  1. If it keep's the ticks or other off or away from you who give a s***. I am spraying every thing this year after being bitten 18 times by Yellow Jackets. The last time I just dropped everything and went right to the ER., Just is not worth waiing for something to happen that might kill you.
  2. Making supper now looked out the window there are 5 deer out there 70 feet away eating apples off of a wild apple tree.None of them with anything on there heads, still legal shooting time.
  3. You are not hitting it right. Yesterday and today have been windy did not go out yesterday was just too windy by me.Every day passing this one area on my property after 9:oo AM to 3:00 they have been just bedded down.I drive by with my ATV with a small wagon behind on the way to gather up firewood, they just get up walk around a little and lie down again.Happened again after noon today and there also was a flock of Turkeys just poking around also. 2 nice Toms in the bunch. And I do have my bow with me.Just waiting for the big guy to show up again. M30.
  4. Better go to the Doctor I have a friend that almost died form a tick that jumped from his dog on to him was out of work almost 3 years.
  5. I had a ( weekender ) neighbor that would walk down the road with a shot gun whenever he came up from the city. So one day as I was working outside he stops to BS , I as why are you carring that shot gun, He said just incase the mountian lion attacks me, I said really, he said yea., I asked is that gun loaded, He said you bet your *** it is ,I said you better not let a State Trooper or county cop catch you with a loaded shotgun on the road.He gus laughed and left gun still loaded.
  6. With the distance the modern Smok Poles are accurate with todays ammo for them why use iron sights. The see threw mounts ( and I have used them also in the past ) actually are the worst mounts to mount a scope on.The lower the better. Also quality mounts,Mounted the right way by a gunsmith.Unless you have the proper tools and laps to lap in the mounts and rings.
  7. As said in another post, Grow, park that shotgun and get a pistol permit, for someone that is outdoors as much as you are, doing chores. A little snub nose 38 is all you need, you do not need a cannon.I carry a little snub nose 9 shot 22 revolver small does not get in the way and it will get the job done if needed.
  8. I think I have seen more deer get spooked by the glare of a rifle scope then glasses, I wear them most of the time, Orange ones ones in the morning and near sunset and sunglasses during the bright days, very little foging if any. I found when wearing a face mask by not putting it over the nose the glasses do not fog up. Both mesh and fleece types.
  9. It is one of the best baits for Youtes and the season is on for them.Just tie it to a tree and wait.
  10. Bubbles in the blood means a Lung was hit,Put markers on the spot you hit it.And the last spot you saw blood,Go back tommorow and keep looking, start with small circles and go to larger ones.If it bleed's out you will find it. If you find it and I hope you do Condgrats on your first bow kill. Years ago a fellow Dear Search member got a call to blood track a big buck on the end of L.I. 2 days later they found it a really nice huge racked 10 pointer.
  11. Never got a deer or a fish on the Full Moon.Best time is from the New Moon to the Full Moon.
  12. Many years ago a friend on the way to Montauk Point,Avid surf fisher man hits a 10 point buck and it goes under his truck, bends the tie rod on the front end at 10:00 PM. A trooper comes along and ask's If he wants the deer,He said most of the meat is damaged and I do not enjoy eating antlers.
  13. Some of you people are too much,You ticky tack and send pictures from your cell phones about every thing that goes past you in the woods. Is it so hard to dial 911 and they will send a police offecer to your location and give you a permit for the deer.
  14. My fartheinlaw was our butcher, bro and i did the skinnig and wraping,It would take the whole day to butcher 2 deer, boneing out , roasts, chops, steaks, stew meat and chop meat.

    Scrapes

Had pictures of a buck making one 2 weeks ago.
  16. Good choice for a young fellow and his first rifel,That was my first also and bought one for my son and he got his first deer with it.A group we hunted with one of the fellowes used that rifle and caliber got his deer every year with it and I have seen him drop a good size adult doe at 100 yards with it.
  17. Glove liners when bow hunting and put wool gloves over them during gun season.I have poor curlication get cold fast, Tryed all types only when it gets near 0 deg. I wear insulated mittens ,but the are made so you can so you can slide the part covering you fingers back and shoot your gun or whatever.
  18. Good example for the last week or so 2 of the mother deer have chased there new born ( this year ) away and they do not bed together, The mothers are in a little heavier brush and sticker bushes but yet the can see all around them. The young are a level below them ( and seen it a number of times this week ) in food plots I have been cutting every 2 weeks. They have been in 2 different ones so far.But they all eat together in the morning and evening.
  19. When I had my single wide I had 2 poles from the pole on the road and and from ther to the house around 220 feet. 1 pole belonged to the power company the 2 nd. pole was mine. When I built my house I went to underground wires + phone lines. The same distance, the trenchunder, 2" pvc, the elec. cable and hook up was around $1000.00 plus the telephone wire was supplied by the phone company. No problems since and no worries.
  20. Didn't someone on another post say they bought a compact Ruger for there child and it kicks too much, forgot the caliber. If it were me I would look for a used .243 or a .270 with a Wooden stock. And an older single shot shot gun or guns.As they get older the might wan't to up grade.Or could go the other way Not Interested.
  21. Freind has gotten a few deer with his in 30 -06 but it is on older wooden stocked one. Why don't you take it back where it was bought and who sighned the paperwork for it see if they wil exchange it for what you want. Most likley will cost some but you will be happy.
  22. Something I did not mention before but it has made my shooting more consistant did this ( not by choice ) you know after 50 + years of 3 and 4 jaw chucks rollin on your hands, blocks of steel smashing your fingers, they get to a point arthritis sets in and one finger with no feeling nurve damage.I put a string loop and use a release on all of my bows, every draw is at the same spot and arrows nocked the same. Once you shoot that recurve for a while ( your hooked ) you will say why didn't I doo this sooner. M30.
  23. It depends where you are hunting, if there are a lot of other hunters in the area just sit tight, the will start moving after not seeing anything and that will start the deer moving also.
  24. You wan't something warm. Hot apple juice or cider ( from the farm ) in a thurmos. That and a PJ samwich will drive them nuts. I had a 6 pointer come running right to me from the direction the wind was blowing, too bad the rifle was on the ground and both hands were full.
