Hehehehe...Good question Geno... No he did NOT hit anything when he drove off..I stood there visiting with an old freind of mine and his 2 golden retrievers..I'm sure that one of us or the dogs would have heard the impact...LOL.. BTW..This was in Corning...You've moved up this way now, I assume ?..

I stopped by my local credit union today to use the walk up ATM out front.. While I was there, a guy came walking out of the CU , wearing dark glasses, carrying a cane in his left hand, and holding the harness to a seeing eye dog in his right hand..The dog was a lab and was labeled " Working dog, Do Not pet, " Etc. The guy walked into the parking lot, put the dog in the passenger seat of an SUV, and then got into the DRIVER's seat and DROVE AWAY...WTF is going on .. ??

What I do is use a chicken foot dipped in sheep blood to paint footprints on the belly of a naked virgin, and then sit crossedlegged on my head underneath a coconut tree until I have a vision... The hard part is finding a virgin here in Steuben County.

Yeah, Larry... back years ago I used to be a FAIR offhand shot.... Woodchucks at 100 yards were in reasonable peril... No more...Nowadays I can't hit a bull in the ass with a banjo offhand...Unless he is REALLY close. Actually, I shoot better at MOVING targets offhand than stationary ones.. The fluid motion plus my wingshooting experience seems to help...Still, they need to be CLOSE...

I have a friend who is a deadly offhand shot.. He regularly cleans up at the turkey shoot at our local gun club shooting iron sighted military rifles against scope mounted sporters at 100 yards. I have seen him repeatedly hit a 12" square steel plates on his private 300 yard range with his Swiss K31s and Swedish Mausers shooting offhand with open issue sights and peep sights.

Yeah, I assumed that the 700 in question is NOT the BDL due to the price.. I remember seeing ADLs with tupperwear stocks, matte blue finish and a blind staggered box mag. My current 700 is a Mountain Rifle and has a DBM...I think the earlier MT Rifles had the hinged floorplate, but by the time I got around to buying one they were only making them with the DBM...I would have preferred a hinged floorplate, but I love the rifle otherwise, so I tolerate the DBM.

If it's a 12 gauge, 1" center to center groups would be touching at 100 yards also. Outstanding accuracy for a slug gun ,or a RIFLE for that matter. I started hunting back in the smoothbore/bead sight days when a shotgun that would group it's slugs on a paper plate at 75 yards was a real bragging piece. I was tickled pink when I got my first rifled barrel and started shooting 4" groups at 100 yards with BRI sabots.

Does the Remington have the hinged floorplate, or is it a blind mag.?.It gets old cycling cartridges through the blind mag to unload. I am not a big fan of detachable mags, and have always preferred a hinged floorplate, but I would take a DBM over a blind magazine.

Back when it opened on a Monday, it was always the 1st Monday after the 15th, so the earliest it could open was the 16th. Now, as previous posters have said, it is the third Saturday in November.

Allow me to "pile on" and offer you sincere congrats on a nice buck and a good job, Geno..!

Beretta has a good reputation, although I've never owned one..All of my semi shotguns have been Remington, Winchester, or Browning. They've all been good guns...Never had a lemon... A couple of my Remingtons needed "breaking in"..I had an 1100 Skeet gun ( 20) that, when it was new, would fail to extract unless in was scrupulously clean...After a few hundred rounds the problem ceased. My current 11-87 was tough on O rings when it was new. I had to replace several the first couple hundred rounds..Then that problem ceased, also..I've been using the same O ring for several years now.

My " meat gun" a .280 remington Winchester M70, has never been a tack driver... Other than a few lucky groups, it shoots no better than 2 MOA, day in and day out, and it cost me a considerable amount of time and money working up loads to get it to shoot that well. I can't comment on factory loads in that rifle because I have never fired a factory load in it. However, from a steady shooting position, I've killed several game animals at 300 yards, plus a few farther away than that. I really never recall missing ANYTHING when I could blame "lack of precision" of my rifle. I always try find a steady shooting position, even if it's only leaning against a tree...I'd rather have a 300 yard shot from a solid, steady shooting position than a 50 or 75 yard shot offhand any old day.

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to hunt the opener. I've been a lucky feller.. I have been in the woods every opening day of NY firearm deer season since 1965, plus most of the PA openers as well. I even managed to get leave for deer season when I was on active duty in the Navy.

I generally leave the machine on the trailer until I kill a deer... One exception...A place in PA where I hunt, it's a LONG , STEEP walk up to where I hunt...I drive the ATV to within a couple hundred yards of my stand.. I figure the chance of spooking a deer with it isn't worth risking a heart attack..LOL..

Anybody follow the miniseries " Boardwalk Empire" on HBO ? I love it...Many ( but not all) of the characters are based on actual people, and the story lines are SOMEWHAT historical, if you forgive a little "poetic license". The armorer for that program has done his homework..The firearms that they use are all historically correct, which appeals to the "gun nut" in me.. I was a big fan of "The Sopranos" and " Deadwood", but I think that this one is my favorite of the three... My only problem is staying awake, LOL.. Usually I have to watch the episode 2 or 3 times to catch everything..

Geeze...I guess I'll have to post a picture of myself in my lizard skin thong... -
Last week I took my M700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm08 and my Win M70 in .280 to a private range owned by a buddy of mine. Shot a group with the 7mm08..Dead on at 100..I use this rifle mostly for hunting the woods.. The .280 is my "open field rifle" ..Mounted with a Leupold fixed 6X...I was a little lower and to the right at 100, so I adjusted a couple of clicks each way..I then printed a nice 3 shot group 2.5" directly over the bull..PERFECT.. I plan to get out again this week and check the zero on my TC Hawken .50 ( peep sight) and my M1 Garand with issue peep sight..I don't expect any change in zero for these two with open sights, but I always take a few shots to confirm it. Beats hell out of missing ( or wounding) a deer and THEN discovering your sights are off.

Will rifle be legal in Livinston Co in 2014 or 15?
Pygmy replied to genesee_mohican's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I agree..I'd hate to see them ruin the deer hunting in Livingston the way they have ruined it in all of those OTHER southern zone counties, like Steuben, Yates, yada, yada, by legalizing those evil rifles in the last few years. -
He's just been working on his "pectorals"... Probably a queer deer... Is his name " Buckie"...?...

Biz...My beard IS white...That's one reason that I shave it... Actually, I used to wear a beard often, nearly always during spring and fall. However, the Mermaid, the current love of my life, HATES facial hair, so I keep it shaved most of the time. -
Of course, I meant that in a BROTHERLY kind of way...<<grin>>....

Thanks, Joe...I'm staring at those .303 Savage cartridges on my "memory shelf" as I type this. -
