I hunted the tower tonite with my son in law...Missed a doe at about 300 yards with my .280..I think I shot right over her back... Had good snow to check out the shot...Definitely a clean miss.. Gonna try tomorrow afternoon for one last chance...- 10374 replies

I'm out of "likes"....Thanks again to everybody for your thoughts, prayers and support...
-
I agree..There must be some whorehouses down there....
-
Nope...It's my buddy Jack Stone, who BTW killed a nice 8 point out of my tower last night... There have been deer in my WW food plot every evening since the snow melted...
-
Thanks, My Friends, for all of your input and well wishes.... I am going to give the young lady who helped me a nice bouquet of flowers and a turkey for her family for Xmas... Going back up to the tower tomorrow, but a buddy is taking me up with his ATV and is hunting with me, so he'll be there to help if I kill anything or have any other problems...

I won't make fun of the poor old lady on the medic alert commercials any more... Last Sunday night I hunted my tower and had just walked back to my truck, which was parked along the road on the property, since it was too sloppy to drive in.. Suddenly both of my legs felt like they were full of lead, and I went down on my knees... I tried to get back up on my feet, and did not have the strength...I placed my rifle butt in the mud along the shoulder of the road and tried to pull myself up, but could not get my legs to work.. My truck was about 25-30 yards away, so I crawled on my hands and knees through the mud and made it to the front of the truck...I grabbed the grill with both hands and tried to pull myself to my feet, but could NOT do it....By this time I had struggled for quite awhile trying to get up, and finally decided it was futile...There I was in the mud and rain on my knees on the shoulder of the ( dirt) road.. I fumbled with my cell phone, but the light went out, and I did not have my flashlight with me...After a few minutes. a vehicle came up the road, and I waved my orange hat and a pretty young lady stopped and asked me if I needed help....Hehehe.. I took an ambulance ride and spent the evening in the emergency room...My condition abated after awhile and they did all kinds of tests and ruled out some bad stuff like heart attack, stroke and some other stuff.....I went home that night but went to the Doc the next day...So far they have not come up with a reason why it occurred, just a few guesses.. Unfortunately, when I was struggling to get up, I pulled some muscles in my right thigh, so I have been gimping around dealing with that, although it is improving daily... Getting old ain't for sissies....

In Alaska and northern Canada, we quartered or boned ( boning in the field is illegal in Alaska) put the meat in meat bags and hung it in the shade...For remote places with out a meat house we used light tarps to keep it dry...By bagging it to keep it clean and keep the flies off it, and keeping it dry and shaded, you would be surprise how long meat would last, even with daytime temps in the 50s... On a couple of my Alaska trips, there were no trees to hang meat, so we piled up brush to keep air circulating under the bags and covered it with a tarp.. Our meat was fine...Just sayin'....- 10374 replies

How many acres do you hunt if it is private land .
Pygmy replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
The Mermaid and I have 107 acres...Son in law has 75 acres adjoining it... My ex-wife has 175 acres that I have permission to hunt on...Another friend has 100 acres that he let me hunt on... Since I have lived in this area all my life and have lots of friends, I probably have another 200-300 acres that I can hunt... But how much do you NEED ?? I mostly hunt our 107 acres during rifle season and my friend's 100 acres during MZ, since he has some prime acreage and it it very difficult to draw a DMP there... -
The scope kinda reminds of myself...Unfortunately, I am still simple, but not nearly as FUNCTIONAL as I used to be..<<sigh>>...

K-I-S-S...….Hehehe.....

Most of my hunting with my M70 .280 in NY, PA, Alaska and several western states and several Canadian provinces was with a fixed 4X Leupold...I have shot a couple of animals at 400 yards and a few at 300 yards with that combo, and never felt I lacked magnification....A few years ago I got a smokin deal on a like new fixed 6x by 36 MM Leupold, and that is what it currently wears... My Ruger 77 .338 mag wore a fixed 4x Leupold...Sold the rifle, but kept the scope and now it is on my CZ-550 American in 9.3 x 62... When I bought my 7MM 08 Mountain rifle about 30 years ago, I intended to mount a 4x Leupy on it...However, the gunshop I bought it from ( Grice Wholesale)was running a promotion at the time on Burris scopes...If I bought a Burris , I got rings, bases, and mounting free...They didn't have any fixed 4x Burris scopes, so I got a 2x7 x 36 MM Burris Fullfield...I have to admit it has been a good scope, and has served as my primary whitetail rifle ever since..I keep it on 2x when I am still hunting or 4X while on stand...If I get a long shot from my tower blind I turn it up to 7X...Balances nicely on the rifle and does everything optically that I need a scope to do..
-
I'm not talking about aesthetics as much as handling....Also I have looked through my 4X 33 MM M8 Leupolds enough under very low light conditions to know that it can be pretty damn dark and I can still see well... As far as filming goes, it seems like every dork on those hunting shows has a big, oversized scope on his rifle... Carry one around if you want...Just don't tell me that it makes an appreciable difference under 99% of hunting conditions, because this AIN'T my first day off the turnip truck....Hehehe... Have a good day, my friend !!….<<smile>>…..
-
Don't you DARE put a 50MM monstrosity on a fine, light hunting rifle !! 33MM or 36 MM will transmit more than enough light, unless you are hunting after dark.....The thoughts of a 50 MM on a Nula makes me want to slash my wrists !!
-
Whatever you do, don't burden a fine light HUNTING rifle with a big monstrosity of a scope... I REALLY like the Leupold 2x7 with the duplex Ret, or at most the Leupy 3x9 compact....If you think you need that much magnification..Which you don't... Don't get involved in those hi-tech range finding recticules...They are BS in a hunting rifle that will be used at what I consider normal ranges, which would be from point blank to perhaps 350 yards...

Lawdwaz had a dandy for sale on this forum just a couple of months ago and almost had to give it away...

Venison tenderloin sliced 1/2" thick and sautéed medium rare in butter, along with steamed asparagus and beer... I haven't started farting yet, but it won't be long....<< SMILE>>….

Yeah, I remember back in the fifties also... However, generally the severe weather did not really start until December....This is about the crappiest deer season that I remember, weather wise, and I ain't no spring chicken...

So good news so far this season no accidental shootings

He was a hellava game warden though..Checked me several times and I never once knew he was there until he stepped out from behind a tree.. .That guy would lay in the mud all night long to make a bust... A JP friend of mine told me that when this guy brought someone before him, he knew it was not an " iffy" case...He HAD 'em…. Since I never have done anything illegal, this is only heresay, but I heard that when he made a bust his first words were ' GOTCHA !"...Hehehe..
