  1. Hehehehe...That brings to mind a few of the "utilitarian" girls I woke up with in years past.....<<grin>>.....
  2. I'd hunt with the pretty wood....Honorable scars ( not the result of abuse) add character to a working gun..Guns are made to be used.. Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun...
  3. Sweet rig, Savage...My GO TO rifle is a M70 in .280 rem....With that fat recoil pad, I expected yours was a magnum of some sort... Fine looking rifle, and in .270 win...I think I love you...
  4. Chris...You ARE a sweet talker.....<<grin>>...
  5. Hunter..Sorry I did not get to visit with you at the Goat...So many people there to talk to....You were one I really was looking forward to chatting with...
  6. Great time...great guys...!! I haven't had so much fun since I watched my cross eyed aunt give Uncle an enema... BIG thanks to TF and Sodfather for setting things up !!
  7. Holy crap, Batman..!! Rifle shoots GREAT ! You shoot pretty good yourself..On my best day when I was young, dumb, and full of cum, I could not have shot an offhand group that tight.. Now I am old, rickety, and full of ****, and I need something to rest on..
  8. " I hate rude behavior in a man...I won't tolerate it" Captain Woodrow Call....Lonesome Dove.....
  9. I have had a great couple of days...established a "relationship" with a gobbler.. Interacted with him this morning for three hours until he finally quit gobbling at 10:00 AM.. Don't know why, but I'll be back there again tomorrow to try to put what I have learned the last two mornings to work... THAT is what turkey hunting is about... This morning he probably gobbled 200 times, all within 100 yards of me..I think I would have killed him if not for the untimely arrival of a deer, who walked up behind me and snorted TWICE when the bird was about 50 yards away...Those silly ass deer have screwed me up SO many times while spring gobbler hunting..They always show up at the absolutely worst time...
  10. Looks like a tree swallow... I am not sure if it is too late for ducks, but I did see a pair of geese with a bunch of tiny goslings today...That means the goose started incubating about a month ago..
  11. Dress code ?? If jeans, a ball cap and my " Eat More Possum" T-shirt aren't appropriate, I may have to cancel....
  12. You may be my illegitmate son....I was up your way pheasant hunting in 1967...
  13. " Follow the yellow brick road".....
  14. Great bird, Lee.... Congrats, my friend...
  15. Somebody better drive me home...I can't drive at night in those big cities even if I am sober...
  16. In that case a fanny pack would probably suit you fine..A buddy of mine uses a military surplus shoulder bag that works well for him...Although I don't run and gun as much as when I was younger, some of my setups are quite a distance from a road, so I'll keep using my vest.
  17. Trouble is, you can't carry a 20 pound gobbler in a fanny pack....An important feature of the utility of a good vest the ability to carry your bird out in relative comfort, especially if you hunt rough country a couple miles from the road...Carrying a big bird over your shoulder gets old real fast..A turkey sling helps, but you end up with blood all over your clothes and it still it harder than using a good vest. It also is handy for carrying extra gear like decoys, water bottle, extra clothes, etc. This is not as big an issue if you hunt close to your truck or atv. I wish I could help you with what vest to get, but I have only owned two ..the first one was a Duxbak Grand Slam like Lawdwaz had, and it served me well for many years before I finally gave up patching it together..The one I have now is a Bucklick Creek that I have had about 20 years..I really don't like it as well as my old Grand Slam, but it does the job.. They probably don't make that model anymore. It has sentimental value though, because a pretty girl helped me pick it out at the NWTF National Convention in Columbus, Ohio about 20 years ago...<<smile>>.....
  18. I think it got into some of that "jungle juice" that some of your neighbors make over there in Thurston.

    Hens

It is a dynamic situation....Most of the gobblers are in contact with hens most of the time.. However, a hen might give the gobbler the slip to go off and lay an egg, or they may get separated in other ways...If a tom is not in the company of hens, he is vulnerable.. You just have to put in your time and be lucky enough to be there on the day, or perhaps the hour, when he is devoid of female company. If you can call in the hen/hens, the gobbler will follow, but that is a crap shoot too...Sometimes you can, but often they will just ignore your calling and merrily lead the gobbler off over the hill. Ain't it FUN, though ?.....hehehehe.....
  20. No rain yet...In an hour I'll be nestled into my blind wishing I had one of Larry's cigars.. Good luck, all....Shoot 'em in the face....
  21. Congrats to all... Yesterday morning there were birds all over on the property I was hunting...Saw several, heard at least three different gobblers.. This morning it was quiet as a morgue... That's turkey hunting...Tomorrow is another day... Good luck to all...
  22. That would be a contrast to the first 5 minutes...I'm GOOD at jeopardy.....
  23. " Rents rooms by the hour" ?? What would I do for the other 55 minutes ?
