  1. Good friend and his 11 year old son were involved in a bad car accident Thursday night. Friend is in critical condition and son I'm not sure. He was texting me hours before from his hunting hut watching a few buttons and small doe. We were supposed to go hunt together tomorrow. This man is a true gentleman , a great father and an incredible hunter. Turkey grand slam, shotgun grand slam on turkey . Killed a big 11 point with bow this year and a 160 class perfect 10 point opening day of gun season. He blows me away with his hunting knowledge and passion for the outdoors. I'm always overjoyed when he calls or texts me a question about something woods related he doesn't know the answer to. Writing this at work with tears. Please keep him, his son and his family in your thoughts.
  2. Live from Tim Horton's. Kid you not 8 of 10 vehicles in drive thru are hunters. Good luck out there today. If you're getting wet in this rain just remember it could be worse . Like retail sales and Christmas music for me today lol
  3. Thursday Dec 4 Was a nice dusting of snow overnight . 25 degrees and a perfect light wind for me. Hunted from ladder stand til 9 30 and then took a long slow crunchy walk around the perimeter of 70 acres I hunt. Cut very few deer tracks. Did find where 3 smaller deer were getting chased thru the hardwoods by coyotes. Coyote and red fox tracks everywhere. More yote though. They need a thinning out. Tracked a opossum for a bit until I cut fisher tracks. Only found one other set last year. Tracked it for awhile but it eventually meandored off the property . Raven "wonk, wonking" most of the morning. Love hearing them. Tracked a boar mink along the creek on the way out. No deer spotted but a solid day none the less.
  4. {{insulated and water proof with a hole in one outsole, but quiet to walk in}} These and duct tape
  5. It's fine. I've been working on the same box of 777 for about 6 -7 years.
  6. In the same boat as you. Don't forget that buck tag rolls over to an either sex tag in ML season
  7. ditto. I cut some tracks yesterday. Only second time in area I hunt I ever saw them. Wish I had an aerial view of my zig zagging footprints in the snow as I tracked it
  8. Decided to take a long crunchy stroll of perineter of 70 acres. Cut very very deer tracks. Fox ran hard but yotes harder. Saw 3 sets of deer tracks ripping thru woods with coyote tracks near. Was tracking a grinner but just cut fisher tracks. Want to see him/her.
  9. 9h here. 25 degrees, light winds but liking the fresh coat of powder. Hunting til 10:30 with the muzzle stuffer again. Haven't hunted much this year but hoping to fill another dmp or buck tag this morning. Good luck today if you're out there. East n west roads sucked with snow n ice
  10. lIf you're reading a book while driving deer, you're doing it wrong : )
  11. Best $15 I ever spent was on a camo umbrella to strap above my head during spring turkey and deer hunting.
  12. Q: May I use my Regular Season deer tag during the special seasons? A: Your Regular Season deer tag cannot be used in the Early Bowhunting or Early Muzzleloading seasons. It can only be used in the Regular Deer Seasons in the Northern and Southern Zones to take a buck. Except, the Regular Season deer tag is valid for deer of either sex in Westchester & Suffolk counties, in areas restricted to bowhunting only (WMUs 4J and 8C), and during the late seasons with the appropriate bow or muzzleloading privileges. During the late seasons, the Regular Season deer tag is valid for deer of either sex.
  13. Per DEC website Q: May I use my Bow/Muzzleloading tags (either-sex and antlerless tags) during the Regular Season? A: No. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are only valid during the special bowhunting and muzzleloading seasons depending on which privileges you purchased. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are not valid during the Regular Seasons, except in Westchester and Suffolk Counties or by junior archers hunting with a bow during the regular seasons.
  14. can use ML but not ML tag til ML season. BTW : pretty sure regular season (gun) buck tags roll over into a either sex tag during ML season.
  15. Tuesday Dec 2 Sat 7 am til noon in my ladder stand. Goofy south wind with thermals. First time I've saw nothing. Well i did see a nuthatch as the highlight of the day. Nobody hunts my side of the mountain so these deer have no reason to move on their own. Dang it was cold. 16 degrees and really crunchy going in on the frozen leaves.
  16. Poor Santa's sleigh is going to be a biatch to haul around himself
  17. After 5 hours I'm bagging today. First time I've ever saw zero deer. I'm convinced DEC released mountain lions got em all since the last time I was out.
  18. 9h. Haven't been out since 17th. Nothing going on out here. Moved to ladder stand from ground. Goofy south wind with thermals.
  19. 9h here. 17 degrees , no snow and very little wind. Noisy in crunchy leaves coming in. Decided to sit on ground about 150 yards behind my ladder stand. Deer seem to be sneaking thru the hardwoods this way. Some scrapes and rubs too. Hoping for a puff of smoke from ml today
  20. Still at a big fat 0. Hunt Eagle/Bliss area and supposedly one of the larger NYS bears was killed down that way years ago. I toss my bear tag the day I get it, just my preference not too shoot one. (not opposed to others shooting them) Heck, every time in ASP we drive at night to the garbage dumpsters in hopes of seeing one nut again, nope. And in AK while fishing and hiking, not a one. Thinking I stand a better chance at this point of seeing Jimmy Hoffa, Elvis or a Leprachan
  21. Play the wind in your favor and set up there IMO
