  1. Hunter Safety System Bowhunter: shoulder straps go on like a backpack, and then the single clasp across the stomach. I wear it under my outer jacket, so I can put it on at the car, and pack my jacket until I get to the stand...helps keep my cool while walking in.
  2. I agree that it is an ugly rifle out of the box. I changed the handguard to a longer one, and added offset sights with a Nikon scope, and I think it prettied it up some.
  3. Agreed o the 7.62. You can get 150 gr rounds for hunting which is plenty heavy enough. Also there is surplus Ammo available for cheap. Makes for a fun day at the range.
  4. I have an SCR, chambered in 5.56/.223. I love it. Its fun to shoot and super lightweight. It does NOT come with open sights, but Ares sells them via their website. Or you could mount an optic on the provided rail. The upper is basically a standard AR upper, but you have to use the Ares bolt carrier group, as they use a different buffer system than a regular AR. It takes standard AR magazines. Mine came with a 5 round magaziine. Its a fine rifle as far as fit and finish, zero complaints there, it was pretty oily from the factory, so a strip down and "clean" was needed. I'd say go for it. Plus if you buy or have a different calliber upper, you can swap it out as long as the BCG works with both uppers(Ares could verify this for you). Go for it.
  5. I saw this today: http://syracuse.craigslist.org/spo/5614925510.html Seems like a good deal for a brand new bare bow.
  6. Craigslist or Ebay are your best places to look.
  7. Grackles!!! Those filthy buggers, nest in my tree tops every spring and crap all over EVERYTHING! I've found no good way (yet) on how to get them to move on.
  8. I'm going to go on my first shed hunt today. I've never actively looked for sheds before, and I am going to go to a spot near my work at lunch break...I hunted this spot during this past season, and there was a VERY active scrape line that followed a wood line, and goes thru an apple orchard and out to a corn field. We'll see if I find anything.
  9. The kind that cost too much money!!!
  10. HA! The last 3 rifles I bought made it into my house that way.
  11. I don't have an unrestricted handgun permit so the pistols stay home. As far as my everyday carry goes: Trayvax Axis wallet Kershaw Cryo folding knife with open assist Keysmart key organizer with Bluetooth Tile iPhone 6
  12. Just curious...do you live in Madison county? Your location says Manlius. I live in Onondaga county but i've worked in Madison county for 8 years. I'd love to upgrade mine, but 0.001% of that happening in Onondaga county.
  13. Thanks for the input everyone. $17.99 direct from summit isn't too bad...vs. $40. Definitely a summer project, too cold to be out in the garage messing around right now.
  14. If left exposed the steel cables will rust.....if wiped down with a light coat of oil, covered and sealed, I'm quite certain they will hold up a lot longer than if not.
  15. OK will do. I don't know if Lowes or HD sell heat shink tube in that large of a diameter and in roll form. I know a few industrial shops that do....also the ebay market has them. I actually have 2 vipers now. I just picked up a used, older steel one that's in good shape for $55, the cables on that one are not rusted either, so once I knife off the coating and see the whole thing, they will get recoated as well as on my new viper. I picked up the used one to use specifically as my "leave it out in the woods" stand. I have a spot that's a long walk, so I'd like to leave a climber out there....my new stand still has that monetary new smell, so I was not about to leave it out in the woods.
  16. Morning! I'd like to replace the heat shrink/rubber coating on my summit cables. I've found the stuff on Ebay for about $20. Just wondering if anyone has done it before and had some feedback. I'm not about to give Summit $40 plus shipping for new cables when mechanically mine are fine, just the outer coating is beat up, the stand was new this year, and I only used it for one season. Thanks.
  17. Compliant AR with a 5 round magazine for hunting, or buy an Ares SCR, it is a featureless AR platform rifle.
  18. I exorcize at home vs the gym, but yes, I plan on starting again very shortly, only the last 2 weeks have I slacked off enough to where I physically feel the difference. Plus all the holiday food that was at the ready just about everywhere i went did not help. I excorcize to keep my lower back in check due to a herniated disc last year.
  19. Mine did great. 12 yard broadside shot on a buck, he ran about 40 yards and died. Upon cleaning him out, we found the heart cut right in half. Rage Chisel tip 100 grain. Only deer I got this year, once the gun season started, I didnt see much of anything.
  20. NYS is pretty much the worst state for just about everything. LOL we pretty much already knew that.
  21. I think if you buy one as a display gun only you don't need a permit. If you buy one with the intent on using it, then it needs to go on your permit. Either way, here in NYS its probably best to just have it put on your permit.
  22. I already use the Third Hand Archery straps, they definitely make the stand solid. I plan on getting that Q-safe strap, I only just recently discovered it.
  23. I too wear my safety harness under my Jacket. My hood(on this jacket) is a removable hood with buttons, so i put the lanyard through the existing gap. I tie off as soon as I'm up about 5 feet in the climber, and in a hang on, its the first thing I do when I reach the platform. I think I'll try the 2 hoist rope idea.
  24. Morning everyone. This is the first year I've hunted with a climber. My question is how do most of you pack in your outer layers? Usually I dress up, and strap my coat/vest along with gloves, hat, etc. to the stand itself and then dress up before I actually climb. I've had some mixed results with getting sweaty while carrying the stand....mostly I realize I walk too fast to try to get to the spot, I need to slow down some, that's on me. Does anyone use more than one hoist rope? One for weapon of choice and the other for outer layers? I feel like even though the climb itself isn't too tough, while I'm already warm from the walk in, adding layers at the time of the climb does not help...but I haven't figured out a good solution for putting the outer layers on the stand and then finishing to dress while at the top. I also try to pack as light as possible, but there are times it still seems like a workout. Thanks.
  25. I've heard steady shots through 7M....Last year was quiet down that way, but this year seems to be alright.
