  1. Ya there's exactly what scared me away from those types of cars. In the VWs the auto tranny needs a service every 40k miles. It's a $500 job! My F150 will be turning over 140k in the next week or two and I've never even checked the fluid in that tranny lol. VW dealer wanted $1500 to do the timing belt on my TDI. That's a every 100k job as well on almost every euro car out there. Oil changes in a TDI will cost you no less than $90 even buying the correct oil online, takes this super special oil, ya know the type they milk from unicorns. All of this is exactly why I bought a used 2014 Honda Civic to run the 35 miles one way to work every day. I can rack up miles and change the oil once every 7k with a $25 jug of oil from napa. I don't abuse it so it should go well over 200k miles with little to no issues. I don't even like driving cars, but it saves me money and miles on my nice big truck.[emoji51]
  2. Good to hear. There's good ones out there. The repair bills for them scare me, and I'm not a lucky guy so I'm always gonna get the one that breaks stuff. My buddy must be like me in that way. Thankfully my TDI was bought back in the whole settlement thing, as I was starting to have some big issues going on. If I had to keep it, I would have been up in the several thousands on just the couple exhaust parts and stuff needed. Not counting the fixing of non essential things like the one back window quit rolling down on me. When I found out it would be bought back I parked it. Only stipulation of the buyback was that it ran into the dealership lot under its own power, couldn't risk running it anymore lol. Every time I turned the key I clenched up wondering what f-ed up noise I'd hear this time haha
  3. Well idk about the rest of ya, but my Wunderground weather app is showing me a pretty good temp drop going into opening weekend. Looks like maybe some rain as well. Seeing the temps dropping for next weekend sure is lifting my spirits. Sure do hate hot weather anytime of year let alone fall. Bring on those 30-40 degree days!
  4. Bimmers are nice. But like every euro car they will drain your wallet on maintenance costs if your not a diy guy. Guy I work with has the same car as you biz. I actually even walked over to it this morning just to make sure it was the same model lol. But anyways, he just had the motor rebuilt, can't remember exact problem but ran a little low on oil and ended up with 4500 bucks worth of work. He bought that car used a few years ago around the time I bought my VW Jetta TDI. Both of us swapped war stories on the regular at work of all the upkeep we had to keep doing to those euros. After dealing with VW and the whole dieselgate fiasco, I won't touch a euro with a 30 ft pole.
  5. My old boss in Kansas was obsessed with those Subaru Bajas. They were neat car/truck hybrids. He would buy up everyone he came across and would part them out and piece them all together to make whole ones lol. Hauled a lot of corn and other crap with them all around Kansas. I seen it mentioned once in here already but, just keep an eye on the oil level in any Subaru. They tend to eat oil a bit and absolutely do not like to be run low. They don't handle being low very well at all. Old boss blew 2 motors himself and his daughter blew up another subie from running it too low on oil. Other than that they are good cars.
  6. I chased the turkeys out of my field a few times over the last couple weeks. I think they got ahold of wheat mostly. But I overseeded that heavy as hell because I kind of expected them to roll in. Crows and geese were picking at it something fierce for a bit there too. On a side note, the apple trees on the south end of my food plot have been just crazy with deer all over them. I need to get a seclusion cage up this week but I don't think they are nibbling on what's growing in the field so far. Apples seem to have their full attention. Caught a pic of my one 6 pointer with a big ol apple in his mouth haha
  7. I store my stuff in Rubbermaid totes in the garage. But I pick through them throughout the year and drag out pieces of camo randomly so it's never air tight or sealed all year. Week before season starts I'll take it all out and wash it all in scent free detergent. Not the expensive deer on a bottle stuff, you can get un scented detergent in regular brands for half the price and way bigger bottles. I hang dry everything outside and then stuff it all into some scent lok stuff sacks I have and back into the tote. These are all outer layers mind you, under layers I keep in the house, finish getting dressed in the garage when I head out to hunt. Spray down with scent free spray and off I go. Usually give myself another spray after getting settled up in the stand. I also swear by those hunters specialties scent wafers. I like the fresh earth ones. Pin one on my pack or a zipper on my pants. I also switch shower soap and deodorant to un scented ones this time of year until after season is over. Don't use any cologne or body sprays either. Don't know if it helps, but I like to think it does.
  8. I put off moving a stand on Sunday hoping this upcoming weekend when I have the whole weekend off would be cooler. So much for that[emoji849]. And on top of that, my wife made me take the big AC out 2 weeks ago when it was getting down into the 40s at night. Guess who tried to tell her we would probably get another heat spell before October and we should just leave it until then, but nooooo it's gotta go. My revenge will be the possibility of going to my buddies camp on lake Champlain instead of sweating all day around the house.
  9. I've been curious about them ever since I first saw them. Some how I always forget to pick up some anytime I go to the bow shop. If ya try them out before I get to, let us know how it goes!
  10. Damn that's awesome. Can I come bear hunt with you? Lol
  11. He's doing it because he has ambitions of running for president in 2020. He's trying to get his name out there and is starting to layout a (false)history of looking like he gives a damn about people. I hope to god we as NYers can educate the rest of the country on who this scumbag really is when the primaries come around in a few more years.
  12. That's all good and dandy. But unfortunately, anyone who's traveled as much as I have knows full well the culture differences between states. Maine is nothing like NY and even more opposite of some southern states. I grew up in a small rural town here in NY and know MANY families who have been using welfare for generations and have absolutely no desire to ever change that. Hell I even work with guys who are on the utility crew (aka floor sweepers) that won't work too many hours otherwise some of their benefits could get cut off. Guys won't marry their baby mamas so the state will keep handing them money, the list goes on and on and on.
  13. Single was my goal back in the day, can't try out all the muffs if your tied down lol. Married with kids now, so only one muff for me these days.
  14. Well...a lot can be said about why the south requires more federal tax dollars. But regardless, welfare, Medicare and all other social services cost us FAR more than trump ever will for security. I'd rather see welfare cut down to 1 year max no exceptions than cut security to our president.
  15. Lol thought almost the same thing. I think I actually said to myself "damn they must wreck a whole mess of cutting blades dragging the ground like that"
  16. They sure do scalp those alfalfa fields when they cut it. I pass a farm everyday to and from work that has 4 fields of it and they might even get a 4th cutting this year off it. It's amazing how fast it comes back with all this rain.
  17. Preferably at least once a day[emoji51]
  18. Well from the pictures I've seen of his golf outings, he's got important people with him the entire time. Looks more like on the move business meeting than it does golf. The guy is a deal maker and likes to shmooze and entertain his marks into submission. Getting people out of a office makes them act differently, he's probably trying to take advantage of that. He's no dummy when it comes to getting what he wants from people. If he was out there just to play and not get shit done, then ya that's not cool. But he's obviously getting stuff done so play on man play on. I also agree with him being the most likely president in recent history to be a target for assassination. Look at the crap going on, how could anyone not agree with that? With that being said, more security is obviously going to go hand in hand with it. So ya it's pretty much a no brainer as to why it's costing so much. If the sore losers would just take defeat like adults like we all did when Obama was elected not once but TWICE, this convo wouldn't even be happening. O and I'm sure the amount of money we will spend on protecting him is ALOT less than what Hillary would have given away to foreign country's or minority's in our cities.
  19. I think I'm farther behind this year than I was last year. Still need to trim up a few stands and get bow hangers in. My bow is ready and I'm shooting once or twice a week. Need to wash all my camo again and get my pack organized. I'll be out there on the 1st regardless of how ready lol
  20. Anything cabelas wooltimate is awesome. I've got the whole setup now with pants and hooded pull over and even a matching wool beanie. Love the outfitter camo pattern too, blends great and is warm as hell. A little on the heavy side but for treestand hunting it can't be beat.
  21. Checked my one cam under the apple trees close to my house this morning real quick. This is where I get pics of the hard horned 6 and velvet 5 pointer. Since I last checked it Sunday, I got 714 pics!! Crazy amount of deer traveling through here. The hard horn 6 is still around but the 5 point didn't stop by the last 3 days.
  22. Deff not the greatest pic but ya'll get the idea.
  23. I have a euro deer skull tat on my right arm. It's pretty big, takes up my entire upper arm. There's some tribal stuff on both sides of the skull that has my wife initials embedded into the design and then my sons name and his birthdate is inked in between the rack of the buck. I've got two other ones but not hunting related. Need to get my 2nd sons name and birthday inked soon, maybe over the winter. Would like to tie his name into another hunting theme tat.
