  1. Chased out of stand by hay fever......yikes I don't know whats in this field but I cant even see. Forgot pills so maybe later in week. I don't need any more sensitive nose. Good luck to all those out and congrats on those that connected.
  2. Have a friend that collects NY outdoors memorabilia; these buttons, posted signs from state, trail markers etc. He has complete set of the buttons; those early ones in the teens can command a decent price.
  3. Lots of waterproof cover options.... Badlands, cabelas brand, gregory, mystery ranch, camelback........ Example; https://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=2775498&type=product&WT.z_btnclk=YMAL-2775498&WT.z_pg_ref=prd2227395
  4. +1 on Dr Bronners.....not cheap but easy to rinse and makes for the best camping soap too.
  5. Fitting chart by brand and model; http://mpcsports.com/Limbsaver%20Sizing%20Chart.pdf
  6. You were road hunting for Bigfoot and then the deer jumped out, or did trying to shoot Bigfoot jam the gun? I don't follow.....what happened to Bigfoot in this?
  7. Good on ya' for wanting to make a change. Thats a good price range to look for glass, try a bunch in hand. I struggle with the small compacts and favor 8x30 or 8x42. 10x50 a bit big for me unless I'm birding or looking at distance. May want to check out a harness too, although I like slung under one shoulder to keep them out of the way for hunting with a long gun.
  8. I find this to be very common on state land I have been on and have exchanged heated words with those doing so. Enough now is why my deer hunting has just about come to an end, I have no interest anymore in being out there with idiots.
  9. https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2017-Jun/CBP Form 4457_0.pdf Form required, can fill out and print.
  10. Technically you need a receipt for purchase or Customs Form #4457 (thats not just guns but can list anything of value purchased in the US and brought back into the country like a scope); You can get a 4457 stamped at any Customs office before your trip (I use airports with any international flight) you show up with firearm and they stamp form for you. Usually you have to call and make sure of a time window someone is in office at smaller airports/borders; but big crossings like Peace Bridge/Buffalo or say JFK, you can get one while you wait. You can pre print that 4457 all filled out before hand also when getting it stamped. I laminate mine and have a stack of them as other countries use them as a gun permit for US residents as they state "registration" on them. LOL
  11. I used a Ulu type blade for fleshing, I find it easier than a scraping type blade like trappers use. But thats just me. I have also used a professional fleshing machine like taxidermists use and they are awesome, but one needs some practice (I did a steer hide before sending it out for tan) You could also look at YT for videos on using pressure washer for fleshing, I did another cow hide like that and is pretty easy to take off misc fat/sinew/meat......but I never did a deer with it. I made wood frames and pinned the edges for drying and made a wood stretcher for tube skinned coon and beaver. Tried to avoid metal for no rust stains. I used commercial tans as in my post. I'm not old school enough to be trying to salvage brains and sinew out of a carcass. Salt is your friend, it kills bacteria and you can't use too much on a fresh hide.
  12. Only done hair on, but the couple piece I have done came out great. Doesn't really smell, but can be labor intensive especially shaving hide. Found this to be a good page of info with a few tips; https://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/Typical-Scenario-for-Tanning-a-Hide-W52.aspx Done both the Tannium and Lutan; https://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/Hide-Tanning-W48.aspx The tannium for a piece of heavy hide of Cape Buffalo and a Beaver, it comes out with a blue tint thats good for dark hides/dark furs. The Lutan for a couple other hides, coon, deer. I mixed just enough chemicals for the job in plastic tubs and dishwashing type pans. Used more oil to break skin then I expected. Bought clean salt from feed supply store.
  13. More self taught folks then you'd think, so don't be bashful. You'll get some good advice too; ^^^see philoshops' post above
  14. I've been doing this about 30 years......when I started I had a neighbor that never did anything but buy corn to pour in a spot his entire hunting career from post WW2 to the 90's. And everyone of his buddies did the same including at the hunting shack in the ADK's. Fun to think about the good ol' days; but guys have been piling apples and corn for longer than just recent when Tractor Supply came to town. I'm not inclined and why I was never much interested in his camp.
  15. Factory 8X57 Mauser (8mm Mauser) ammunition. Sellier & Bellot 196gr The "JS" designates a .323 bore which just anything post WW1 will be other than a few drillings maybe (the other bore was .318) This is European loaded to a hotter standard than US domestic production like Remington Corelocks and takes fuller advantage of the ballistics. 11 new 20 round boxes and one partial including brass 7 rounds. $120 cash for all; FTF , I'm in N. Dutchess https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/sellier-amp-bellot-8mm-mauser-8x57-js-196-grain-spce-20-rounds?a=1583557
  16. Did you ever hang out on ADK High Peaks forum or the other ADK forum a few years ago? There was a dude posted this same stupid thread every couple weeks, maybe even the same guy as this one. There was some funny stuff posted in reply.
  17. There was a Red Deer roaming around N. Dutchess maybe 10 years ago during fall. DEC said go ahead and shoot it if seen, and like the idiots they were guys where I was hunting let it go. They are damn good table fare.
  18. Sorry about your taco..... Hope insurance covers the loss.
  19. Just so I get the right thing..... This the can of maze I need?
  20. Sucks so close to season and hope long term is good. I have pushed a few things faster then I should have and have always regretted it. Loooong deer season in NY and hope you can get in the game.
  21. Honestly I feel there are more folks than you think that just "aim for the middle of the big part". LOL This would be good for them. SMH.
  22. Same guy online who sold me the Bills Super Bowl tickets sold me Sabres Stanley Cup tickets too. Expecting big things this season.
