I think baiting bear 9 days before the season was another one of those little known rules, just like being able to go on unposted private land in that other thread. Got to say that I'll give it to hunters for finding every darned loophole imaginable around the rules to make things easier for themselves! LOL Did those bear hunters make sure they got rid of every scrap of donuts and other food they put out for bears 8 days before the season opened?? I sort of doubt it. There are a number of places in Canada where bears are hunted by spot and stalk or with dogs and baiting is not used.

What I find funny here is that the guy took the bones to work to x-ray them I guess he must work as an x-ray tech or something, but I wonder if our health insurance plans would pay to have our deer bones x-rayed?? I sort of doubt it. LOL

Yes, I always did. Like I said, most outfitters will have a target set up somewhere and will point you to it. I just never came across one who insisted that the hunter actually go check his weapon out. To me outfitters just seemed very uncaring about it.
-
I don't know if I would believe that most outfitters do that. I never bowhunted with an outfitter, but I did gun hunt with a number of them, be it 15 to 20 plus years ago now. I think they could have cared less if my gun was on or not. Some have a target set up, but it's only there if the client want to check out his gun. Generally they want you to pay them BEFORE they take you hunting, so they surely won't lose any sleep over you missing an animal they might put you on. They got their money the rest is up to you. It's just business to them. Maybe I should reword that, most "reputable" outfitter/guides have a huge interest in there clients and the game that is being hunted. They want the clients to score and generate repeat business and they don't want the reputation of being wounded animal chasers(yes, it happens) If you hunted with an outfitter that was only concerned about getting his money, then you need to ungrade your quality of outfitter...........................I think I would feel screwed before my hunt even started. FDXX75 Well, I don't know what could be considered reputable or not with outfitters, but it's not like the outfitters I used could not put their hunters onto some game because they surely could. I just never noticed any of them really caring whether ones gun was sighted in or not or felt overly bad if one didn't get their animal. Their general objective is to put the hunter in a position for a decent shot with the rest being up to the hunter, which would include having the hunter responsible for his weapons accuracy.

Hey that might actually be a good way to get our wives or girlfriends to give us a little more affection. Maybe they will feel sorry for us when they see the blow up doll and realize that we maybe aren't getting enough of something? LOL We could keep dreaming I guess.

Well yeah, I don't want them to become alcoholics, smokers, mass murderers using guns either. I am glad that there are laws limiting and restricting some of this stuff too. I think trampolines are a broken neck waiting to happen and don't own a pool and wouldn't leave my kid unsupervised at a place that did have one. I guess I am a big nitpicker then, but I rather be safe than sorry. -
I guess if you don't read many of my posts you haven't realized that I like to put some humor into many of my posts and take things way LESS seriously than many of the others here. That is all I tried to do here. Surely not making it a political thread, only making fun of them.

I believe it can be also. So who actually wants their kids to start using pot? And what are some of the reasons that we don't want them to start?? Just think about it for a few minutes and one can see that nothing good can come out of it. -
new york to tax bikes?
steve863 replied to G-Man's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The idea behind this is a reaction to those cyclists within the city (namely Manhattan) who do not and will not obey the rules of the road. It is a problem. If you have ever driven in Manhattan you would realize this. The NYPD does issue summons to cyclists who do not obey the traffic laws. While the proposed law is outrageous, in the end it will be tailored to those who cycle on Public Streets. Then give those people summonses. I don't think a kid who may only ride on a sidewalk or other recreational cyclists should need to be paying extra dollars to get bicycles registered. How many people have bicycles run over and killed? I can't imagine there were too many. Not even a fraction of how many cars or guns have killed although I do understand that reckless riders can injure people. I think most bicycle deaths involve the person riding it. So if the riders themselves aren't careful, they are the ones who will probably be suffering the most from their recklessness. -
This I surely WOULD believe!!

That sure ain't good enough for me! I think when I no longer am able to process them myself is when I give up hunting completely.

Fair enough. At least the left-wing turkeys heads just bobble, be it to the left. The right-wing turkeys also have a weird yelp, which sounds something like " the sky is falling", "the sky is falling". Probably doesn't help bring the real turkeys in.

Instead of spending money to buy one, maybe we should just dress up a few of the forum members here in feathers and their nodding in agreement with the right-wing political threads of late would give us the bobblehead motion. Just a thought. LOL

You guys beat me to this one. Exactly what I was trying to say on the other thread. Both sides of the aisle are just offering lip service to this and look the other way at every opportunity. If they would have enforced the existing employment laws, the problem would not have gotten to where it is today. Only in Texas do you get to see such BS. One can't hire illegals via an established business, but you CAN hire them to mow your lawn or clean your toilet! So how will this stop illegals from coming in and finding ANY work? The reality is that this country likes the cheap labor illegals provide and isn't willing to get rid of it. Case closed. -
Aren't we all Americans?
steve863 replied to Caveman's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/charts Here's a spending chart of recent years. Republicans were in the white house for 8 years before Obama and had control of both houses for 6 of those years. Do we see government spending go down in any of those years??? Both sides are equally guilty. The left wastes on the welfare side while the right wastes money on the war machine. Both sides have their own ways of brainwashing the masses to think the way they want you to think. -
I have to try this one of these days. I have been told that it tastes pretty good. It sure works on chicken and veal so I can't imagine it wouldn't on venison.
-
Really good post! That has always been my main issue with hunters and gun owners. Their inability to look at things from the other side. Without doing so we will most certainly end up on the losing end.

steve863 replied to Caveman's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Maybe some should stop complaining about liberals, government, etc. and actually go out and make your OWN American dream happen. If you only sit in front of your computers bitching about everything under the sun it surely won't happen! LOL As much as some complain about liberals sponging the system, those on the other end of the political spectrum aren't doing jack $#!+ to advance themselves in any way either. That is why I always say that those on the far left and far right honestly deserve each other. They are both cut from the same mold. They only bitch and do nothing to better themselves. -
I am unaware of any new ranges in Nassau county. Where is this supposed to be located? Is it an outdoor range where high-powered rifle would be permitted? I sure miss that old town of Huntington range that closed a few years ago!

new york to tax bikes?
steve863 replied to G-Man's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
A safety inspection is also needed?? Exactly who will be inspecting all these bikes? I can guarantee anyone that this will never pass. A parent buys a little kid a usable bike at a garage sale for $10 and then he has to get it inspected (which would surely cost money) and then pay a $25 registration fee? This law will get ZERO compliance. -

steve863 replied to G-Man's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have a hard time visualizing a bicycle registration. Exactly how will it be enforced? Will cops be stopping every adult and kid on a bike on neighborhood streets and parks to check if it is registered? Just wait until a cop doesn't get to a serious crime scene in time because he was issuing an 8 year old a summons. Unlike motorized vehicles bikes don't wear down highways or pollute the environment. Citizens should be encouraged to use bicycles where practical and not discouraged. Never mind the health benefits one could get by riding one. I think many hiking trails in NYS are actually maintained by private organization and volunteers. I don't think the DEC spends a great deal on trails in comparison to most things they need to handle. -
I guess the question could be asked why would the old geezers doctor be worried about his sperm count? Unless he is Hugh Hefner and has like a 24 year old wife who wants to get pregnant, I think most old timers wouldn't care one way or the other about their sperm counts.

There are certainly many other hunters here with way more knowledge than me about bows, but I have a 1990 bow that still has the same string on it since the mid 90's. Surely don't do much shooting with it either, but it still hasn't given up yet. The biggest word of advice I could give you is to START practicing if you intend to go to Montana to hunt elk. Going on a trip like that with little practice will more than likely end up in disappointment.

Maybe he is just too busy with his proctology practice?
