I encountered one during the may turkey season.Did everything you said,Waved my arms,Yelled at it ect. It just stood there staring at me for what seemed like an hour.He didnt seem the least bit scared.I finally threw a big stick at him,And only then did trot away.

Bear and its looks fresh.

That sounds like a good day afield.Saturday was dead for me ,Mosquitos and squirrels were the only living thing I saw.One bright spot was a huge pile of bear scat near my ladder stand.

SteveNY,Funny you should mention that,several years ago I was sitting in my stand from sun up to about noon,with out seeing a single living thing ,When a nice bear came strolling through,As I was about to fire,My cell phone goes off.The bear pauses for a moment on full alert.long story short,the phone stops ringing in my pocket,the bear continues walking and I drop it.Turns out,the call was a wrong number!.I have the picture and story in the bear section.

If you look at the lower right side you see what remains of the husk after the animal devours it.Just leaves a thin brown cob. -

I have the same pine tree in front of my house,A squirrel is hoarding them in that spot.They eat them the same way we eat corn on the cob.They sit on a branch outside my bedroom window and eat them,sounds like someone sand papering a 2x4 and then leave the husk behind. -
Nice Mulie!! I know the area well.My wife and I did a pack trip with an outfitter in July of1998,Bridger National Forest.What a great area.We came upon a skull and rack of a poached Elk hanging from a tree.The outfitter took it down and turned it over to the local Fish and Wildlife.If I can dig up the picture,I'll post it.

John,they must cross the road to my side because we've taken 3 off the property in the last 10 years and I arrowed a 4th that I could not recover. -
A cold winter usually keeps them dormant,However from what I've read snow actually protects them.You would think a cold snowy winter would kill most of them.

Scouted out my property sunday,trimmed some shooting lanes,set out a camera,etc.Did'nt see much sign,But saw a ton of deer out in the open fields in the middle of the afternoon in broad daylight,With out a care in the world.Thats the problem I find during the bow season,I see nothing during the day because their all out in the open well before sunset.It;s not until the rut kicks in that I see movement deep in the woods.

I know it sounds weird,But I do all my pre-season Suffolk scouting wearing my chest waders I use for surf casting.It keeps me protected up to my arm pits.I also wear long sleeve t-shirt with rubber gloves.Yes,I must appear like a seriel killer if anyone see's me in the woods,But Lyme disease scares the hell out me.

There a lot of fun to hunt,But reality sets in when you are standing over one that weights 700 lbs and now you have to pack it out.Trust me I know.

It seems playing golf in the off season is a good way to do some scouting,While playing golf in the Bronx today,Split rock GC,This guy,along with 3 young jakes strolls by.And they all had that Bronx attitude,i.e. "whata you lookin at".

NFA-ADK hit the nail on the head,Water.It takes thousands of gallons of water to sink one well.Where is the water coming from,Local ponds?,The delaware river?Without water theres no well.

That was a baby,We saw the mother drag the fawn out of the reeds along the water.We backed off after the picture and let him enjoy his lunch.

While hitting the links out east in Great river,We saw something strange along the fairway near the tree line.Upon closer look,It was a small fox dinning on a fawn.He lets us get to within 10 feet of him with a look on his face like,"Back off,its mine".
