  1. Carry a pair of pruning shears and some gallon zip lock bags. Back when teaching tying and doing some for shops, plenty of road kill ended up in my material bins. Borax soap re applied several times rubbed into the skin acts a decent alternative for preserving skins.
  2. I got a 458 win mag in classifieds thats still for sale. But honest I don't think you need anymore then 308; and I have a love affair with 300 magnums and have owned several and shot many deer sized game with them; its not required. Need to fix feed issue. I rack a box full through my gun that I'm going to hunt with to make sure everyone feeds correct for the ammo. Most would think that overkill but I like to remove any variables. Just a habit now when getting ready for a trip and now do for all hunting centerfire guns. Gun feeding issue may need some more thought but most models have trends in what needs tweaking.
  3. Learn from the experience and that makes you a better hunter. I've shot a fair number of game animals; handful of wounded and lost, and handful of clean misses. I can still remember them, for me they don't go away; but tried to learn something from both those mess ups and from the good shots too. Many don't see a deer with in 40yds of where it was standing don't do crap to find them and just look to shoot another one. You did good in looking, sometimes best effort is all you can do.
  4. Enjoy the posts as always, a little success boosts the spirits of all; good stuff.
  5. They have some local specific regs where there is a lot of traffic, especially along Rt 73 in/out of Keene Valley; a few other popular trailheads. They are marked, its mostly popular hiking spots that are being targeted. But you won't have any issues by Caroga Lake area and up along RT10 or 29A Hunted in Shaker Mnt Wild Forest.....had a buddy with a cabin near the golf course in town.
  6. +1 That's a great deer moog. Be worth the 20 bucks to have a proper tooth aging done and get a real age, not just a tooth wear estimate.
  7. Stomach ain't exactly shit. I have seen the same but with specific animals at a specific time of year stomach contents being consumed. But this story is funny. South African have a game of distance spitting hard Impala pellets; about size of average NY doe. Called Bokdrol Spoeg; they have this at county fair type get togethers. So I'm going to do this and they are so petrified, its like putting a rock in your mouth. So there we are 2 SA PH's and me in the yard spittin' turds, and 2 other hunters show up o join in......they had a few. And the one guy takes a whole handful of jelly beans and before we know it, hes munching down on these and washing them down with a beer. Like a bowl full of tiny milk duds. I never laughed so hard in all my life in a hunting camp.
  8. 27 to go after this post and about an hour.... I'm out to hunt something, good luck on the quest.
  9. Adding a post for the quest. But go for something better then crappy.
  10. Kind of an interesting thought that a handful of lead bullets will contaminate ground water to a significant degree. Around here are the lead deposits close enough to surface they were hand dug in Revolutionary War times to supply US armory.

    Why

No plans, but TF posted a pic of a roast beef on weck' that looked awesome and could use one.
  12. Dinsdale

    Why

You want me to stop by? It'd be done by the time you were home from work. LOL
  13. Michigan has banned bait for the lower portion. Other states all have proposals on the table in one form or another between bait and urine bans.
  14. Have fun with a quality big bore without breaking the bank.....thinning out the safe for a few things I'm not using in near future. Whitworth; Zastava built gun and imported by Interarms. (Same action and manufacturer as Remington 798) mid 80's gun. Blueing and metal is in good shape. There are a few stock dings; I'm second owner. Original whitworth recoil pad. 13 5/8" trigger to pad. Holds 3 in magazine; I've never tried "snapping" the extractor over one in chamber. Trigger bow release. 8 1/4 lbs on my scale for just rifle. I put a couple boxes through it, and prior owner didn't shoot it much either. Was going to re chamber to Lott, but found another ready to go. $725 plus shipping to FFL. Postal money order. Also have used RCBS 3 pc die set and a few boxes of factory ammo available to buyer at additional cost.
  15. That sucks. Time for some law enforcement to be involved. Honest this is why I have never bought a place anywhere; just no real security anywhere.
  16. Tell them you are researching a big product fraud case for the firm..... It is a Mathews and I thought it was a guaranteed deer magnet; and its let you down. Got a text from landowner; not coming up from City today.....I get to take a walk on new land tonight, and the wind is slowing a bit from the gusts. Out the door, good luck all.
  17. I'll buy Biz one of those fancy Friday beers if he gives us a shot of the bow in the frame of that picture, this is live from the stand after all. Wonder how that'd go over on the train commute? LOL
  18. They are giving him that nice shooting rail to rest his rifle on..... Need to aim low on those shots too.
  19. Cut up a tree and moved the wood today before the rains come again....in the low 80's here. You are a better man than I. But thanks for posting pics, enjoy checking this thread.
  20. Sounds like that could lead to an accidental discharge.
  21. Helped a guy out with a heirloom gun and fixing his broken stock. Took it out of the stock what was comfortable to assume first time ever. Had 2-3 shotglass full of oil soaked hemlock needles stuffed into the action from neglect; wouldn't cycle and acted as single shot for many years. Not a problem since.
  22. I want to see video of a range session of the 4 lb 12 ga and slugs. I'll even pay for a box of slugs.
  23. Un vented propane puts out more more moisture than you'd think. Not too bad as winter air is dry, but I wouldn't upsize too much. Usually on manufacturers web site there will be a guide to sizing or similar often in the installation guide/instructions based on volume. Hung a few similar in jobs here and there with good results; small workshop, potting shed/greenhouse/3 season room. I like the no power requirement if service is down.
