  1. Very nice! Just wondering if your WG cam has a pir setting and what you found works good? And, whats going on at the bottom of that tree?

    Hogs

This may be off topic but NY should treat coyotes like hogs. Unprotected.
  3. If someone ( on the fence ) wants an honest conversation to I guess better their knowledge, I'll maybe participate in a discussion. If it's an anti I've come to the conclusion that these people are plain ****in stupid and I don't bother.
  4. splitg2 thank you I appriciate that info.
  5. So I'm up at Gander today looking around, Secret Spot has plenty of annual ryegrass, no oats. So much for that. After spending way to much time combing over mix labels I've concluded I don't know what winter rye realy is. So, how about a peas & oats combo?
  6. Well youth hunt at the club took 5 birds I heard. Got one in the NZ for once for the opener, been on the quiet side in the SZ since then - dunno. This could be an X-file.
  7. While that is indeed tempting, in checking the bear season dates I'm heavy into Deer hunting by then (6k, 7j,m,r depending on tags). Seem as I've always hunted on the outskirts of where the Bears are. Found Bear crap in 7r spot the other year, was either that or some 300lb tresspasser had chilli.
  8. We're getting thin on dead horses around here, how about a stray dog?
  9. erussell I don't know about buckwheat but I'm starting a small new plot as well that gets about the same amount of light, it's about 8' x 30' and I thought might be good to try an annual/mix there. And so my thoughts were advance the planting time into July. Got the time to prep it, round up, work a bag or two of 8-8-8 into it with the tiller, the ground is stiff as a board & the ph is only 5.5-6. Was looking at secret spot, maybe something without rye.
  10. I shoot 55# due to some wrist issues & carpel tunnel. Can shoot 60# but definatly notice the difference after a few shots. Discovered I can hold full draw longer at 55# as well. Also since I like to practice in the back yard I don't push it, or practice too long. After about a dozen shots if I don't take a break I can feel my wrist talking to me. Another reason besides the fuel $ i don't shoot league at the club, i'm sure it would be a good time. As far as hunting goes, had my best year Archery yet last season, all pass throughs w/coc heads.
  11. Probably way out of your area but AJ's Archery is off rt20 past Cazenovia.
  12. noodle one has brought up an interesting point - I to have noticed much less thunder chickens sounding off. Very easy to blame the warm weather, not sure thats it though. Anyhow try a different striker on a slate, switching it up making yourself seem like more then one bird. I like the cherry wood & graphite. I usually take 3 different mouth calls as well, you never know if you might need to mock a hen, piss it off and drag a Tom. I like growalots idea on finding the roost. But if you know where they're feeding some mild comanionship calling might do the trick. To luck. edit- imo skip the knight&hale mouth calls. I had 3 new ones f-up on me opening week.
  13. Gobbler Down 8:45 ish 6k NZ Good rain lightened up a bit after 8am, new rain suit from HerbPhilipsons passed the test - Turkey vest soaked. Going for bird #2 7m Good hunting
  14. I use the same jazz, Dick's sells it & some walmarts are now carrying Sawyers.
  15. I was going over a basic plan for May and wondered about what other NY Turkey hunters do. Typicaly hit a few favorite spots in 6k, 7m & 7r. And budgeted about 250$ for fuel. Camp is in the NZ so living in CNY I typicaly stay home and do day runs. That can make it hard to get to sleep when I should because I'm surrounded by typical jazz instead of the serenity of camp. It's alot of extra miles but spring Turkey after all is only once a year.
  16. If it helps Walmart has a pair of 2-g sd cards for about 12$. I look at it this way now I have a reason to check my cams at least twice a month & just swap out the card
  17. Nice! You seem to have about the same amount of green comming in as I do not far away (Williamstown).
  18. Suilleabhain do you hit your cam with anything like scentaway?
  19. Very cool - can even see the reflection.
