Over the weekend hunting camp got a bear and I was the one to finish the bear off. I got to keep the head. That being said I got it home and skinned the head. I am going to boil the head down so I have the skull. First question is when boiling how do you get the brain out? Second question is is there an easy way to get the crap off the skin of the head. I have tanned skins before and I am going to self tan what is left of the skin on the skull. Just wondering if there is an easy way.

No big buck influence days are gone with the wind. I agree we need to calm down and get back to the good days of hunting and having a good time not lets prove to everybody that I can get a bigger deer.

Doc I think you said it well when you said people think these deer are theres. I find it hard to think other wise when someone takes a stand like this. Like I said before 308 he has never lost a deer that he knows of. I have been hunting for 15 years now and every deer I have shot at weather a bow or a gun I know what I shot at and if I hit it. That is being a responsible hunter. I have records of all my hunts misses hits and squirrels that I tried to get with my sling shot etc.

I hope! I have the rest of the week off for some quality bowhunting time. I hope I can connect in the next couple of days. This seems to be the time that I always see th deer running around. Nyantler I agree with you IF you want to wait it out and take a big antlered deer than that is your choice. It just shouldn't be pushed on you if you don't want it to be that way. Again it should be YOUR OWN CHOICE to take what ever you want. I think alot of people just don't wait for the opportunity to take a bigger deer. Which I think is fine if they want to do it that way.

See I hold you with alot of respect for saying that. Most people would have enough nuts to say that. You know your limitations and that my friend makes you a better hunter.

I say this every year there are big deer in every area of the state. 100 plus inchers I live in the capital region and high pressure if the name of the game around here yet I see the big deer every year. I Don't always get a shot at them but if you put your time and efforts in they are there. But like steve863 says it shouldn't be about antlers it should be about hunting and doing something you enjoy. LIke I said every deer is a trophy to me. Some of those older does are just as smart if not smarter than the bucks. If you get a deer you are lucky and should take pride in it.

Amen to that. But if you said you where hunting it would be an dec issue and not a police issue at least!!! Trespassing is a law and people break it if a cop sas he can't do anything about it report him. He is a public offical and he works for you. He has to do something about it!

Yes you can I have taken deer with gun wounds and bow wounds that were not fatal. You have to cut that meat out but the rest of the deer is fine. It is just like when you cut yourself you might get an infection but it doesn't hurt the rest of the meat.

I have one 9 pointer that is somewhere in the 120 to 130 range got him with a gun. I have a 10 point that I have no clue what he scores but I would guess he is over 100. I would like to get a couple of my eights measured I would think one of them is over 100. I love the little basket racks though and every deer is a trophy. Doe or buck.

Never lost a deer that you know of. That right there is a broad statement. Shouldn't you know every shot you take specially with a gun? Guns bows crossbows muzzelloader hunting have all lost deer it sucks. The difference is when it happens people have to take every means possible to find the deer. Some of the stories on her do seem like they are oh well lost another one whatever but more of the majority sound like they put in the effort to find them. Your statement was a dink of a statement but you are entitled to your opinion.

Huh that is strange I hunt 4j over by colonie and there hasn't been any deer moving. I found my first scrape the other day and it wasn't much bigger than two pie plates.

I agree I didn't walk with one in the chamber. I bought the gun used and brought it to the club and shot it. Worked fine but I never put more than one shell in thereto shoot

Jewel weed works but I find it is only a help in the begining stages of the ivy.

We really should see a pickup of sighting when gun starts. That is if we have a few of them in the state. Should be interesting.

I have a 99f that when I put a round in the chamber I can not put the safety on. Is this a typical problem with this gun or how it was manufactured? The gun shoots great and very accurate it feeds rounds fine into and out of the gun. The safety will only go on when the gun is empty of all bullets. I thought it was kind of strange any help or knowledge would be a great help.

He can be hard to watch but he just does it his way and that my frind is the hard way. I give him alot of credit he just keeps plugging along. Good for him.

If your heart was to chewy then you over cooked it. Best way is pan searing with garlic and butter.

Hey there I too am very allergic to the ivy. Luckly in Ny up in albany we only have to worry about poison ivy and not oak it doesn't come this far north. Anywho Depending on where it is I have used both alchol and bleach to kill it on my hands. (NOT RECOMMENDED) leaves scars sometimes but I am ion it so much if I got the steriods everytime I would be a body builder and have little n**s (j/K). If it is a small area i use this method open it up and wash it then while it is still open I pour rubbing alcohol on it or the bleach. It stings like a mother but it drys it right out. Don't do this if it is a huge spot. There is also a gold bond medicated itch cream that is a small tube and expensive but takes the itch away. The other thing I hae to offer it TECHNU it is in the CVS's around me it is a pretreatment that work up to 12 hours after you have gotten into the posion ivy\oak. the directions are on the bottle for use on that and that stuff does work and work good. I use it whenever I think I have gotten into it and I have cut my ivy down in half.

I dated someone from Mich and when she was here she thought that they were just cartoons and not real. She said they didn't have them out there. I thought it was funny.

Typically a gut shot deer will lay down not to far after you shot it. I have done it before and I know guys that have done it to and they usually find them dead within 200 yards if they don't push them. Like everybody said give him some time.
