I'm late to this reply but here is my 2 cents. This place is a zoo, you will see there Cadillacs from NYC and The Orange Army from Manhattan...lol. Normally I stay away during season and only go there at night for small game furbearers during respective season. Lots of dog walkers and bikers during the day. Walks and fresh air? Nice area. For hunting? Not so much...

I was thinking about getting one, not for speed but for scouting, spotting wildlife (turkey, deer) and maybe push them to your self while you hunt. Not sure about legality and all but my first will be a scouting drone... Thanks for sharing

Where did you get the little one?

Birds which leads me to pointers and such, waterfowl which means retrievers, small game so I guess beagles or coonhounds. Is there a superhero dog that does all that and more like deer tracking? Or is it all in training? At the end of the day if I pick one dog for one game species I will end up buying a farm and have 7 of them :-) What is your dog good at? Can it be trained at something else that breeders/nature didn't intent?

OK, let me see some pics of your four legged hunting partner. Recently changed jobs and get to spend more time working from home (which is great). So was thinking whether this is the time to pull the trigger since I will have more time for the "kid" and it will force me to get out there more often Our family is familiar with dogs, Junior in NC has a nice mix of Lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback. Wife got 2 Afgans in the past (don't ask me why), GrandPa got Weimeraner (I loved that creature), etc... So, now looking for a hunting dog naturally, focusing on GCP, Vizla, Weimeraner, Brittany. Leaning towards female...If you know anyone or hear anything let me know please. In the meantime show off your friend :-) Say hello to Louie :-) He visits 2-3 times a year...

I think there is no contest, just look at the sales of AK-47 all over the world, cheap and reliable... can't beat that. Personally, I like our AR-15 platform, not too shabby either and then close behind any bolt action 30-06, just my personal opinion. Law is kinda vague on this though, some states have no minimum age for long guns but federal laws under GCA says 18 for long and 21 for hand guns. As we know the state can put more restrictions but not less, so to be safe I would use ATF guidelines https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/does-customer-have-be-certain-age-buy-firearms-or-ammunition-licensee This for purchase from FFL only mind you, private sale of long guns are not federally regulated (as far as I'm aware)

Technically private sale of a long gun doesn't require NICS (not yet at least), but then again if you want to teach the kid what's right then FFL is the way. If he just became of age then probably will pass the check with no issues. On one hand you will have legal docs of transfer (shall this gun become a liability) on the other, Uncle Sam doesn't need to know, this is still fully legal. Your call....
