Save your wingbones, trade for call
HectorBuckBuster replied to alloutdoors's topic in Turkey Hunting
Cool, I will see about hooking you up with a few.I will try and get wings from my buddies too -
Every bird is different. Some birds only need a few calls other birds will only come if you are aggressive. I would not being owl calling at 4:30 am,(just my preference) I usually just sit and listen, if I don't heard anything by 5:30 ish then I will make a soft call.Sounds like I would move up to that ridge area and setup.

I own a jake and hen Avian Decoys, and all I can say is they are worth every penny I spent on them. Just the show and how close and unspooked that gobbler came in the other day for my daughter was amazing. The big old gobbler was getting ready to thumb my decoy just before she shot him. All I can say is when the turkeys spot my Avian Decoys, its like they are on a string being pulled right to them.

I think I'm in trouble...
HectorBuckBuster replied to Merlot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You might want to check this out. Owls and hawks mounted prior to the revision of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in 1972 (Title 16 USC, section 703) may be possessed with the burden of proof on the holder. -
Ok, my mother in laws boyfriend had one of these since it was brand new and just sold it a few months ago for $7000 and I know it had about 120,000 miles on it. There are a few problems with these. His ate brakes both front and back like they where going out of style, also after some time the odds of the dash shift selector going out is pretty good. There also was a problem with the heads on these avalanches straight from the factory. They only way to tell was to take the valve covers off to find out casting numbers are on the heads. http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/148

Gobbling but wont come a running
HectorBuckBuster replied to TurkeyFunatic's topic in Turkey Hunting
I am a big believer in that the birds need to see other birds where the sounds if coming from. I have hunted with all types of decoys but the Avian decoys just draw the bird in. I was looking at my daughters bird she shot yesterday and the colors he had where incredible. I think birds have just gotten smarter over the years with the hunting pressure and if you want to get birds to come in consistent you need to step up your setups. -
NYAntler read the attachment in the first post. It states For licenses, the new law treats crossbows as a “muzzleloader.” Hunters must possess a muzzleloader hunting privilege to legally hunt big game with a crossbow during any muzzleloader season OR during open portions of the early bowhunting seasons. The muzzleloader privilege is not required when hunting with a crossbow during the early bear season or the regular firearms seasons (or for hunting small game and upland game birds).
-
The state are classifying the crossbow as a muzzleloader.
-
Also think of the sale taxes collected on the sale of new crossbows. SO Andy gets more money from the sportsman then he uses it against us by passing unconstitutional laws and also uses our money against us when we sue the state and the us our tax money to defend the state.
-
Well it appears that Cuomo pulled a fast one on the crossbows. Since you need a muzzleloader tag, you have to cough up more money to the state.

I take mine off all the time. I can install mine in a couple minutes. All I have to do is drive over it, hook up the winch cable, then winch it up alittle this picks the whole plow and frame up, i bend down line up the pins, turn the handle repeat on other side then done.

My daughters first Youth Seasons Turkey
HectorBuckBuster replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Turkey Hunting
This bird came in fast he was puffed up and ready to fight. He was within in 2 feet of my Avian Jake Decoy and hen and was appeared he was getting ready to thump my jake deocy before my daughter connected. This bird was 10 yards from us, and never looked at us. I know the Avian Decoys are almost $100 bucks each, but are worth every penny. -
My daughter was lucky and she took this beautiful bird this morning. It was a amazing hunt that I will never forget. Being there and calling in her first turkey and her being able to harvest it, is something I will never forget.

This was my daughters second year of youth turkey hunting she is 13 and she did not have any luck last year. So, we went out Sat put on lots of miles and seen lots of deer and 1 hen. So of Sat afternoon I had my dart league banquet for the year, and one of my dart team member's told me that he seen 3 jakes on their property earlier that day and I was more then welcome to take my daughter there to hunt Sunday. So we get up and head out Sunday morning at 5am as it is only a mile down the road from out house. We get there and sit down and listen. We start hearing the geese, ducks, and seagulls, and the waves hitting the shore line down on the lake. Then we hear some grouse drumming. It was heard to hear, but I though I hear a gobble to the south about a couple hundred yards away, so we waited and I heard it again. So we get up walk about 100 yards down the hill, stop I make a call and he hear a goggle, so I look the area over quickly and walk about 80 yards into the woods from the logging road. I find a nice open area on the ridge. I set my daughter up by a tree facing SW and I setup out Avian Jake and Hen decoys (theses decoys are worth every penny). As I just finished placing the decoys I seen a bird fly down about 100 yards from me. I was like did I just spook this bird. So I got back to my daughter and sit near hear. I got out my slate called and did a light call, and he hammered the call with a gobble about 80 yards away. So I told my daughter get ready. I have here using a 20 gauge Harrington & Richardson because it is small and light. So I make another call and nothing. So we sat there and listed, and I heard a noise. I told her to the gun up on her knee and aim towards the lake. I could hear the gobbler puffing up and drumming but could not see him. Then my daughter says she see's him, he was at 20 yards and coming fast in the brush, he breaks out in to the opening and charges the jake decoy and now is at 10 yards,he puffs up front of my daughter. He is fully puffed up (not strutting and turns and faces my daughter), I am like shoot, shoot. then bang, She bagged a bruiser of a bird. The hunt over with by 6:10 am. Total time of setup and hunt was about 5 minutes after locating him. It was a amazing hunt, with the bird just puffing up and charging the decoy. The bird weighted 19 lbs and beard was 9 1/4 and 1 inch spurs. It does appear to have a second beard, but its tough to tell if it fits the definition of a true double bearded or just a super thick beard that splits. Her dad is writing the story as she was tired and wanted to get some sleep.

The federal government (or the crooks who are in the government) are trying to steal whats left of our natural resources. Clean Water is going to be a very valuable asset in the not to distant future, and they are trying to steal that from all land owners. Bundy is paying Nevada the fee's its just the the Federal government has taken or state property 20 years ago, and it appears this was done to steal the Gas/Oil and now solar resources from the state of Nevada and the cattle farmers.Bundy is the last cattle farmer of the 52 there was 20 years ago. The government has run them out of business.

Looking at ATVs

You say you don't want belt drive. I was the same way. Have a Suzuki 500 4 x 4 that your have to shift. Well got a good deal on my neighbors sportsman 500 (needed a cam). After getting it fixed adding a plow, my Suzuki just sits. The automatic Belt drive that I though I would hate, I love it. It plows all the snow in the world, and can shift between forward and reverse and can tow just about anything. The only down fall on the Polaris is you need to use the reverse override to backup faster then a snail. -
Finally! Flippin Onondaga County is the worst!!
HectorBuckBuster replied to Fletch's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Doc, I believe it depends what county you live in. In Schuyler County it only took me 8 weeks back in 2012, and my wife did her's in 2013 and took a total of 9 weeks. Schuyler County also issues concealed carry which be both received, and they also give you a coupon so you can take the pistol with you the day you buy it, you have 10 days after buying it to add it too your permit with the county clerk. -

So if you are on call 24-7 seems like you would be able to carry at all times, where legal (no courts, federal Building, post offices) -

You are bound to the restrictions that the judge set for you not just in your county but any NY County, Except NYC.. So it can only be for employment/sportsman. What do you do that is states employment as that is a restriction I have not heard of. -
I wonder if this all goes back to this order signed by Obama in 2011 ? This is why I bought a 4.3 acres of land that my land surrounded on 3 sides. I am protecting my hunting and shooting rights. Would hate to have someone anti or city person buy it and then complain about me hunting or shooting on my own property. The 500 ft rule could have been a headache on part of my property. I own a house I rent out on my property and any potential tenants I inform them even before they look at the property that I hunt, and do hunt the land right behind the rental house. I am not going to shoot my at my rental house, but if I jump a nice deer near it I will shot it.

With the hard winter we had, there might have not been a food source to hold them in that area. They may show up when the flocks break up and the grass grows, so the birds can eat bugs.
