  1. Hey everyone. I am thinking of going tomorrow morning with my muzzleloader, and am wondering if its worth it. Its forecast to be super cold and windy. We have snow here and its basically a full moon, so I think the deer are moving at night. But I was thinking of going out around 8:30ish, and maybe hunt until 11:00 on the off chance of seeing deer for a mid morning feeding. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
  2. I plan on hunting Saturday PM, and Sunday. Then one or two days during the week for ML, and that final weekend.
  3. Ok, I'm in CNY, too far for me. Good luck with your sale.
  4. Core, I dont care for the powerbelts, they shoot good, but I lost a deer with them once, so I switched to Hornady XTP sabbots. its a .44 magnum hollow point bullet, with the .50 Cal sabbot.(devastating bullet) I use 100grains of 777 pellets with the 777 primers, and this set up works good for my gun.
  5. I like my Summit Viper. Although, any long walks in, or up hill journeys are not fun with a 27 pound climber on your back. I get sweaty easily in this scenario. I have found that if I wear a short sleeve, or even a single base layer with no hat or gloves, and strap my layers and coat to the stand, or carry as a "pack roll" I can avoid getting sweaty.
  6. I sold off my first gen Optima, then went with no ML for a while...Picked up the SS Wolf last year, and I love mine. Super light, the stock for me is very comfortable to shoulder and aim. Pretty darn accurate with just the open sights. I have a scope and mount, but just havent installed them yet. I too went with the SS to help against rust(some types of SS will rust, but at a much slower pace than regular steels). Enjoy it and Good luck.
  7. Yeah both my Vipers(classic steel, and an aluminum) do not fold. I dont think Summit made these ones for very long, but yes the folding option would be nice.
  8. NYS is 17" minumum uncocked, not 14". Crossbow Specifications A legal crossbow consists of a bow and string, either compound or recurve, that launches a minimum 14-inch bolt or arrow, not including point, mounted upon a stock with a trigger that holds the string and limbs under tension until released. The trigger unit of such crossbow must have a working safety. Minimum limb width: 17 inches (outer tip of limbs, excluding wheels and cams, uncocked) Minimum peak draw weight: 100 pounds Maximum peak draw weight: 200 pounds. Minimum overall length: 24 inches from butt-stock to front of limbs.
  9. wow, hell of a good deal. Where are you located?
  10. Syracuse area here, and the pressure is up in my neck of the woods for sure. its hard to gauge here, since I hunt mostly public land, and it seems that the pressure is always up on public land. Hopefully many hunters have filled their tags already, and there will be less pressure moving forward.
  11. I'm from Cicero, welcome neighbor!
  12. I've done all the things as mentioned above. Leave a tree belt on the tree, and hook up when I get there, carry one with me, and wrap it and hook up when I get there. Use a climbing belt while climbing.... Now I use a Q-safe mostly with my climber, and I have used it as mentioned in a hang on stand. Also I use the HSS quick carabiners to quickly attach. http://blindedhunting.com/ohio-hunting/q-safe/
  13. you are correct. I missed that big 6 a half hour before I shot the small six.
  14. Hey everyone. So I drank the crossbow koolaid earlier this year. I bought a Centerpoint Sniper 370. So yesterday (11-6-2016) I was in a ladder stand watching the edge of some pines, there is a scrape at 20 yards in front of the stand. At 7:30, a small spike came through and snuck through behind me, and made his way through with no shot opportunity. Around 8:00 a HUGE 6 point came from in front of me on a trail that has a blind spot in the way of a big cherry tree. So I didnt see him until he was 30 yards from me, facing me(Picture attached of the big 6) He turned broadside and I stopped him and lined up the shot....POOF, right under him clean miss. *%^&#*#($%&*!!!!!!! I was so mad at myself but I was glad it was a clean miss vs, a bad hit. I got down and went to get my bolt, as I knew I had missed clean. I returned to the stand and reloaded the crossbow. 30 minutes later, another (smaller) 6 point came in and tended the scrape at 20 yards. Once he turned broadside, I let him have it. He ran about 40 yards, and I heard him crash. So I was able to redeem myself. Enjoy the pics. Centerpoint Sniper 370 Piledriver bolts with Slicktrick Magnum 100 broadheads.
  15. What is your skill and or profession?
  16. Ok, I didnt know that...On a side note, I found 5 round en-block clips for sale at Brownells. I wonder if a strict DEC officer would have issues with a standard clip even if only loaded with 5?
  17. How do you plan to load 5 rounds? If I'm not mistaken, doesnt that rifle load 8 rounds? Do you have a special en-block clip? Also I would think that regular Remington Corelokt bullets in 30-06 would be just fine to use.
  18. a friend of mine and I once made a blind using some of that camo burlap material, we wrapped it around a fallen tree, and 2 others that were really close. Then all we had to do was carry in a small seat when we wanted to hunt it. Super cheap.
  19. Four. Mossberg 500 20ga shotgun Mossberg ATR .270 CVA Optima ML - (sold it a few years back) Mathews Z7Xtreme bow
  20. it came to $291 delivered after sales tax and free shipping. It was $269.
  21. Good Morning! I pulled the trigger (so to say), and purchased this bow from Amazon. I missed the Cabelas sale unfortunately. It is scheduled to be delivered by Sunday thanks to Amazon Prime. I'm pretty excited. Thanks to Thefieldarcher for his video reviews.
  22. This crossbow is on my shortlist....I hope to pick one up before the start of this coming season. I had a chance to hold and shoulder one. I like the feel of it, and the adjustable stock is a nice feature that will allow me to let my son shoot as well.
  23. I've thought about one of these for use with my climber. I also carry a secondary tree strap in my pack. http://blindedhunting.com/ohio-hunting/q-safe/
  24. The last I saw on a recall of these bows was with the cocking device. Not sure if there are other recalls or not.
