Assembly gun bill
crappyice replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Don't be so naive to blame hunters who did not support guns they do not own...you/we live in a state run by liberal dems. We gun owners, regardless of type, have a little voice and even less power in this state. This may piss you off like it does me but that is a reality. I can't imagine living a the northern and western(I'm in westchester-20 min from city) part of the state where I assume hunting and firearms are more prevalent and dealing with new legislation that is written for "city-folk." What a blow to the 2nd amendment...Christ, it was #2 on the priority of the founding fathers! Unreal. -

I'm sure those sheds are priceless to the owner/finder. Is there a monetary value or even a market for sheds? Just curious...

Boycott hunting license purchases
crappyice replied to Jmac491's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Good idea...as a lifetime license holder I'll have all the room I want..lol -
Found my first one today! Had a little dilemma...do I show my kids to get them excited that the season is started or keep it to hide when they come for some instant gratification? I decided to show them when I got home. I'd rather them have a genuine experience but I'll see if that's a mistake if and when frustration sets in!

Tx...maybe we'll take a drive this weekend. Last year I fond my first fork horn and then one week later he wanted to go. I Couldn't believe he found it by himself. So cool.

Any sign of bucks dropping horns yet in westchester/Putnam? My 8 year old is all over me to take him since he found his first one last year.

My buddy used nocturnal(blue light) this season and was not overly impressed. Most shots he took were during the bright part of the day but the light never really seemed to be on. It was tough to tell if they were on...seemed like they didn't turn on but were just really faint in the day light. I'm sure they would be helpful at last/first light but no advantage during the day

How many pounds of meat? How long will it keep if not eaten immediately! lol

Any recipe for ground venison headed for a jerky gun? I don't own a dehydrated so I plan on doing any cooking on a low oven temp or maybe will we up the smoker.

While replies here will be helpful to your questions, if possible try it hook up with someone who hunts. For one, it makes the hunting experience social so even if you see little action, you are creating experiences and memories that make your time worth it even if you aren't successful harvesting any game. Hang or at gun shops/bowshops and talk to the locals who frequent those establishments. While many will withhold info about their "honey holes" the will be more than apply to talk shop.

Anyone ever try to actually smoke the venison pulled pork like you would do with pork butt? I am thinking it would dry out too much but curious as to how the wood smoke flavor would work with the venison

So, I fleshed and bucked a deer hide. I put the hide in a solution of 10 gallons of water to 4oz of KOH. It's been sitting for four days and the hair is slipping quite easily. I figured I would try the graining process. Regardless of how hard I scrape, I don't feel I am getting the grain. Can I/should I re-soak in the bucking solution for a few more days? One thing that is concerning me is the temperature. It has been near freezing and a thin layer of ice formed on the bucking solution. I read that cold temps slow down the bucking process. Any thoughts are appreciated. Fyi...I am using Matt Richards book Deerskin into Buckskins as my guide.
