  1. The same fly works well down here in Dogpatch, too....Except we call it the VPN.....The Varigated Purple Ninnyhammer.....
  2. You remember my birthday.....I'm touched, Larry...Hehehe...
  3. Study Lepidopterology ??? I can't even freakin' SAY it !!!...
  4. I'm not too keen on kites either... In fact, it seems that every time I ask The Mermaid if she wants to get lucky, she tells me to go fly a kite....
  5. That brownie is PUUUUURTY !!
  6. Here I am HURTING because I haven't got a PM yet...You guys are so cruel !!!....<< Pygmy wipes a tear from his poor, pathetic, wrinkled old face >>....
  7. I haven't got one yet.. Someone must have told her that my breath stinks, I pick my nose and I don't love Jesus.....<<sigh>>...
  8. Enjoy your friends while you've got them... I just lost another one a couple of days ago.... I don't care how healthy a lifestyle you live, once you reach your late 60's/early 70's you're living on borrowed time... Just check out the obituaries once in awhile...
  9. We had about a foot here in Dogpatch last time I checked, but it's snowed some since then.. My geriatric Cub Cadet is holding up well..Took about 3 hours this morning getting the driveway and sidewalks done, with some shovel help from The Mermaid in the tight spots and cleaning off the vehicles...
  10. I'm at the bottom of the hole waiting for Alice to land on my face....Hehehe.....
  11. Here is my basic squirrel recipe... I disjoint the squirrels four legs and the back..I trim away the neck and ribs, which don't have much meat.. Soak pieces in mild salt water overnight to help draw out any blood from bullet or shot wounds... Mix flour, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning in a plastic bag.....Shake meat in bag until covered with flour mixture.. Fry in butter over medium heat until brown..I usually add a small amount of olive oil to stretch the butter.... Place browned pieces in a 9 x 13 baking dish...Slice up an onion over squirrel...Pour in enough chicken broth to about 1/3 the level of the meat.. Cover pan with alum foil and bake in 300 degree oven until it is very tender ( about 2 hours ) Uncover pan and raise the temp to around 400 degrees..Bake until browned on top ( 20 -30 min)... Squirrel should be browned and falling off the bones tender...Make gravy from pan drippings if desired and serve over taters or rice.. This recipe works equally well for rabbit, but I find rabbit less flavorful and more bland than squirrel....
  12. I agree with Wolc that squirrel is more flavorfull than rabbit...I'll post my favorite recipe when I get a minute..However, good luck winter squirrel hunting...After deer season when things cool down, they aren't nearly as active, and sometimes stay holed up for days at a time in bitter weather, except in town...
  13. I still have my 12 gauge Rem 1100 , which I bought around 1980, but I sold the Rifled 21 " cantilever BBL along with it's El Paso Weaver K 2.5 scope to a member here several years ago...
  14. One of my best Old Fart buddies has 3 beagles and I get out with him often, as long as it is not TOO damn cold...<<shiver>>... I'M hunting faw a WABBIT..!!...<<Hehehehe>>....
  15. ..Deer have always existed in the state.....The Adirondacks have always had a deer population, as has the northern tier of PA. As I understand it, the deer population in central and western NY was pretty much exterminated due to uncontrolled hunting ( the first regulated deer seasons were around 1900) and habitat destruction..The time period where there was the most cleared land was around 1860.... There probably were some attempts to stock deer from other states, but I think most of the repopulation of whitetails in this state was due to migration from the Adirondacks, and more significantly, from PA along the long southern tier border..
  16. Pygmy

    Ice time?

Okay, Tracker...I have a hotspot up here near Dogpatch...You go first....<<grin>>.....
  17. That was the year I was hired as a lab tech at Corning Glass Works....Many years before it became Corning INC...
  18. So you probably don't remember Ray's... LOTS of quality used guns, of all descriptions. at reasonable prices.... You just don't find shops like that anymore.... The guns were in racks and you were welcome to handle them, ..HOWEVER there was a gun oil container and cloth on each rack, and if you handled a gun and neglected to wipe it down afterward, you would incur Ray's wrath...!!!
  19. I don't have any pistols, just revolvers...All are S&W....My favorite is the first one I ever bought, a M17 K-22 , which I bought from Ray Hotchkiss's gun shop off Lake Road in Horseheads/Elmira... I think it cost me about $140 new in 1974...
  20. Peter, Paul and Mary blow " Helmut Boy" away....Hehehe....
  21. That's the case down here in Dogpatch.....
  22. I had a dream last night that I dropped my skivvies and my testicles hung down to my knees.... Of course in MY case that is not a long distance, but still, everything is relative....<<sigh>>....
  23. Let me know, Tony...I'd definitely pony up a few bucks to help a fellow forum member, especially someone as friendly and talented as Dino.....
