You have to pay for your dmp tags unless you bought your lifetime licence before 2009. There is an actual date i read it in the syllabus. I was doing the math the other day for my lifetime and I think I am down to 100 dollars a year for my licence!! Not terrible best part is it keeps getting cheaper every year!
-
Totally forgot about the second round of tags in November! Always something to watch for although they never give them out in my unit probably why I forgot about them!!

Almost ( might still get ) Got In Trouble
biggamefish replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I hear ya ADK, I have put some leather miles up there also. I have seen some nice deer there never got any shots only took one doe during bow season awhile back. I used to do a lot of scouting up there when I was grouse hunting before the bow season started on the 15th. -
STONE How do you get 3 doe tags? Is someone writing one over to you?

I would say that you will probably have company in that spot in partridge run now that it was shared publicly. There are alot of people that cruse this site without out signing on. -
ADK put a bell on the powerwheels or some sort of squeeze horn. Might keep the beers away and drive you nuts. LOL

I have looked into this a little more and a buddy showed me that being a land owner you don't get a specail land owner permit. It just puts you at the head of the pack for your dmp selection. This is from the link that LI outdorsmen provided. Order of Selection Landowners and Disabled Veterans NYS Residents and Nonresidents with 3 or more preference points. Residents with 2 preference points. Residents with 1 preference points. Residents with 0 preference points. Non-Residents with 2 preference points. Non-Residents with 1 preference points. Non-Residents with 0 preference points.

Once you start you won't stop. Been shooting trad for 13+ years now and wouldn't go any other way. it is addicting to say the least. I shoot a striker fastback 50@29". Good luck with your endeavors.
-
Thanks g-man, I currently have 3 preference points and didn't want to loose them. I am also in the process of buying land and can get the landowner tag if need be. A good option but I don't know if I need all the tags. I do like to eat though!! HAHA

If you have enough land for a landowners permit can you still get a dmp tag with preference points?
-
Its much easier not to use any sights at all! That way you can always see your target. LOL

What are you using for your finish?

If you are comfortable shooting a heavier bow I wouldn't go much over 50lbs. There really isn't a need for it and if you over bow you will start bad habits. With a sharp broadhead and a really well tuned bow you will be able to shoot anything in north america. I shot a 43 pound recurve for 5 or 6 years and had no problem getting penatration, I did see some deflection in the arrow but nothing to worry about on deer. I only stepped up to 50 pound to flatten out my trajectory. You will see a big difference in that with more weight. As for arrows on a bow you can set them up so many ways. Heavy spines with heavy weight up front to weaken them or go light etc. I shot 650 grn arrows out of my 43 pound recurve and now I shoot 630 grn arrows out of my 50lb bow.
-
Come on now thats not heavy!! I am shooting a 175grn tigershark head with a 100 grn brass insert on 32" Gold Tip trads. LOL it like throwing a telephone pole down range!! It sure does quite the bow down though!! I will always go heavier with my arrows, always have had better penetration with weight than speed! They work though, The Broadhead sliced the rib clean off! Two blade fixed head and was still shaving sharp when I took it out of the deer.

Yeah a deers organs seem to be the same size

Anything is possible for sure. Deer are amazing animals with an incredible fight for life! I only asked because it baffles me how a deer would live through a one lung hit where you actually hit the one lung and not graze it.

JMG so if you were out there alone and could NEVER get medical help you think you would have lived?

Well I was in the STAND and NOT in the city today. Had some thing come in at dark looked like a black fox. To big to be a fisher but way to dark to be a regular colored coyote. It might have been a small black coyote -
