...and now Hoppes #9 ,oil, bore brushes etc....check ? -
I'm starting to wash my hunting clothes tonight in scent free/uv free detergent . Will put in plastic tubs and use as needed. Never wash them again after the season has started. Scent free shampoo and soap and baking soda to brush teeth. No cologne at all til after season is over. Playing the wind I agree isn't everything but by far the most important. I've killed deer when wind is the wrong way, with half an egg salad sammich protruding from my mouth. It was easier than I thought to get a good cheek weld too, lol. I'll drink my thermos of coffee and have an occasional cigarette and pee from my stand. I wear a scenlock hood . Would I see more deer with taking more precautionary measures probably so. I'm always catching thermals where I hunt . I'll be facing into the wind and rolling the dice.

I've also heard the SST's don't expand real well and sometimes punch thru . I tried them in my 870 , they shot pretty well for longer distances but honestly don't need that extra where I hunt. Would rather have the energy dump of Lightfields.

Ground blind so daughter (13) can sit with me for morning then off to ballet for her. It's overlooking two parallel trails . Trails are used by deer to slowly meander thru the hardwoods . either side of trail has low lying browse and a few small stands of pines. Deer feel comfortable traveling thru this area as opposed to traveling thru open hardwoods. Blind is 100 yards behind my ladder stand and periodically see deer over my shoulder moving thru but I can't see them from there all that well and blow right at them. Hoping this new blind pays off as it sounds really good on paper. Hoping for no rain and decent temps so daughter can enjoy.

No camp here. Hour drive each way , uphill both ways with no shoes. I'll be making that drive Saturday , Sunday , Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday for starters.

Call them grinners as even when they catch an oil pan from a Ford F-250 at 55 mph and end up hugging the middle of the road they still seem to be smiling ( grinning )

Curious to if you "really" wanted your email addy as your forum name ?! -
My 870 and Winchester 1300 love Lightfields. They dump all their energy very well. Shot a doe a few years ago real close with the 3" variety ( like inside 30 feet) and no exit . I've heard guys gripe at no thru and thru for tracking. WTH, why do you need to track if the dead deer is right in front of you. Great patterns as well. My 870 didn't like the Remmy coppers either. They ain't cheap but they get the job done and I'll never switch to another. I'v heard of SST's not dumping and whistling right thru on more than one occasion. Anyone ever personally experience this ?

I know "hit " deer will go to water but that's ridiculous !!! You got your camo bathing suit on ? Good luck with that !!! -
Very true. Was thinking dirthole and forgot about "blind sets" and your spot on about blind sets being good producers

It's very tough as you know to get a canine the first of days of new steel in the ground. Not sure if it's human scent dissipation or what. But you'd think if they smelled us the first few nights they wouldn't return to the same set ?! It's usually 3rd, 4th day on. Hope you connect on some flea bag stink dogs.

Not trying to stir the pot at all . How many deer are wounded in bow season ? I know less than gun season but per hunter/bow vs hunter/gun the number would favor the bow hunter as wounding more ? And not denying too many idiots during gun season.
-
I think most gun shops, Walmart, Dicks, etc would carry them You sure it was hang fire due to primer or could have ignition hole in breech plug been clogged a bit ? Just a thought. I've never had a hang fire with Winchester primers yet. Just about done with a box too.

So you don't ever read Growalots posts ?!

Strangest thing you have seen/ have had happen while hunting
turkeyfeathers replied to ApexerER's topic in General Hunting
Of course chickadees landing on my shooting rail and barrel of shotgun. Saw a big eared owl land in a grape thicket 20 or so feet in front of me while I was spring turkey hunting. A bluejay came in silently and landed very near to owl, bluejay squawked and the owl literally jumped. Not hunting but while hiking out in ASP out far into the trails we came across about 15-20 different bras strapped to trees. I should have checked the cup sizes to see if different women Cow tracks on the trail I take into my stand. With red lens flashlight I thought "holy crap " there's a moose that came down from Maine here. Later in week I found hole in fence the escapee must have come thru Years ago I was ml hunting. Lone deer comes thru the apple trees. A lone doe I think. A little snow on it's head from recent snow. I shoot, smoke clears. Deer runs about 30 yards. I grab knife to field dress it. Flip it over. I yell out loud, "this doe has balls!" Yup, buck that dropped horns already. -
Yes you can.

Yup, that dye ....hated the feeling .Felt like the warmth started at my toes and quickly moved up my body . Being crammed in that machine and that feeling I did sort of wig out. Would be curious at what my heart rate was at the moment
