I bet you catch a stud on one of those cams in the upcoming months Biz. They are going to start changing their patterns and movements real soon. I've got bucks now showing up on camera that I haven't seen yet this year. So things are starting to change. Come rut time you should have all sorts of deer wandering through that new property. That chair looks real nice. I'm gonna have to get a couple of those for my blinds. Looks nice and easy to shoot from too

Halo Range Finder
Adkhunter1590 replied to Moho81's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I bought a halo xrt6 I believe it is last summer. Has the angle compensation thing for bow hunting. I think I got it on eBay for $109 if I remember right. It has worked great since day one. I've ranged 886 yards with it and it's only rated for 600. I had a very nice and expensive leupold but I lost it and didn't feel like dropping a bunch of money on a new one. I don't use the range finder as much as most people so I get by just fine with my Halo. So far it hasn't given me any reason not to like it. For the price I don't think it can be beat -
I noticed that the other week. Had to tell the other guy at work that I'm absolutely not working Saturday night and he is haha. I need to hunt hard in October. Just made plans over the weekend to go to Nebraska for the first 2 weeks of November to chase whitetails. [emoji51]

You can rent them out west in places like Moab and stuff. they rent jeeps, side by sides and atvs. I've never seen atv rentals anywhere but out that way. It's not cheap to rent them but they are targeting people on vacations and such. You can buy a buy a brand new 400-500cc quad for 4-6 grand. And there's thousands of used ones out there for much less than that. Here's a cheap but reliable quad that I found on Craigslist in under 10 seconds https://albany.craigslist.org/snw/d/02-honda-foreman-450es/6256721333.html That's just an example. The newer you go the higher the price. Hondas also tend to hold their value quite well as they are known to be long lasting working machines. If you just using it to ride up and down the hills to your hunting stands and dragging deer out, an older honda like that would be perfect.

Big bag of clover
Adkhunter1590 replied to sailinghudson25's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Dang that's a lot of seed!! You could Seed 15+ acres with that much! I've tried 3 different types of clover so far. Whitetail institutes Fusion blend, deer creek seeds white Dutch and cabelas brand clover. Last year I did the WI and deer creek stuff and due to drought I don't think either one performed to its fullest potential. But deer creeks clover faired much better in the drought. I frost seeded the cabelas brand seed this spring and it's done very very well. -
if I win the powerball or Mega this weekend.......
Adkhunter1590 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
First I'd take 100 million and set it aside for my boys. Have some money manager do whatever they do with it to make sure my boys and down to my great grand kids never have a thing to worry about. Then I'd be buying a several thousand acre ranch in Kansas or Iowa and spend the rest of my days playing around on all the heavy machinery I could get my hands on creating the worlds most bad ass whitetail paradise. Would probably buy land in all sorts of states too just to have options and travel around the globe a bit hunting and fishing with my boys. -
Where are those plots?
Adkhunter1590 replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Section of the field that I did spray about 2 weeks ago but the sprayer was acting up and I never did the rest of the field. Shows the big difference between spraying and not spraying. I could drag this area with my spike tooth drag harrow to smooth it out and plant it as is. But since my neighbor needs to keep discing the rest of the field I won't Seed this area as he will probably drive all over it making more passes. -
Need new tires - Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Adkhunter1590 replied to moog5050's topic in General Chit Chat
Check out coopers website. They have a bunch of more aggressive ones than the AT3s. I was so close to going with their STT Pros. They look cool and have good reviews. Wife talked me out of them since the truck spends most of its time on pavement these days. But with that beast of a truck you got, they would look sweet! -
Need new tires - Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Adkhunter1590 replied to moog5050's topic in General Chit Chat
My sister had bfgs on her raptor and ram 1500. Neither one made it over 30k. But some people somehow get more out of them so you could get lucky moog. Next time around take a look at the coopers like others have mentioned. The at3s have great traction and seem to last longer than everything else I've tried. I beat the snot out of these tires and haven't had an issue yet and this will be my 3rd set now. -
Who is planning vacation days for the season?
Adkhunter1590 replied to sethf11's topic in General Chit Chat
Still haven't decided which days I'll take off yet. Most likely will be nov 3-13th. Since I work nights I'll be hunting just about every day anyways but I gotta have a rut vacation. -
Where are those plots?
Adkhunter1590 replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Clover/chicory plots are doing pretty well where I mowed them. I'm kinda surprised it came in this well for a frost seeding and pretty hard competition from grasses early on. Ended up riding over to my neighbors house while moving a couple cams this morning. Long story short he ended up coming over with a big heavy transport disc to till my field up that I planned on working on this weekend. He ran over the whole thing a few times in one direction and cut it deep. Since it wasn't sprayed the grass needs a couple days to start dying off now. He said he will be back this weekend to disc it the other direction and depending on how it looks maybe come back again in a few more days to really have it looking perfect. He tells me he likes to do it this way to avoid using chemicals and this way has worked for him for 50 years. I can't wait for it to be done so I can get some seed in the ground asap! -
So are you ready or do you still have work to do ?
Adkhunter1590 replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Can't wait until they are old enough and strong enough to really take over some tasks around here. My old man worked out of town all week so I was in charge of almost all manly house duties growing up. Splitting and stacking 10 cord of wood a year sure built character, I plan on giving my boys the same type of character building jobs lol. They are good tool gophers for now though, and at least they are learning by watching. -

Damn someone already caught on to my evil secret plan! Haha!![emoji38] If all goes to plan guess who won't have to worry about who's gonna stick the target buck first! Haha -

Forgot to mention....I would be a little farther ahead if I wasn't getting dragged away by the wife on house projects. Worked 14 hours Saturday night, shoveled 1.5 tons of corn off my truck for my neighbor as soon as I got home then mowed the lawn and weedwhacked, now it's 130 and she decided we (me) are going to start replacing the deck boards on our porch. Lumber yard closes at 2pm on Sunday so we rushed down and picked up 40 12 ft deck boards which completes a little over half the deck as the other portion is 14ft boards. Took me a bit to rip the old ones off and get all the old nails and screws out. Called it quits at 9pm. Finished up the rest of it Monday afternoon before work. Had planned on cutting shooting lanes Sunday and Monday but that went out the window! Before Not what I wanted to do after a 75 hour work week Family affair Done for this week. Will finish off the 14ft section next weekend Does it ever end?! [emoji15] lol -

Always work to be done but I'm chipping away at it. This Saturday will be a work day/party for me. My best friend/hunting buddy will be over helping me get the new field tilled up and seeded. Hopefully get another stand up and one other one moved and maybe clear some shooting lanes on others. Big focus will be on the food plot and drinking some beers lol. Wife has a friend of hers coming over also and she's trying to play match maker between her friend and my buddy haha. Guess we will see what happens there! [emoji38]. We will be bbqing and having a nice bonfire and lots of cold ones once the work is done that's all I know! -
I don't use one either. The only time I've ever had a jacket get in the way is with a real heavy winter jacket hunting sub zero temps. I expected it and used the old sock trick. Just cut the foot off a hiking sock just below the ankle and slip it over your forearm to hold any loose or puffy jackets tighter to your arm so it won't get caught. I haven't had to do this in a long time though as today's newer hunting jackets tend to be much tighter fitting than years ago. More clothes now are designed for bow hunters so they design that problem right out of the equation. In a few weeks once you get some time on that new bow you should really toss on whatever camo jackets you will be wearing and practice with them on. Shooting full suited up in your camo will feel much different than being in shorts and a t shirt. I also like shooting with gloves on just because it helps me to keep my form consistent, muscle memory and how the grip feels in your hand each time is a big part of being consistent. Your off to a good start. Just keep up the practice and you'll be confident and ready by oct 1st!

Where can i practice with broadhead ?
Adkhunter1590 replied to OneShotTony913's topic in Bow Hunting
I sure hope you get upstate into the woods and practice with that climber before you attempt it in the dark opening morning or something. Climbing stands are easily the most dangerous in my opinion. Not something you want to learn to use in the dark. You should really climb several different diameter trees to get used to how you need to adjust the straps so that your platform ends up being level when you get high up the tree. And be very sure you have the top and bottom sections of the stand tethered together in case you lose the bottom section as you climb. Trust me, you don't wanna have to figure out how to get down the tree when your bottom platform goes jingling to the bottom of the tree when your 15 ft up. Absolutely use a harness as well. Inexperienced people with climbing stands are at the highest risk in my book for an accident, a harness will be a potential life saver. Good luck this season, just get your preseason practicing in so you can an enjoy a full SAFE season. -
Don't lose any sleep over it man. People screw up stuff every day, life goes on. Unfortunately we live in a world that's full of people who love to jump down the throats of those who make simple mistakes. Personally I think it's how you react to a mistake that sets the tone for how it should be viewed. You fixed it so no biggie. And rob, I would think that goats would count as livestock and mineral for them is legal. I guess I could drop some mineral blocks out in my neighbors cow pasture and hunt the edge lol. Neighbor would prolly love me giving his cows free minerals

He's a nice buck. There's some big bucks in 4B. I've already seen 5 bigger than the one you posted in fields in 4B this year. You'd be surprised at what kind of bucks are in the area. Of course the land that these bucks are on are all locked up with people hunting them. But I know a few people who hunt the area that tell me about the 160s and 170s they are after.
-
Wetter the better is what I've been taught. I was just telling some guys at work a month ago that we are gonna see a lot of big bucks shot this year because it's been so wet and cool plus the mild winter.

Why I shop around..
Adkhunter1590 replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
As I read this I'm currently milling a batch of winter wheat! Runs terrible compared to spring wheat. I'll be filling my truck up with a bunch of WW next week to bring home to plant. -
Can't ever go wrong with leupold. My 10x42 set is a $400 or so leupold. Can't remember the model name off the top of my head. They've been all over the country, beat to hell and still work good. I'd take the one your looking at no question.
-
Good luck man!
-
Which model does he have? There's the original and now they have an updated model that's supposedly worked out a lot of kinks from the first one.
-
Ya man they have some good things going for them. The theft and damage policy is one of a kind for sure. Seems like these guys really want to find their way in a market that's flooded. If their cams truly are made to last and they stand behind their stuff, it will be worth the price to me. I've got a good sized bonus from work coming in this upcoming week....think I'll be placing an order. I sent them an email asking about any discounts if you buy 2,3 or more.
