  1. It's certainly possible the coon was rabid, Larry..However feline distemper is very prevalent in raccoons and much more common than rabies. Coons affected with distemper often show behavior similar to rabies...Drooling, lack of fear of humans, disorientation, wandering aimlessy around in daytime.
  2. I agree that Ruger 77s are kickers.. I had one in .338 Win Mag that brutalized me shooting off the bench. I had it ported, and that reduced the felt recoil somewhat, but it STILL kicked pretty bad, and it was loud as hell after that. I finally sold it and bought a CZ in 9.3 x 62. That is kinda like a .35 Whelen on steroids. I shoot 250 and 286 grain bullets and the recoil is much more comfortable than my .338, OR any .300 mag that I have shot. It doesn't have the range of the .338, but it still shoots flat enough for the odd 300 yard shot and it delivers enough energy to cleanly kill any North American game, including the big bears.
  3. About 5 hours... However, I never sell my handloads due to liability reasons. I'm sure you are a great guy, but should something freaky happen and you were injured using one of my handloads, the blood sucking ambulance chasers would be beating down your door. Do you have a local gun club ? There are people out there who sell custom reloads. Perhaps the gun club would be a good place to ask around. You might even find some info on purchasing custom reloads or Garand specific hunting ammo on the internet. Good luck !
  4. Here's the data if you find someone in your area that wlll load for you. Any standard 150 grain soft point spritzer, such as Speer , Sierra, Hornady, Winchester power point, etc. Standard large rifle primer.... 47 grains of IMR or Hodgdon 4895.. That pretty much duplicates the load that the Garand was designed for. It also groups well in my 1903-A3 Springfield, so I use the same load for both rifles.
  5. I wish I had a place nearby where I could catch bullheads in decent numbers. I LOVE catching and eating them ! They are also one of the easiest fish to clean if you know the right way to do it.. Youtube has lots of videos showing several quick and easy methods.
  6. I usually slice it about 1/4" thick, dust it in flour and fry it butter. My Mom always used to simmer it in water with salt, pepper and a bay leaf and then let it cool in its own broth. Then she would slice it fairly thin and make sandwiches with mayo and coarse black pepper. I have taken many deer heart sandwiches into the woods with me over the years. My favorite lunch opening day of PA season is a deer heart sandwich from one I have killed previously in NY. It just seems like a fitting lunch when one is hunting deer.
  7. 7600, you are my HE-ro...!! When I grow up, I want to be just like YOU..!!
  8. I was thinking of perhaps a BI- ANALUAL event...
  9. Can I get that blonde to demonstrate how to use the product ?
  10. Jenny is a sweetheart....She was my "roomie" when I stayed at Larry's a couple years back..
  11. I bought mine in 1973 and it still works as good as it did when it was new.. Back in the day, I was pretty good at hitting running rabbits with it.
  12. Nice fish, Larry....YUM !!...Never ate a walleye I didn't like...<<grin>>...
  13. Great video...!! I haven't laughed that hard since I watched my cross-eyed aunt give uncle an enema !!
  14. Nice setup, Larry... And oh, by the way..that scope bears the official PYGMY stamp of approval.
  15. Holy crap, Larry, he's a dandy ! And he's still got another 3 weeks or so to grow...
  16. I saw my first poults yesterday. A single hen with about ten grouse sized poults. She did well to raise ten poults to that size. I hope some other hens have done as well.

    Light rain

Actually, the best selling Cologne for the Steuben County girls is " Tuna Surprise".... Internet ?? W'ere still using two tin cans and a string down here...
  18. One of my pet peeves is when I am trying to say something and someone interrupts me before I have finished talking .. Along the same line, it irks me when someone cuts in and " finishes my sentence" for me. I usually just pause, give them " THE LOOK" and say, " Well, if you will allow me to finish speaking, I'll explain it to you ."
  19. This Model Remington was mfg. from 1953 to 1982....Well before Remington's relatively recent quality issues. You are unlikely to find another rifle of this quality level in such fine condition for such a low price.

    Home alone

Do you mean actually being here at home with nobody around to bitch at me, whine, or nag me ?? Nope.. not sure HOW I would react....Unfortunately....
  21. A friend of mine has a Rem M760 in .270 for sale...It has a Nikon Monarch 3-12 Scope mounted on it.. He's asking $600 or he will sell the rifle without the scope for $400.. It is the deluxe model with basket weave checkering.. I just looked at the rifle and it is PRISTINE ! Probably 95 % NRA condition..He even has an extra mag that comes with it. I would buy it myself, but I am not a pump gun type of guy. I know he will prefer face to face cash deal....If you are interested, PM me and I will give you his contact info. It is a helluva deal..This rifle is CHERRY
  22. Crazy ass Canucks !! You don't suppose there was ALCOHOL involved, do you ?....<<grin>>....
  23. In past years I have had some experience catching, cleaning, cooking and eating snapping turtles.. The biggest ones we weighed back in those days weighed 30 pounds or a bit more. That turtle is as big or bigger than any that we ever caught. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say it weighs around 35 pounds. The only ones that I have seen that were bigger were on Lake Temagami in Ontario when I did a houseboat fishing trip a few years back.. We had been cleaning our fish and throwing the cleanings back into the lake..After a couple of days we had some HUGE snappers coming in to the fish cleanings. I would guess that a couple of them were pushing 40 pounds.
