  1. Same here.....I don't think adults in the daytime like coming up my driveway. LOL
  2. That's when you push the button on your EPIRB and someone can come and dig you out.
  3. I know a few long time local taxidermists who are impressed at the size of bucks being taken and number. I've never really seen the big deal; shooting a one side fork horn with a 1" nub brow tine qualifies for 3 on one side. I hunt AR areas that have always been tough hunting, deer never have come easy and DMP's were party permits or limited(or non existent) for 30 years.
  4. Trijicon doesn't require any batteries. The Aimpoints I'm using run 50,000 hrs....thats over 5 1/2 years of continuous operation. Why its a military issued product. A Trijicon illuminated reticle is both worlds, a very high quality standard optic with option of battery free operation. For the non magnified quick acquisition red dots......a conventional scope such as the Leupold isn't even close for eye relief. You'd have to mount scout style to approach the flexibility of mounting .
  5. Good to hear; ran into birds daily, but that was a few years ago when I was there, and things can change. Little ski area just outside village of Cloudcroft, but the winter weather pattern generally doesn't give them snow in big amounts. Its not snow capped rocky peaks and mountain vistas; but I like that rolling pine country and high desert of that region. Looked into buying property there, but not enough work in area for me.
  6. Congrats on a fine bull! Love that unit/area and it produces some terrific elk like yours; and glad you find altitude not an issue and found some success. Depending on work I may do a turkey hunt there next year.....see any birds?
  7. ^^^^those three posts are funniest on here; maybe ever.
  8. Short answer yes, exposed surfaces lead to some dry layer, how much depends on time. More surface, more loss. Thats the reason 30 day old aged steaks cost more than standard hung animals; cutting loss and meat shrinkage due to moisture loss reduce yield.
  9. I think a red dot forward would eliminate issues thats like 6" eye relief on that set up of mine. I run the H-1 like a semi scout, on the forward ring. LOL......no about an hour south of Albany , have never been married, or had any kids.
  10. Couple snap caps and some dry fire practice is a good way to help out a flinch.(and cheap!) Good training for a sharp reload and follow up too. Standing bench for sighting in like used for big recoiling rifles helps get rid of those issues too. I'm not big and standing helps suck up recoil and eliminate stock creep.
  11. This is a Aimpoint 9000 short tube version on a Savage 220 slug gun using a one piece EGW rail, Aimpoints factory supplied rings. As it is would be about 1 1/2" farther forward than a typical 3-9 scope.(Aimpoint is zero magnification just a adjustable 2moa dot) As you can see has plenty more adjustment for farther forward. Also use a Aimpoint H-1, which is small, on a 270win and 375HH but probably more than you'd want to spend for occasional deer rifle.
  12. There are so many people using the trails up there its becoming a major problem with trail maintenance, parking, etc DEC doesn't know what to do. They should make a bold stroke and make trail fees, but thats a hard sell. Major mentions in many places on the net and in magazines has the place pushed to the max.
  13. You could buy her from a window shop in Amsterdam.
  14. Short course; https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/personal-locator-beacons.html
  15. Most folks rent SAT phones. You need some serious justification to buy. On top of that there is Inmarsat vs Iridium coverage to decide they are not all the same even in the US remote areas....signal is occasionally cumbersome to deal with. I've been in camps with them many times. Sometimes outfitters had them, sometimes clients. Go with one of the SPOT type devices if you really want to get something for ADK's. Or go with PLB for emergencies.
  16. Can recommend these guys; https://brandingirons.com/collections/wood
  17. I worked with a guy who hunted 2 or 3 out of state hunts every year....mostly mid west..... All those properties you killed less than 140"; you paid a penalty of $1-2000 for screwing up. He has never entered anything anywhere and has 55 gallon drums full of racks in his garage in the 120-150 range; most shot here in Dutchess County for the local bucks. I chopped up a couple for antler pen material. LOL
  18. Love to do the collaring Elephants in Mozambique with Ivan Carter in the 2019 list; that'd be some trip. Only seen bits and pieces of Meat Eater, would like to see some full seasons. My internet isn't fast enough to stream.
  19. Being from the area where Molinaro started out and other then while Mayor of Tivoli always a elected representative for me one way or another; interesting to see other areas perceptions are of this election; I like him, always approachable. Hoped for better from the republican party, but they seem to not really do anything for Astorino upstate last time and that cost them the Westchester county elections the next time around and worse is going to cost the NY Senate seats this time too. Hope Dutchess doesn't turn out that way, bad enough we have city of Poughkeepsie to deal with.
  20. I shoot them for the feathers and give away the rest.
  21. Only if you halve your weight to match mine.
  22. Already used hunting vacation for the year. Fishing vacation 11/12-11/25....hope they are biting.
  23. Folks I know look at them more like a general trend. I know an outfitter whose lead bow hunting guide swears by them as a trend and he holds 3 world record animals. I've looked at his sightings logs he's anal about, and it is interesting. This isn't a half dozen animals either over a 2 month season .....they hunt 8 months a year and he'll guide around 80-100 animal kills a season between his and the outfitters clients. About half on foot as a stalking, half as blind. I just hunt when I can or feel like it; but it seems more than anecdotal.
  24. I have some Tubbs that were former EMS rentals(they were not uses til I got them when EMS went out of rental business by me) that are in good shape I would let go reasonable if you are interested. I upgraded to MSR's which are more aggressive frame for hiking; but these would suit more recreational use.
  25. Couple good restaurants along SA's river walk...... Have a fun trip.
