My bike was a 24" Schwinn... I had to move the seat WAY down so I could reach the pedals...

Sorry about that Philo....Think about FOOTBALL !!

When you said a KID's bike from 1969, I thought you had the chopper that Peter Fonda rode in " Easy Rider"....

That post makes me wonder a little about Steve D......

What does anyone think about a 10 gauge
Pygmy replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I also had a 10ga single shot slug gun. I kill a few deer with it I even kill one without hitting it. The 1 3/4 oz. slug was close enough that the shock wave as it passed killed it. Yeah, Larry, you don't ruin any meat that way.. That story reminds me of the way I used to hunt squirrels before I had my cosmetic surgery. I'd sneak up REAL close to a squirrel and then jump out and look him right in the eye..I was so ugly that the squirrel would take one look at me and drop over dead. I used to take my ex-wife squirrel hunting with me, but I finally had to quit taking her.. She TORE 'em UP too bad..... -

By the time the BPS was first marketed, Most shotgun barrels were designed to handle steel shot except perhaps some target models.. Anything made after '63 or perhaps '64 would be fine with steel... I wouldn't shoot steel out of my Belgian A-5 made in the 50s, however... -
I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through a book full of Jack O'Connor's articles... He's killing stuff at several hundred yards and I have not read of a variable scope OR a hunting scope above 4X yet... Of course, most of the stories so far were written in the 1950's or early 1960's...<<<GRIN>>>... In all fairness, I must admit that variable scopes became a lot more dependable in the late 60's and thereafter.. However, there are still issues of size, weight, eye relief etc., which often makes a good quality fixed power scope a good choice.. So many hunters feel that a wide range of power variation and a big objective lense make a rifle a BETTER hunting tool, and in very many cases that is not true...

To each his own, but I never climbed on the 3.5" bandwagon...I killed ducks, geese and turkeys just fine with 2 3/4" shells until I got my first 3" magnum about 40 years ago... Many of my buddies love their 3.5 s, but if it's too far for me to kill with a 3" 12 gauge, it's just too far for me to shoot at. -

The 10 gauge is a dinosaur. There is very little ballistic advantage ( if any) over the 3.5" 12 gauge, the guns are heavy and cumbersome, and the ammo can be hard to come by.. Semi auto shotguns definitely have less felt recoil than fixed breech guns like pumps and doubles all other things ( like gun weight) being equal. I can shoot a box of shells in a morning with my 3" 12 gauge 11-87 with no ill effects, but if I shoot the same loads out of my Browning over/under, I end up with a headache.. -
My Dad had a Ford 8N and much of his equiptment was horse drawn (sulky) devices converted to tractor use,,, The old sickle bar mower was designed to have a person riding on it raising and lowering the drawbar,,,His dump hayrake was converted to tractor use, as was his corn cultivator, upon which I spent many hours steering the tines with my feet, because this was before the days of atrazine, and later, roundup... The first few years on the farm we put in hay loose, using a hayloader behind the haywagon and the big fork on a rail in the top of the barn to unload the hay into the mows...it took a couple more guys with pitchforks in the mows to spread the hay around...

Looking at your ground meat ( what is this CHOPMEAT , some faggot NYC term ? ) JUST KIDDING !! Anyway, I do not think your butcher ADDED any fat, but I think he did not REMOVE enough fat from your doe... It is a lot of work to get all ( or most) of the fat, sinew, silverskin, etc. out of a fat whitetail...I suspect your butcher did not do as thorough a job of removing it as many of us who process our own meat do.

I'd love to, but I have a date to hunt bunny wabbits in the morning....Besides, since I have run my fat mouth I'd probably make a FOOL of myself....hehehe.. Seriously, though, I would love to hunt with you sometime, Lee....
-
You're lucky she didn't BITE your sorry ass......<<grin>>.... I was going to suggest that next time you take along someone who can shoot << ME !! >>.. but then when I realized how freakin COLD it looks there, I changed my mind...hehehehe...great picture, Lee....

I lean toward the springers, after having three of them...Wonderful dogs, and faithful house companions too.. My springers flushed woodcock, grouse, pheasants and rabbits and also did a fine job of retrieving ducks...I also used them a few times to scatter turkey flocks....One of them actually CAUGHT a turkey once while scattering a flock..<<grin>>... Any of the pointing breeds require a lot more formal training in order to be good hunting companions, including the britts..

Geeze, Larry, it's on the internet, it must be true... Hopefully it is, and if bonafide, congrats to the lucky hunter....

Anyone shoot .204 Ruger off the shelf ammo?
Pygmy replied to goosifer's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Shoot whatever your rifle groups well ALL .204 ammo is geared for varmints and I am sure that whatever load your rifle likes will do a good job of killing any coyote, given a solid torso hit.. It ain't like you are shooting elk here.. HIT 'em, you'll kill 'em.. -
Geeze...You're not asking for much...hehehehe.. GOOD LUCK with your aspirations...You have youth and skill on your side...
-
NONE of it's free....LOL.... One way or another, you pay for it....

Hot damn, that stuff is PURTY !! It is one thing I have never invested in.....I embarrassed myself in a brass swap with a member on this forum, who no longer posts ..<<<WHERE THE HECK ARE YA, BUBBA ???>>> I sent him a bunch of dirty (but functional) brass and he swapped me back some of the cleanest brass I have ever had.. I felt kind of like a scrounge at first, but I got over it.....
-
Damn right that was big money, Bugsy.....At that time you could get a hooker in NYC for less than 20 bucks... Don't ask me how I know that......<,GRIN>>.....

Because he is a low down sneaky BASTARD !!

Browning was no longer making guns in Belgium in 1970....I'm pretty sure the 1970 guns were made in Japan and ( I think) assembled in Utah... Still very high quality, though..I had an A-5 12 gauge Magnum of that vintage and it was a wonderful shotgun, my first 3" Magnum.. Anyway, here's the price for a 1970 Sweet Sixteen...$210 for a vent rib model, $195 for a plain barrel...According to the catalog, all Browning guns were postpaid.

I'll get the forms and do it by mail...it's easier for me to help The Mermaid with her app that way...We both have the same guns listed on our permits.

It's GOOD, Larry, but it's not THAT good....Mountain View is the bestus.... But the Campbell Legion is MUCH closer....

CHICKEN and BISQUITS !! My American Legion Post is putting on a chicken-n-bisquits dinner this evening.. $8 per person ( $6 for us old farts)....Best meal deal going for the price...The Mermaid and I are going over with my fishing buddy Howie and his lovely wife Wanda.. Howie is driving, so I'll be able to slurp down a beer or three with my meal... Life is GOOD ....<<sigh>>.....
