Shot low on a very nice 6 or good 8. A few white hairs, zero blood and the thing bound away like nothing. Literally gave him a close shave. A far shot, I needed to use one more crosshair lower.

IM not liking that wind forecast for Sat afternoon much either. Sat morning might work. No rain in my forecast until 9, but winds are beginning to pick up. Maybe Ill go find some Canadians to shoot later morning.

Any of these archery shops sell new shoulders? I need two.. a left and a right. If not, I have a nearly brand new PSE Stinger, lefty, sitting there begging to be taken out into the woods. I could be convinced to part with as I doubt I will ever draw it again. Been wondering what to do with it. Anyone have interest PM me. Good luck on the search.

Hopefully you are still trolling the site Slayer. The best place I have found for trees is a place called Schlabachs Nursery, near Fredonia/Buffalo somewhere. They are old school Mendonites and are not online. You have to send cash or check and call them or snail mail for a catalog. They have bare root/whips. Excellent quality for best prices. 866 600 5203 . YOu also need to think about spray program, the amount of time for trimming, fertilizing, thinning, deer fence, mouse guards. It is time and effort to get a crop of most fruit. I have found certain varieties of Asian Pears seems to escape most of the bugs and diseases prevalent in my area. They are wonderful fruit as well. DO pay attention to root stock. Dwarf often times need staking and require more attention. Also fruit can be smaller and less quantity. Good luck...

Deer have made me so many times in a stand. I don't know how they do it but they look up and see me. Yes they look up. I am not moving when they see me either. My ground blind I Have been made twice by jogging bucks that were cruising toward me. I think they silhouetted me against the open windows behind me, or saw my eyes. Interestingly, deer that are moving slow, grazing, etc have not made me in the blind. Like grampy says.. dont look them in the eye. I am going to be careful this year from my blind. I prefer my blind due to its more stealthy nature, in my situation.

Why did you change from Grim Reapers? I been using them in my xbow since I first bought it and love them.

Hand crank still not so good on the shoulders. This would need to age on the floor then I'll butcher. I need to look into electric winch for next season. Anyone care to share a jpeg of their setup?

My shoulders are hosed up enough where hanging a deer is a problem. Im going out for xbow and hoping to drop something. I have always hung deer for a few days at least. I don't think I can hang one this year and wonder if I leave it flat on the ground or possibly flat in the basement what that may do to the meat. I think yotes may get if I leave flat on the ground so thinking basement for 3-4 days, depending on the temps. Comments??

While out for ducks yesterday I see this object moving faster than any swimming bird I’ve ever seen. This is on one of the finger lakes. It came from east to west., across the lake. The size is a bit hard to tell but quite a bit larger than a Canadian goose. Did not look at all like a bird. This was roughly 730am in rain and some wind chop. I concluded this was a deer, though that does not make a ton of sense. I know deer can swim but why would it... it’s kind of far. A person in a small kayak does not make sense either, as it just did not fit the profile. I lost sight when it was close to land. I assume it made the shore. Strange.

Skunked again! I saw a nice pair of fat blacks today though at least. They were coming in but I think the damn dog squirmed so they flaired. Out of range... worst opening weekend in some time. I heard exactly one very faint shot early. Nothing more.

Not the best opening morning. I saw one duck! Lots of geese and seagulls. I heard some shoooting but not as much as I should have.

I kind of wish you were kidding but those of us who have duck hunted late season know you are NOT kidding.... Sat supposed to be real feel 28, 65% chance rain and a 8MPH east wind.. Since I am facing east this will not be the most fun. But I am looking forward to the hunt with youthful zeal. Looking forward to teaching him the term "sky busting". !!!

Does this story count as harassment of a hunter? My only hunting land is a small parcel 20 or so acres sandwiched between a number of houses. It is legal but very tight for gun. Not ideal but its really all I have. Cops were called several times a year. Never any tickets.. So one day I'm out and my neighbor walks over to me and tells me the following.... "I had a DEC officer come over the other day. He asked me if you had permission to hunt. I told him yes. He told me I should revoke that permission here and now. I told him no I was OK with you hunting there and it was no problem. He said think of your daughters. Do you want someone out shooting around your daughter? Tell me now they can't hunt I'll go over there and end this immediately..." I about shit bricks when he was telling me this. Another man may have given into the pressure of law enforcement. I am happy he did not. Its been a few years and new house owners this summer. I got permission but the neighbor is an ass and removed the property line markers. He proceeded to mow past the boundary, after I specifically told him not to. I think my time gun hunting may be at end as I am going to remark the boundary and tell him not to remove them again.

I have the same, so does my hunting buddy. No complaints... If the price is right, I wouldn't hesitate. I think I dropped a deer with it every year I had it.

This property seems to have deer when the corn is still up. Not much moves around there when its down. I hope it stays up for a good while.

Wow. I cant believe I wasted time reading this thread to the end. But it reminds me of a story. One day I was in the lovely town called Sausalito in California. Some young kid had somehow offended some old crotchety person on the highway. The old fart jumped out of his car and ran over and started screaming at the kid and almost hit him.
