I have a Summit Viper Mini, with the aluminum frame, its not super heavy, as compared to an original steel one. I have a newer aluminum one, and an original one thats used as my backup/leave overnight. The steel one in my opinion is much more comfortable to sit in for longer periods. The super light one these days are the X-stand. Its like 12 pounds, and one of their models is a sit and climb. Sportsman's Guide sells them actually for much less than the manufacturer website.

I sat this morning before work....I saw the same doe and two fawns as I did the last time I sat this spot. They came through around 7:00AM. I swear I had a buck behind me at one point, because I thought I could hear a few short snorts, but I couldn't see much of anything as its pretty thick cedar swamp back there. Tomorrow is a bust for me, wife has be busier than a one arm paper hanger....back out on Sunday. Good luck out there!

I carry a camo plastic rain parka....its not pretty, but keeps you dry while sitting.

I sat out this morning, about 8:45, a nice doe came through with her "fawns" The one was a button buck, and walked over to my path in the weeds where I was sat up with my climber. He came within 15 feet to the base of the tree before he turned and trotted off. Pretty neat to watch them at those close distances.

I switched from fixed to mechanicals when Rage introduced the chisel tip heads. I am very happy with them, I currently have (4) functioning heads, and a handfull of the practice tips. I have replaced the blades on heads that have killed deer, and they are still just fine. Two of the other heads I had did break, and they were thrown out. The Rage punch a hell of a hole in a deer. Enjoy!

Congratulations....first time bow kill is always a memory.

There are a few ways...you can take off the hunting bolt, and replace with a regular bolt and shoot into a small unloading target at close range(what I do), or you can use a decocking bolt and shoot into the ground. Those are either a bolt with a big blunt tip(reuseable), or some are biodegradable "plastic"(one and done)...Those are made by TenPoint. https://www.amazon.com/Carbon-Express-22-Inch-Crossbow-Release/dp/B008237O92/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1506962000&sr=8-4&keywords=crossbow+decocking+bolts https://www.amazon.com/Morrell-Yellow-Jacket-Discharge-Target/dp/B004TSPURC/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1506962034&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=crossbow+decocking+bag

I have never had a camera stolen(knock on wood). I have had hang on stands stolen though, so I understand the frustration. What I have done with my cameras, not yet on my two newest ones....is I have an engraving tool that works similarly to a tattoo gun, and I scrawl my name and initials right into the plastic, on multiple faces, inside, and outside so even if the serial number sticker is scraped off....good luck sanding out all the engraving. My thought is that if I were a thief who tried to steal a camera to sell for a lousy few bucks, that if its engraved with names and initials on multiple faces, it would be too much trouble to move easily, and hopefully its left alone. -
I got one yesterday, first time. I like the idea, but it seems like an outdated and unaccurate system if you ask me. I'll do it, but I fail to see how the DEC can use the data from a lousy few thousand of these for the whole state...perhaps if they had an online version or something through the Pocket Ranger or HuntFishNY Apps.

Looking at the DEC SLIM, there are tons of state land spots around the Ithaca area. I personally like to have 3 or 4 different properties to hunt so that I don't have all my eggs in one basket. Good Luck to you.

I switched to an HHA Optimizer 2 years ago. Love it. I made my own sight tape though. The one that I used according to the math calculations didnt work as well as I'd have liked for my bow.

Hunter Safety System Bowhunter harness....goes on like backpack straps, three years so far and its awesome.

You could do an Ares SCR with a .458 upper. Featureless and just as easy to clean as a traditional AR platform.

I cleaned my front yard up along with the flower beds this past weekend. I have a feeling I will be mowing within the next 1-2 weeks. The back yard I don't get as fussy about. I will rake around the trees the first time I mow, and let the mower grind up the small sticks and tree debris.

not sure if mentioned yet: The Great Outdoors with John Candy! Classic! Big fan of the Lord of the Ring movies as well. Casino, GoodFellas too many others to list, I could be here all day.

At this point the bill is still in committee. Lets worry about it if it actually becomes law. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2017/s4739/amendment/a -

Sherpa game carts! I have the kit for the Summit climbers. They also make exactly what you are asking about: http://sherpahunting.com/products.html -
Contact the corporation and figure out who does the land management and grounds. Don't get your hopes up....I bet due to insurance and liability, they will tell you no.

Anyone a member of the Camillus Sportsman's Club
loworange88 replied to Otto's topic in General Chit Chat
I have a buddy who lives right near there. He travels out to Baldwinsville. He says there is too much drama and what not at Camillus. I went to the Bville range with him once, and it was nice. There are a few other ranges in the Syracuse area as well. -
Perfect. Thank you!

Sorry if this has been asked or addressed previously. I want to have a Euro mount done on the buck I took in the Muzzleloader season. Is there anyone in the Syracuse area who boils or has beetles? Thanks.

2016 HuntingNY Muzzleloader Harvest thread
loworange88 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Muzzleloaders
Good Morning, I was lucky enough to take this buck yesterday morning while hunting with my Dad. I was watching a hay lot that has been a good feeding spot lately with the snow on the ground. I got to the spot around 6:45, and at 7:30, this guy appeared out about 80 yards. It was a bit foggy where I was, and so all I could see was the silhouette, and I was not sure how big of a buck he was. I brought up my CVA Wolf, and squeezed off the shot. The shot broke his back, and when I got to him, he had crawled into the woodline, and at which point I finished him off. Dad and I got him out, and he is now off to be cut up. I will most likely do a Euro mount, as I personally prefer that to a full mount. His rack has 9 points, and measures 17" inside, and from the top of the skull to the tallest tine, is 11.5". A great way to end the season. He is my best buck to date, and my second deer with the muzzleloader. Enjoy.- 16 replies

Agreed! I can get out tomorrow and some on the weekend, then that's it for me. I'd like to be able to stack one more into the freezer. So far this entire season, it's been one deer. I had a few doe I could have shot, but I passed at the time. Now I'm kicking myself for it.
