of my favorites.....I love " Yesterday when I was Young "...
  18. I don't know about your area, but it seems like every little corner store in north central PA ( Tioga and Potter County) has a few boxes of .35 Rem on the shelf..
  19. My Canadian hunting partner is a smoker...I just went up this this morning and put an ashtray in the tower stand for him...
  20. AUUUUUGH !!…..I like green olives, but not THAT much !!!
  21. The guy was legendary around here.....He would lay on his belly in the rain for hours to make a bust..Whether some of the stuff he did was legal...I don't know..But he sure was EFFECTIVE.... One thing I will say about him...He checked me perhaps 6 times, duck hunting, deer hunting, fishing, fox hunting....And I never once knew he was there until he stepped out from behind a tree..
  22. I agree Chef..However I remember a guest on my property being checked by a game cop on MY private land because the CO heard a gunshot from the road and went in to investigate it... And this was opening day of gun season...
  23. I ran out of likes...First time ever..
  24. Sorry..I hunt along the Pennsyltucky border...Checking the two trailcams I have, I have seen 10-12 bucks and a bunch of does on our 107 acres... No real wallhangers, but a couple of decent 10 points and a couple of decent 8 points plus a bunch of smaller bucks and does.... Being a meat hunter, I am likely to shoot a smaller buck and a doe....I have no more room for trophys and small bucks and does taste much better than nasty old rutting bucks....
