  1. I bought a stock set from them for my old Savage 24. Very nice set for the money. The overall finish was very high quality, I had to do a small bit of fitting to make the butt fit my receiver, but other than that, its great. A guy here at work bought a stock for his bolt action deer gun, and he said it dropped right on, no fitting required, and he loves it. I'd say it would be a good upgrade should you decide to buy.
  2. I have an X-Large SafTbak brand Bird vest for sale, its in great shape, only used a few times. $20 TYD or I'll meet up in the Syracuse area within reason. PM me for contact info if interested.
  3. I liked my first gen Optima. just want stainless steel and new breech plug design. Id buy optima again.
  4. Im planning on Friday afternoon, hopefully I will beat the rain....Saturday I'm staying home, Sunday I'll be out, and that's it for me pretty much.
  5. I'm into modern technology, but thanks for the pic. Good looking Muzzleloaders though. Using your logic on real and fake is a bit flawed I think...Lets make an analogy, take fake breasts for example....if you can see them, and possibly get a feel on them, then they are real enough. HA!
  6. I have a Black Dog Machine holster for the Ruger Standard, Mk 1, 2, 3 and 22/45 hand guns. I recently got rid of the gun, and I forgot about the holster. It is ambidextrous, and has the "low" ride belt bracket. HOLSTER for the Ruger Mark Series! To your door for $30. FTF for $25. I live in the Syracuse area, and I will travel within reason.
  7. I've only lived in the area for 7 years, and have not seen, nor heard of any hogs in my area. I know what you mean about everyone flocking to the state lands, its frustrating when you look at the maps, and there are tons of county lands that dont allow hunting at all. I've found some spots, that I have marked down as probable. Now I just need to get out and scout.
  8. Hello everyone. I have been toying with the idea of trying my hand at some of the CNY WMU's. I live in Cicero and I have been through Cicero Swamp, and I am not really interested in that area. Too thick and I almost got lost once, so just not interested in that. I usually hunt public land a bit south of Syracuse, and I would like to broaden my options for next season. Does anyone here hunt Three Rivers or Hamlin Marsh? I've not been to either location, ideally spring of 2015 will be my first time in either location, for purposes of scouting. I have a few other spots on my radar, but I am interested in both of these to start, as they are the closest to my house (SANS Cicero Swamp). Thanks.
  9. Antler Insanity is what I currently use. However this season it seems to freeze up a lot, I'm not sure if its the App or my phone, as its getting old. Plot stands...shows weather and wind, walk to/drive to options I like it, but unsure of the freezing part...Like I said it could just be my phone getting old and buggy.
  10. Hey everyone. Currently I drive a small hatchback car due to my long commute to work and home, so an SUV or pick up truck are not ideal. I have been mulling the idea of adding a roof rack and basket to my car. I was doing some online browsing and came across a trailer hitch that is the kind that tucks up behind the rear bumper and only the actual receiver is exposed, which made me think of the Aluminum hitch mounted carriers. So upon further internet snooping, I found that it would cost about the same to go either route, so cost is negligible at this point...both options are around the $200 mark end of the day. I honestly have no preference which one, I have used both in the past, both have their respective pro's and con's. The only thing the roof rack would be nice for in the future is hauling long items like a ladder or a few 2 x 4's....however the hitch would allow me to tow a small trailer(wagon) with the addition of a lighting harness for brake lights. My main interest in this would mainly be for hauling deer. Just wondering what would be the more practical approach. The car is new, and I plan on keeping it for 5 or 6 years...longer if it treats me well. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Holy cow what public land are you hunting....we hunt public land in CNY and we went in and were on top of the hill by 6:00AM, hoping the local orange brigade would push the deer up the hill to us. There were almost zero hunters out. I had a doe sneak up behind me at 7:00AM, busted me and took off, I had no shot opportunity, and didn't see a thing for the rest of the day. Very few shots heard through out the AM either.
  12. Hey Ants, I'm not sure about the 300 grain ones. I shoot the .44cal 240 grains. I can find them at Gander Mtn near us. Also Walmart sells the TC labeled xtp. They are the same as my Hornady branded ones. If I can get to it, I'll post a picture of them side by side. I think I still have both packages.
  13. I use Hornady XTP's, I shot a buck in 2012, and he went about 25 yards...dead. Damage from that bullet was unreal, I don't think I'll switch until they stop making them.
  14. As the title states I am thinking of updating my 1st generation CVA Optima(blued with black synthetics), to a newer model in stainless steel with the new quick release breech plug system. I am torn though if I should stick with the Optima model or go with a Wolf, both are offered in Stainless steel and both have the new breech plug design. Should I move forward with this, I would sell or trade my current muzzleloader and put it towards the new one. Any input would be appreciated. I am in no hurry to do this, just started to mull the idea around. Thanks.

  17. I was #6 in Cicero this morning! Got there at about 6:05AM.
  18. I know a guy who never voted before, and is now registered to go vote with us:
  19. I hunt 7J and 7M.....both areas are showing minimal scrape activity...at least where I have been through. Lets hope this comming cold front on Halloween gets things moving. I havent seen one deer in the woods yet this season, so I'm hoping the weather will churn things up. I have noticed its a good year for beech nuts and acorns....perhaps the ample food supply is a factor too in limited movement.
  20. Out in 7M this morning(10-23-14), I saw early indications in an active scrape that it was recently visited, but still had alot of leaves in it, the buck may have been there before I got in, or its from yesterday....I'm learning this new spot of mine may be an evening active area. Hopefully next week things start to really heat up.
  21. I agree....but sitting on a heated seat that can be turned on and off should really help with keeping your core warm....I'm all about it, who 4 hour charge is plenty for what I'd use it for. I did not find any specs on their website, but I'm sure its comparable to most rechargeable devices.
