Tent catipilars 30 feet up
Fantail replied to Fantail's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Haha funny you ask that. Was just talking with a co-worker about wasp nests way up in corner crevases & such. Got a 8` step ladder for camp, thought about breaking up the nests with 2x pvc pipes together. Or - get on the climber go 20` up without branches in the way and try the spray again. Or - the climber idea with something like a pole spray extender. -

Well, the 29' stuff petered out at 15'-20'. Maybe I can fasten a can on a 20' stick and trigger it somehow. -

Some NZ leases still available for 2012
Fantail posted a topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
The company I lease through still has a few leases available, mostly in the NZ. Limestone Ridge properties I'm suprised, economic times are indeed tough. Usually by this time all available leases are inked. Disclaimer; I am not affiliated or employed by said company. But I will say the guy I do business with there, Eric, has been an honest guy to deal with. -
I'm thinking before killing them off, record the death cries and sell the sound to FoxPro.

Winter rye / peas is in - so is the oats / peas. Hoping real hard for some rain now so all that work wasn't in vain.

Playsport is a good camera, it's designed to be outside & holds a good charge. You can get a real good sd card for it & take good quality video but it's not a 'pro' camera. I have the zx3, replaceable battery. It does mov not wmv like the zx5 but if you have Win/7 moviemaker or use freemake to convert files your good to go.

I'm thinking it's a bit more trouble then it's worth. If it's just the head & not stuck to the arrow I'd dull it down and junk it.

I went off a bit on getting out of town and the noise but it's true. Been camping one way or another since I was a kid. Can remember a friend of mine and I took off on our bikes with pbj's, juice and a tarp - got 'lost' for two days. Mom's were piiiised, .. seemed like a good idea at the time. His mom liked to wear a loose sweatshirt on cold days, ahh the memories. Why go camping, got a counter question - why wouldn't you go? If it's what your into and you like being in the woods or by a lake, frackin swamp, what ever, go. In the end this isn't a quest of fame. I like to share ideas and talk about it because, just because. On that note I will say someone parking their 30k+ trailer at a koa or park grounds and plugging in is - not my cup of tea, just don't get that. noahmstone; nice spread.

I restored an older 15' tow behind camper and set it up on the property. There's always something to do, work here and there but like some of you mentioned it's fun work. Things to improve the place and camp in general. It's satisfying when the day is done, to look around and know you did that, you built that. Got Solar Power there, & started a garden. It's treated as my home away from home. Tell you what though, sometimes when I'm there, enjoying company, chow cooking up over the firepit, a cold beer, a clear dark sky & stars, owls, coyote song, nature and a good nights sleep; I start to miss my apt., suburbia, traffic, delivery trucks beeping, drunks in the parking lot accrost the way slamming doors at 2 am, trailers with loose gear going over manholes, thumping bass lovers as they drive by or hang out in said parking lot, and it wouldn't be fair of me - to forget about the rev-tards on crotch rockets that feel the must announce their arrival & departure everywhere they go.

Labor day weekend looks good for a little work & fun at camp. Fall turns it around, with the changes going on, vacation plans, camping & hunting, love it!

Disclaimer; there are no garuntees to the accuracy of this post I am not sure about the Oats but Winter rye will be fine with a ph of 6. I am under the impression that is the ph is higher and you put down 13-13-13 or what not then less is waisted. With lime down over time this will help the general soil condition. Those are annuals so at some point you'll need to churn it. I'm thinking over a few years granted a slow process but one way to get a better plot going. For now, it's not like your planting ph critical seed.

Tent catipilars 30 feet up
Fantail replied to Fantail's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Usually find the 15'-20' jazz. And you just know they realy don't have the nads. But ok for most apple trees etc. Guess it's time for a drive over to tractor supply. -
Damned things. Usually I just get a long stick and destroy the nests, does a good job. Sometimes I'll blast them with spray or 7. But these clowns are way up in two black cherry trees. Can't reach them. Suggestions please.

Very cool, decent traffic! If you can keep the tent catipilars & jap bettles off them and spike the drip edge every other year I think they'll keep being deer magnets.

Had my speakers up, geeezze.

I'm chewing about 3 weeks pto in Oct., & about a week in Nov. Plus there's the 4 days for Thanksgiving, ok 3. I'm short .5 hrs for another day I can't use for a nice burn.

At first I was wondering how there could be an 'end of season' thread already. Very unfortunate, hope the heal up goes well for you.

An interesting observation - the soy/peas plot is now doing better then the clover. Not crazy better but it doesn't look like it's getting hit like the clover. So, I picked up a bag of peas/oats I'll put in the strip. The clover will then be bracketed by that and the winter rye/peas. These are not huge plots but near an acre all together. About three years ago I tried oats and they didn't pan out. But they were planted about a month early.

That's deer porn right there.

I'm just happy Gander shipped my order. Should be on time now. They need to do something with their cart. I mean you spend 100$ or so and hear nothing for days. Ok, bought an AntlerKing product fall/winter/spring winter (cereal) rye & peas mix. 1 bag for a new plot & 1 bag to salvage another plot near the clover. I typicaly overseed a little, not sure if that's a good habit but I figgure not all will germinate and there will be loss to some seed slightly exposed. This leaves a small strip about 1x50 yards, and another 5x10 yard spot, cleared out to expand the soy/peas next year should they prove. Should have gotten a 3rd bag, but I didn't. These small spots are partly shadded. Seems a shame to leave them be till next year. Maybe I can find a small bag of something annual without reg rye on the label. What else is anyone planting?
