  1. Enjoy the hunt and with any luck that gator meat! I'm not a big seafood eater but I really enjoy fried gator. Every time I end up down south some place I get some. Have fun on the hunt with your boy and good luck!
  2. Either one works. But 20-60 will be most accurate. But if your not planning on taking shots over 40 yards on a regular basis you won't notice a difference. I used the 20-40 at first and found the 50 and up pins to be just a hair low. Resighted with 20-60 and switched sight tapes and all good now
  3. I read someplace they were. Story goes something like 3 guys got tired of cams busting so quick and high end ones costing a fortune and decided to build their own. Small start up company that deals on customer direct no middle man to avoid big retail mark ups. Inside these cams are supposed to be higher grade lenses, sensors and such. I kinda remember seeing a picture at one point of these guys in a warehouse assembling cameras, so if they are using Foreign parts they are at least "building" them. The 20 mins or so I spent messing around with my buddy's last night wasn't much time to really get to know it. But the controls and whole thing felt very solid and higher end feeling like reconyx does. The few pics it took of us walking around the yard quick were all nice and bright and crystal clear with beyond zero blur. One thing I've noticed when looking at pics online taken with the Exodus is that they seem to take nice pics with no blur even when there's multiple animals and big range differences. This is an area I think Brownings sometimes struggle in. My strike forces tend to blur a couple areas sometimes when there a few deer in a pic and ones at 10 yards vs the other at 20. Exodus pics just seem to be more sharp and precise. I'm interested to see how these cams perform though. At the price point they are at, if they perform and hold up these will make a lot of people very happy.
  4. That's alright, free bump for the OPs ad. Ya your right up in my neck of the woods. I'm right outside and to the west of Greenville. Tons of does here too man, my property alone is like a doe farm. It's alright though because the bucks come looking for them. Been seeing a lot of nice bucks in the area too on my mostly daily drive arounds.
  5. Anyone try the Exodus Lift cameras? I came across them last year but never pulled the trigger on one. They came out with a newer updated model called the Lift II this year that appears to have made some good improvements. Supposed to be quality built cams made right here in the US. My buddy just got one in the mail today and we played around with it in the yard tonight for a few mins and I'm pretty dang impressed with it so far. I could get two Browning strike forces for the price of one Exodus ($229) but I'm really trying to push myself to start buying higher quality built cams that are going to last me 10 years. Reconyx is one of those types of cams but at $450 a piece these Exodus cams are a bargain if they hold up as well as they claim they will. Exodus does have a 5 year warranty which is a big selling point. I think I'll end up pulling the trigger and order one this week after I see what a weeks worth of pics look like from my buddy's cam. Anyways....anyone else on here have any experience with Exodus?
  6. Like the town of Durham on the north end of the Catskills? If so that's just down the road from me.
  7. I thought the same thing when I read the part about the urines and scents. Seems pretty dumb to let NYers produce the stuff yet not sell it to their neighbors. If the deer being collected from had cwd it would need to be destroyed regardless of who was buying its piss. And your right about the people will still use whatever they want to use. Just like the baiting stuff. Field and streams bait section will be wiped out in the coming months.
  8. I think you must feel CVA peed in your cheerios and got away with it or something. They had a problem and fixed it end of story. Remington is in the process of being sued by millions of people over faulty safety's on model 700s. Remington is one of the oldest gun manufacturers in the world millions would argue they are a testament of reliability and safety. Yet they had issues, which they even have tried to cover up and ignore. So if we all shared your mentality, we should all shun Remington now too?
  9. I'll have to find the written stuff I found last year before buying my CVA but yes all CVA barrels are made by bergera. The only difference in the ones that are stamped as bergera is that they go through an extra finishing process. Other than that they are all made in the same place by the same people. The wolf is the only one that won't have it stamped on there. I'll see if I can find it again but I know it to be true, there's some muzzy pros on a muzzy forum that can tell you the same thing.
  10. CVA makes great muzzle loaders. They had some barrel issues some years back but that's all been fixed and shouldn't deter anyone thinking of buying one. Bergera now makes all of CVAs barrels. Bergera is a huge barrel company that makes high quality stuff, your not going to have any problems with the new stuff. I'm pretty dang sure that almost all of the CVA barrel blow ups stemmed from operator error. CVA used to make different model guns that were labeled as "magnum" and others weren't labeled as such. The magnums were rated to handle charges up to 150grain while the non magnums were only rated to 100. From the stories I've read, seems to be a lot of guys dropped 3 pellets in non magnum guns and then complained when the barrel blew. So in short, operator error. But CVA corrected the problem and sourced a new barrel maker that now gives their guns awesome accuracy and great reliability. I've shot all sorts of muzzle loaders but I love my cheap CVA wolf. I have tight groups out to 150 and wouldn't hesitate on a 200 yard shot if I had to. Put a quality scope on it and you have yourself a deadly little gun. Plus I like the wolfs short overall length as it makes it a great carrying gun on those long walks. I'd say hold off on the stock and upgrade your optics and you'll be even happier in the long run. Either way good luck and have fun with your new muzzy this year!
  11. Can't update the live from the stand thread if your holding your bow the whole time haha Any ground stake holder will work well for the ground blind or out of your home made blinds. I have a hook in my ground blind I use for my bow but a ground stake is just as good. Since I hunt treestands mostly, I utilize every shape and kind of bow hanger there is. Somehow I lose them a lot so I've gotten into using the cheap $1 single screw in hooks. A couple years ago I bought the whole box at Walmart and it's time I buy another box this year. I usually keep a couple in my pack just in case I need to hang more stuff in new trees.
  12. Awesome buck! I hope you get to stick an arrow in that bad boy!!
  13. This works for cars, but trucks don't depreciate at the insanely fast rates that cars do. Especially diesel trucks. I see trucks the same year as mine with mileage well over 100k going for over $20k. It's crazy man. You either really need a truck or just have money to burn to buy one these days. But I guess the upside is that they hold value for so long🤷🏼‍♂️
  14. Good job grampy! Can't ask for any better than that! You'll be ready for season this year no doubt about it. Glad your making some solid progress. Good luck to you and your grandson this fall, hope you guys tag out!
  15. I totally get what your saying, but I'm a firm believer in that there's just different kind of people who really view the purpose or reason of life in a totally different aspect. Honestly I would rather go out of this world doing something I love vs dying some slow painful death like cancer or something. I get where others think people like me are nuts, but to each his own right? But like I said before I've really mellowed out these days, I don't race anymore, hell I sold all my race bikes. Don't even have a sled anymore either. Just a atv that gets used more to ride my kids around and check trail cams more than anything.
  16. Sorry to hear that man. I lost a classmate and good friend this past winter to a snowmobile accident. It always sucks to lose friends to risky hobbies or activities. It's the unfortunate circle of life, but it does also make life worth living because it could possibly be so very short, at least that's how I try to look at it to rationalize the stupid stuff I do lol.
  17. I'm pretty dang mellow these days since I had kids. But if I end up someplace we a sweet cliff to jump from, I'll be the first one to send it. I've been beaten and broken from over a decade of motocross so I know the risks, but that brief thrill is worth it. You really can't appreciate life until you do some stuff like that. Good thing we aren't all the same, otherwise it'd be awfully boring around here[emoji14]
  18. Yep we drove the boat around where I'd land and it was like 60ft deep if I remember right. That lake has rock cliffs like that all around it and they go straight down. It's called Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma. There's a old rail road bridge in Hadley NY we used to jump off of in high school. Is a 90ft drop and a very very small area you need to land in or you hit rocks. It wasn't a jump for the faint of heart. Only 2 other buddies of mine did it with me. The old bridge across the sacandaga in Edinburg was 85 ft. Had to jump on the west side of it because the east side was shallow, this is what killed 2 teens from Amsterdam about 10 years ago. Always gotta check what your landing in before jumping and your good to go
  19. I've jumped off way higher than this, but it's the only pic I think I have of me jumping off a cliff lol
  20. https://albany.craigslist.org/for/d/deer-hunting-recreational/6227390599.html Says they have a lease available in Benson. That's up in my old stomping grounds. They are pulling some good bucks out of that area the last few years. If the price is reasonable and land looks good, that'd be a nice place to be.
  21. Unless you want to spend big money on something like Reconyx, brownings seem to be the best bet as far as I've seen the last few years. Here's a couple pics to show the quality pics you'll get from the browning strike forces. The tree line behind this buck is almost 100 yards away and it still gets some light way out there. I like cams with good lighting all the way across the picture rather than a tunnel beam of light that misses the edges of pics. These next two pics are a great example of a good detection range on a camera. Look hard and you'll see two deer pretty far out in the field. I'm impressed these cams pick up movement that far out on a regular basis.
  22. Cool pics! I'm the same and love getting to the edge of stuff like that. I also enjoy cliff and bridge jumping into water. I'm known to jump off just about anything that has at least a 50% chance of being safe lol
  23. Basecamp is the only leasing website I can recall that covers NY. The prices on there are all over the place and some of it seems way over priced. Not to mention there's a couple percent increase in price each year to boot. I do see some leases advertised on Craigslist from time to time. So keep an eye out on there for any. And the cheapest route is to find an area you want to be in and pull up the tax maps and start door knocking. Offering cash could help get you permission on land that the owners never thought about leasing before, especially older folks. Good luck
  24. They just don't look tough in my rear view[emoji13]
