Transgender Military Ban
Buckmaster7600 replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
For the same reason that a high school football team that has 100 kids try out will likely have a much better record than the team that had 20 kids try out. If I'm a recruiter and my quota is 3 kids for the month I'm getting 3 kids because if I don't I know I'm in big trouble, but at the same time if one of those kids fails to make it through boot camp I have to find 4 the next month because his number needs to be replaced. This all becomes a lot easier if I have 100 kids walk in my office in a month rather than me shaving to go walk the streets or the mall and try and find them. It's all about numbers. The more options you have the better the final product will be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Something I have been doing since I was a kid
Buckmaster7600 replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
My first Adirondack buck was a 202lb 10pt that I shot the day before thanksgiving about 15yrs ago. We had about a ft of crunchy snow and we were doing some drives. I was the youngest so I got vile told to take the top watch up in "the bowl." Probably a half mile very steep climb up to my watch left wool coat soaking wet in the 15deg morning. I layer my rifle against a tree and took of the wet jacket to try and dry out as I knew I would be on this watch for a while. As I was taking my jacket of I heard crunching coming from the opposite way of the drive. I grabbed my 7600 pump carbine in 308 as a doe came into the bowl at full tilt. Right of her tail was a buck. At the time I had no idea how big he was and didn't care. He was probably 80yds when I fired the first shot into his front shoulder as he was quartering towards me. He never slowed so I continues to shoot until my gun was empty. A few bounds after I fired my fifth shot he slid to a stop. I knew he was dead so I put my coat back on and put my spare clip in the rifle and waited for the drivers when we got him down the hill no one could believe that the kid "don't remember how old I was but wasn't very old" put 5 shots in that buck where his neck met his shoulder that could have been covered with a coffee can. He was dead on the first shot but probably went 40yds in all. I guess that's what started my desire to master shooting a running deer. I would much rather shoot every deer from now on while he has his eyes closed laying in his bed but if he sees me before I see him and he's on the run he is still in big trouble. He's the rack on the top right Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Once agin this quote makes you sound pretty sure of your self now you're saying call dec. To be honest I couldn't give a shit less what DEC says. I own 200acres and 95% of it is pastured I'm sure as hell going to hunt any of it I want to. From your post you make it sound like I'm breaking the law by putting mineral blocks in the woods for my cattle. It sounds like you're talking out your ass because you don't have a clue. That's kind of my point. I'm not trying to be an ass I hunt cattle pastures very often. I'm just curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You just said legal for cattle but not for deer, after a statement like that I figured you knew what you were talking about? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What if hey are in the same spot? I could fill everyone of my tags by shooting deer with their faces in my silage wagon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

anyone name their deer? Whats your favorite?
Buckmaster7600 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
I don't name them until they are dead, the name usually changes many times during the drag and isn't totally official until I have fully healed from the drag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

No idea where you live doc but I'm guessing it's not the Adirondacks. When I am miles from my camp that is 11 miles beyond a locked gate I have 0 worries of another hunter being anywhere around. Between trees and terrain it would be tough to get a bullet to travel 100yds in the areas I do most of my hunting. I reload and shoot around a 1000 center fire rounds a year of that 1000 less than 50 are shot of a bench. All others are shot freehand and often at moving targets. I don't know how many bucks I have killed with a rifle but I have a pretty good collection of horns on my wall and I would say only 8-10 were shot while standing still and probably 6 of them were in their beds. If I stand hunted I would have no need to practice the way I do because I would only shoot standing deer and most likely from a rest. The fact is I spend a lot of time in the woods all year to get my chance at a mature buck in the Adirondacks, if I want willing/able to shoot at running or moving deer like I am I would have killed far less deer. My goal going into every season is to kill a mature buck in the Adirondacks, being able to kill them on the run has made me successful at this for 11 of my 14 years of legally gun hunting the ADKS and 2 of those years I wasn't able to hunt due to being on deployment over seas. Thoughts on Leupold Scopes
Buckmaster7600 replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Their may be a better scope but I am a loyal leupold customer. I probably own over 20 of them. I have had to send 2 leup olds back 1 was a 1970's VX-2 that was my grandpas and it no longer held a zero I sent it back and they told me they were going to send me a new one. The scope had sentimental value to me so I asked if their was any way they could fix it and I was willing to pay for the repairs. They said they would get back to me and a couple days later they called me back and said they did the best they could. A couple weeks later I opened the box and it had my grandpas old scope and a brand new one with a letter explaining how they tried to fix it and that it was working but they weren't sure if it would last. That was 10 years ago and I put it on a 22 that also belonged to my Gramps it's still works as good as new. I always liked their products but from that moment on I will only own their products. You can't beat that kind of customer service Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

One day I will figure out how shooting a duck on the water or a pheasant on the ground isn't ethical but shooting a running deer is unethical. My shot to kill ration is a hell of a lot better at running deer than it is flying ducks and flying pheasant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I don't know if this page will work but it is somewhat related to the current discussion. https://qz.com/499618/the-us-marines-tested-all-male-squads-against-mixed-gender-ones-and-the-men-came-out-ahead/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Don't quote me but I have read the law and I don't think it says anywhere where you can only have FMJ round nose. The way I understood the law when I researched it was that only hollow points were illegal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the offer but not a fly guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
If pups it's likely one got hit and the other was standing around and got hit as well. Same often happens with fawns Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This isn't directed at the OP because times have undoubtedly changed but just like Moog stated since hunting became a hobby and not a way of life people have always hunted for different reasons. I think the biggest problem we currently have is too many feel that their way is the correct way. I'm sure social media/ hunting entertainment industry has had a lot to do with this because almost everything you see is from the "trophy" hunters. It's not just hunting it seems like everything in life others want to tell you how you should be doing it and how their way is better. I couldn't care less how many points, what a buck scores, how many trail cam pics etc etc about a buck some one else kills if they shot it I can only hope they were happy with it before pulling the trigger. Just for the love of god don't justify it with the "I thought he was bigger" or the "I probably should have waited" there is no reason for anyone to justify with anyone why they chose to shoot an animal. I have a pair of 8X40 Steiner's that I have had for years. They have pretty much found a home in the boat. I would like a little more than 8X so I figured the step to 12 would make sense but if 10 is the way to go that's what I'll start looking at. If 40mm is enough then I'll look there as well. I just figured bigger was better and I'll never be carrying them other than maybe on the wheeler once in a while. Thanks for all the help guys, I forgot mine in the boat and my brother and I went for a ride looking for deer and I had to use his redfields and they were awful. I think he payed 200$ for them. I need a new set of Bino's for the truck. Won't use them for hunting just to stay in the truck. Would like to stay under 800$ if possible. Want 10-12 power with at least a 50mm because I want them as bright as possible. I was considering these but not really sure who makes the best bino's in this price range any help is appreciated! I have carried a few out like that and let me tell you for a small 100-150lb deer there is no better way. They get much over that and it is no small task! I got about 20ft with my buck on my back last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't miss it, you have no need to try and justify it with me. If dragging fish with a canoe is your prerogative than have at it I guess, just not my cup of tea is all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
