  1. I had to Google that, holy crap there's a bunch of choices! Had no idea.
  2. And then we have the idiots, even on this forum, supporting a company that is actively lobbying for laws that want to limit 2A rights. Incredible.
  3. Tip; don't break check and jump out of your truck saying you have a gun or maybe last thing you do. Girl friend made out best in this one. Thank you Darwin. https://q13fox.com/2018/08/30/you-know-i-got-a-pistol-the-man-yelled-so-the-uber-driver-shot-him/
  4. I watched a dairy calve dropping. I think they are up to 20 or so; its also live on you tube. Makes me miss my cows. Lots of wine slushy places I thought; I don't do fair type stuff much and never thought that would be popular? Didn't really eat much......sweet potato fries were good, found a place serving Smirnoff ice.
  5. Main gate by the pillars had tables set up to check items being carried in, wasn't SP, didn't see any metal detectors.
  6. Enjoying the pictures. Hope the Moose cooperate with more pics.
  7. ^^^ THIS, maybe a few times. Could look into re taking the safety course too.
  8. I don't want to derail this thread so my last comment on this; But thats the whole point of this; the President of SA had publicly come out on changing their constitution to allow no compensation to be given for appropriated land. That's what happened in Zimbabwe. The Brits did give millions to SA govt to purchase land under the idea of "willing seller, willing buyer"; but those funds dried up years ago and the masses are wanting the process to happen faster for a handout. There's way more to the recent articles like the one posted above. I urge folks to actually read up on the topic as headlines don't help those there, or make folks in the US look all that smart either. There is already a topic here in the political forum and numerous of African centered hunting forums on the web that are easy to find with a simple search for more discussion and outfitters chiming in as they see fit. JMHO
  9. And this surprises you how? LOL Moot point now.....Daniel Craig has confirmed he signed up for the next Bond, his fifth. He got in a tift about the role but has back tracked. Relase fall 2019. Frankly I thought the last 4 were good flicks, how can you not like a Bond that kept the old DB 5 in storage and shoots a double rifle at the bad guys. Well except when he dropped it for semi auto, that was shameful. (Skyfall) On that note Astin Martin is building 25, 3.5 million dollar DB 5's for sale.
  10. As you can imagine this is a big topic on a couple of African hunting forums. Personally after a few trips now it wouldn't change my plans. One thing I always admire about the PH/outfitters I have worked with is your resilience in circumstances where Americans would be useless. Always ready to "make a plan". One PH lost family farm to Mugabe's war veterans and another growing up a stones throw from Angolan/ Namibia border during the bush war. Travelling to hunt always requires careful research and working with top operators is a way to help reduce chances of a hunt going awry. That Bushpig in daylight; good stuff. Seven Leopard permits and 5 in Limpopo; its a start. Good luck.
  11. Did you ever do one of those crazy drive up Caribou winter hunts in Quebec near LG 4? Went really late one year and left my truck running continuous. Couple dudes from NY City were really nice guys and we hunted together but their truck froze and I gave one a ride back to Val D'or where he was going to meet his wife driving up. Holy crap that was cold, put your hands inside a Caribou was awesome, but could just get them quartered and they froze.
  12. Just renewed for $35 and got a $25 Cabelas/Basspro gift card.
  13. To me they were lighter in weight than I expected which turned out to be great for layering; so yes, on their own they are good for mild weather. I think they are an early 2.0 that I know was revamped. I go to synthetics for hot weather. Linton Outdoors seems to get a bunch of their stuff for sales. Most helpful on phone with folks that actually use gear they sell. But it comes in bunches not the whole line in the discount bin. But they do run whole line sales too that are pretty decent. I like Icebreaker brand too, but its no longer made in New Zealand.
  14. I have a few First Lite items....Rain jacket, kanab pants, a zip base layer top, gloves. I bought some close outs and I really like the weight.
  15. Reminds me I have to avoid town the next few days with the fair traffic. Good weather day today, not too hot.
  16. I had a single buck goat for brush control when I had some other livestock, pigs and beef at the time. With soft soil not wearing his hooves I had to trim him regular. He was a pisser, loved to play, but had to watch his impressive set of horns; I put tennis balls over them. After a few attempts I built a mini headlock for him and that made quick work with some clippers. Miss having animals but they are a 365 day job and don't allow for easy travel.
  17. Free admission with any sporting license on 23rd and 26th..... Use the money for one of those.
  18. I think they are terrific; and spent a week in a rental that was on top of a 4x4 Toyota similar to a Tacoma (Hilux). Quick set up and take down. Gets you off the ground and away from muddy tent bottoms and bugs. I thought it was terrific with a nice flat deck. Way before these became available in the US, these have been super popular in other parts of the world. The advantage where I was it it keeps you off the ground for snakes, leopard, hyena that are common in camping sites. Though highly enough , I actually tried to figure out an import for one but couldn't get past all the paperwork and shipping cost; tried to get the canvas into a shipment of trophies. Unfortunate most of those pics I have on film and need to scan those some day.
  19. Been involved with 3 on customers jobs. One stand alone dome (similar to your link); one dome incorporated with a fireplace and a barrel vault one that was part of a outdoor grill. Barrel vault one was easy and the customer uses it still a few years later. She always does more than pizza though once its hot and does breads in it too. I haven't worked there in a few years and miss that place, she would feed us on Fridays. If I was light on mason skills and experience, that'd be a easier build. Make a base, build a disposable form with some foam board, cover it with bricks, insulate and parge over the top of some expanded metal lath. There's a place in Florida, NY (Orange county) that sells refractory board and blanket best pricing I have found mail order (google that). Used it for my maple syrup evaporator build. Caution working with that stuff, and all mason products; the dust is nasty bad for you especially that blanket.
  20. Figured you'd be in Booneville this weekend in the carving competition at the Woodsmans Field Days Show. Entering next year?
  21. Never stopped. Red's,Euro starlings, Chucks.....rather hunt in a t shirt.
  22. Basically they get landowner permission across several properties to hold an event, and position cars to stop traffic as they cross roads. Many of the riders own the properties they use. This is a big deal by me in Millbrook area of Dutchess; several of my customers ride and have a bundle tied up in horses and property. Its actually pretty spectacular to see 20-30 riders at full gallop crossing a field. Quite a few interconnected horse trails in the area too that cross all kinds of terrain. One I have worked on also has steeple chase style jumps, I did repairs and painting for a customer. Watching those horses clear jumps is amazing. Here the only downside is that when horse people started buying up failing family farms, mostly small dairy; hunting access dropped. They just don't like folks with guns around their horses. Can't blame them, I hunted a place where a Belgian draft horse had a 30-06 put into it by an idiot on opening day. Horse survived with 5 figure vet bill. After that I got paid to run trespassers off the place on my spare time for next two years. Had a heaping pile of stands in the barn waiting to be collected. Idiot was arrested and had to make restitution for the bills, was on parole so went back to jail too.
  23. LOL. Ain't that the truth. To the politicians from 60 miles south of here, anything north of the 5 Burroughs of NYC is just a photo opportunity with some country bumpkins.
