sunrise/sunset +30 certainly wearing back tags DEC money needs to stay not diverted to general funds Split DEC up Environmental unit and Fish and Game These 4 good ones given above make my short list. As well as We need real fines for poachers, undersized species, over the limit, no license..... The fines are just ridiculously non prohibitive. Make the shit sting.......loss of licenses, BIG fines...

I'm pretty sure you were the one who brought up your pen deer and how this buck did not compare!! SGFY And pretty sure I said if you have controlled land let him walk. YNTCYFD

Good luck on him, I hope you see him!!

First day yea he would get a pass. If it was like Nov 15th he'd be dead.

Most of us have no interest in shooting zoo deer in pens though so in the real world....... I would put him at 3.5 just not solid enough for a 4.5 in body. Nice deer and in one of my spots he would be dinner. If you have a big chunk of controlled land then I can see giving him another couple seasons and hope. At 5.5 he should be a doozy!

Another thing I did not need to know about! Ignorance is bliss sometimes guys!! Going squirrel hunting now is going to freak me out with alien worms popping out of the carcasses! ick

I put in for the VT lottery I have 5 points in now. We will see how long it takes me to get lucky. I would guess an all in cost for Newfie hunt is what $7500+?

I wish you could get permission to shoot all the local geese in all the parks, school yards...... nasty things. Then the kids go play soccer, football....sliding and running around through goose crap! Down by the river here you can barely walk without stepping in goose crap.

How has hunting or where you hunt changed for you over the years
Fletch replied to sailinghudson25's topic in General Hunting
Over 30 years since my first opening day up in the Adirondacks. My dad and I would drive up Friday afternoon to my grandparents camp in St. Regis Falls. There was a group of us, my gramps, uncle, cousin, usually a family friend or two. I wore wool pants and a red and black Woolrich coat. Never had a pair of boots back then that would keep my feet warm more than 30 minutes!! lol If someone shot a buck, any buck, it was a big deal. No doe permits up north back then. It was a couple years of openers before I saw my first northern buck! Then I remember the southern opener. You needed 2,3 or 4 guys per one doe permit. 81 from the north country was stuffed full of northern boys headed south to hunt opening weekend. We would have 4-8 northern kin and friends come down. Then seeing all the deer on the cars headed back north later in the week. We did a lot more drives, I still hunted a ton back then just to keep warm and not get bored. No one used scopes, I carried a lever action 35 up north and a 12 gauge with iron sights down south. These days there are just too many "suburban" no hunt deer sanctuaries. The deer know where they are safe real quick. Lot more deer now but less daytime movement except on controlled properties. My places to hunt now most of the time are small and if I still hunted them they would be ruined for the rest of the season. So I am a big sitter now, though not entirely satisfied with that. I think hunting is a lot safer now, hunters more comfortable with all the high tech gear but there seams to be a lot more hunters that trespass, steal or just rude than in the old days. I miss the groups and hunting camps of the old days. There were a lot less other options in the old days as well on free time activities. Just kids sports these days compared to then........ -
I am pretty well set here too. I do need some new boots though so will be burning some Bass Pro gift cards, the boy needs new boots too. Besides that maybe a pack of broadheads and good to go.

That is a group of nice bucks!! Nope no shooter bucks in this state!!!

Starting making my own sausages has been awesome. This is the best smoked sausage I have made so far. I had to do a couple runs in the smoker I had to much to fit in one load. A home built big one would be cool. Share pics when you start that project gf!! Wooly we can work out some deal I am sure. I know there is some secret hunting/fishing spot you feel the need to tell me about!!

Had some venison stew meat to get used up so made up 20 pounds of smoked kabanosy. Man it came out good. Started out with 20 pounds and after smoke and dry down to less than 15. It was close to 10 by the time it got packed. It may not last another week!! lol All mixed, ground, stuffed in sheep casings ready for the smoker. In the smoker. In the cooler hanging and drying for a few days. Done drying. Vacuum packed.

I do agree the Dodge has had the best look out of them all for quite a few years now. Between my friends, family and myself out of about 5 of them we have all sworn off them though just have not had good luck with them.

One note on my current Chevy 2011, it just gets lousy gas mileage! I think its around 16mpg. One of these days someone will make a truck that gets 30 plus mpg on a real truck and it will be a game changer!

When I was just 16-17 maybe up north hunting the big woods with my grandfather. We got to the woods early in the morning. We were gearing up to head in and I had my Dads lever 35. after loading it and jacking in a round I was easing the hammer down and my fingers were so cold it slipped and pow. That will wake you up real quick. I was following safety rules and had the barrel pointed down and away so the bullet went into the dirt 5-6 feet in front of me. I though my pop was going to smack me up side the head for about giving him a heart attack! Just a year or two ago my Brother in law and myself headed about an hour away to rifle hunt. When I grabbed my gun I was like of crap, I left the bolt at home after cleaning it the day before. Was not driving back so he went on watch and I was easing out doing a very slow big loop out past him to maybe kick him something. I thought for sure that was the day I was going to see the Monster with no gun but thankfully I saw nothing that afternoon. I have had more than my share of snow filled barrels and scopes hunting in the snowbelt. I am always checking both now when hunting and use electrical tape now.

Dodge just plain no. I have had bad luck with them and just a hassle from warranty work. Also the fasted set of breaks gone through ever on a new vehicle. Blew a transmission on my last one like 500 miles over warranty.... F them... Toyota makes a nice truck. So does Nissan for that matter. Have had both as work trucks and a Nissan personally and toughest truck I ever had. I just have an issue still with not buying American so... GMC Chevy is my go to truck. Have had 3 in a row now. Best deal for the price in my opinion. Solid truck, minimal problems with any of them. The only one I have not had is a Ford and keep going to buy one but the prices compared to a Chevy are just stupid. Chevy I can always make a good deal and can't get a Ford within 7-8 grand of the price so I won't even bother. I would love a Raptor though if I had 60 grand to throw away!! Also with the Ford, stand back on the side of the box and try to put something in or out of it...they look cool and high but man if they get much higher you'll need to get a ladder to use the bed!!

Well thanks to Renellas video posted I may never eat a bear and chuck the wild pig shoulder in my freezer.......lol Just yik!!! I was better off not knowing!!

Well now I know why the no plow I threw out is not growing.... Oh boy I got a bunch of pups!! Had them a bunch of days in a row eating apples. This was a neat one. At first I was like hey who the ell is on my property!! Then I realized it was a second cam going off same time.

The best I have seen is going to one of my sites when the bucks are starting scrapes then take the dirt from it and the overhanging branch and move it to another of my spots by one of my stands. Had very good results. The store bought bottle stuff not much luck. I have liked some of the cover scents like researches earth scent wafers, that deer herd stick and the old Fitzgeralds Deer Dander.
