Looking for a weekend place to go and rent this winter. Any suggestions??

El Rey network... “the way of the turkey” Kung fu movie marathon. Some classics from China. An alternative to football if you are into martial arts. Enjoy.

IM going to know this winter. My hunting buddy dropped an 8 yesterday morning. I know what you mean about "waxy" taste. I tried some ribs one year and they were "waxy" tasting. I have all the fat removed, or 99% off the bones I Have. Hoping the fat taste is not going to be very strong.

Is there special regulations for hunting near an airport?
Al Bundy replied to RangerClay's topic in General Chit Chat
The airport I used to fly is in the middle of a dairy farm and the landowner leases the hunting rights every year. I do not know the details and this is likely a smaller airport than what you are talking about. But.. hunting goes on. I came a bit close to getting a deer with a Cessna one day while landing. Small herd was hanging out on the end of the runway where I couldnt see them. I was never made aware of any special laws about the airport when I learned to fly. I am assuming you are OK with normal hunting rules. Obviously if you are using a rifle, know your target and beyond. -
Have 7h and 7J for trade. Someone with a big heart take a tag in exchange for putting my wife in a good stand. My hunting places are weak at best. She has put in a good bit of time this year and only saw one deer. No shot. Anyone feeling charitable please reach out to me. Thanks.

Peggy Bundy will be boiling out some bones and making soup this winter sometime. She been itching to do this for a while now. I hope its a good flavor. Thinking of using it as a stock for mushroom soup instead of store bought chicken stock. If its good stock, I may need to bribe the butcher to set some bones aside for me next year. I removed most of the meat off the bones, but that is how she wanted it. We shall see.

I will be in Albany area for Thanksgiving and would like to try and shoot my rifle. If I can find a spot, I need to bring my rifle back from hunting camp this weekend. Looks like most places I see are membership. Anyone know a place I can practice that does not require membership? Thanks!!

Investigate.. maybe . Legally? Definitely. "HI Mr. Neighbor. We checked your call and regrettably, we are unable to enter the property legally as its posted and gated." No the neighbor didn't put a gun to the DEC head and say "BREAK THE LAW". Neither did the neighbor say "Go to the house over there and demand permission be revoked."
-
Neighbors with political ties calling the police when they hear gun fire. Neighbor saying he does not want us shooting by his house. I was not picked at random. But I figured out the law and was ready for subsequent violations of DEC illegally coming onto my posted, gated, private land. I wonder if DEC investigates every call where someone says "My neighbor just shot his gun.."
-
Note: Under New York law, any property that is posted, fenced or gated, no matter how secluded, is protected private property. The unauthorized entry on to such property by anyone, including DEC staff, will constitute trespass. It should also be noted that regulatory inspections should be conducted in a manner that is reasonable. Under the holding of Flacke v. Onondaga Landfill Sys. (127 Misc2d 984 [Sup. Ct. Onondaga County 1985], affd 177 AD2d 992 [4th Dept. 1986] rev'd on other grounds 69 NY2d 863 [1987]), overly frequent inspections of the same site may be deemed unreasonable and give rise to claims of harassment. Sometimes they are not your friends and sometimes though you have nothing to hide, you do still need to fear them. Sorry to disagree grampy, but I have been on the receiving end of unwanted and unwarranted visits from "friends" . One "friend" also tried hard to intimidate a neighbor into revoking permission to shoot within 500ft of his house. A few bad apples as the saying goes.

By whir whir I assume you mean the engine turned over at least a little then wouldn't start. If you get it running do the following. Point the jeep at a wall/garage doors at night. Turn all other lights off. Turn on jeep lights. Take note of the brightness or lack thereof. Rev the engine while watching the wall where your lights are pointed. If the lights get brighter, battery is taking a charge. Alternator is doing its job. Dash lights should also increase inbrightness but may be harder to tell. Hope that your alternator is bad.. I had an electrical gremlin in two vehicles and oh man. Not fun. One the horn would go off at random times. Pulled the fuse and that was the end of the issue, but no horn for me. Other electrical issue started out the doors would unlock when I hit a bump. I ignored it and locked the doors. THen it started to leave lights on, such as interior dome. Then it migrated to the alarm system. System would go off at a whim. I pulled the alarm system fuse and that did the trick. If I Had to actually find the short or pay someone to do it.. not fun. Good luck.

I want to hunt where all you who have deer within 20 yards every sit. Or those whom have missed MONSTER bucks. I am lucky I see more than a few deer per season. I am very lucky to get more than 1 shot per season. So... when I see something my heart goes ape shit. I have two ways of trying to deal with this. If the deer is far away, it gives my heart time to slow down. I keep telling myself to relax. If the deer is close, point and let the bolt fly/squeeze the trigger. No time to think, no time to look at antlers. Ill count points just before I gut it..

There is a spot on my hunting property that for at least 8 years deer make a scrape. They started it again this year like normal, but have abandoned it. Another spot that also has been used every year is still being used. Its 25 yards or so from the other. this tells me the deer are still coming around. ANy ideas why they would abandon the scrape? Someone pissed in the scrape??

LIVE From The Woods 2018 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!

I saw a doe this morning trailed by a nice buck. Closest shot was 60 yards through some saplings. I passed. I don’t even really call that a shot. Grunted at him but he paid me no heed. I assume he was like I got my woman.. come take her if you dare. He disappeared behind a hill. Nothing more after this. Good job to those who stuck out the cold wind.- 10374 replies

I see it! Sasquatch being levitated by alien spacecraft! I am a believer now

I hunt over a big ole pile of corn. About 25 or so acres. Sometimes cut, sometimes not. Deer eat this corn all the time! Don't call DEC on me... Damn farmer. Making me break the law by shooting over his corn pile!

A great investment is lighted knocks. Lumenok or similar. Much easier to find the bolt. Well worth the price.

Saturday.. Large buck in a field about 1030 AM with his eye on a doe. He didn't move, didn't notice me or anything. Did not look like chasing or in heat but serious interest. Nothing on trail cams at night or day for that matter. Nothing moving. I am assuming its lockdown time in 7J right now.

Y I have a range finder but the wife had it. This was a tough shot, I almost didn’t take. I usually err on the side of caution but this time did not. I was lined up very nice, just further than I usually take. As such.. misjudged. It was a nice body deer. Ughhh.
