  1. I have one out year around I just pulled it Wednesday and it had like 4000 pictures on it! I last pulled the card in late March lol. Lots of activity and the bucks are putting on a few inches of antler, I did notice less fawns this year not sure why. I will get out another two shortly now that the bucks are growing headgear pretty good.
  2. I am no expert but from what I hear the tail is the only good meat. What I had I did not tenderize at all and it was real good. texture of maybe a tender pork chop I would say. My buddy said he tried cutting steaks and grilling and a bunch of other ways but none were any good but chunking and frying.
  3. This is one topic I have probably spent more of my awake and asleep hours dreaming and thinking on...lol As well as many hours in deer stand! I have headed out to Idaho twice on a friends 7000 acres years ago and passed hundreds of whitetails, just never saw the big one. And both times we were too early and the elk were still too high up. I had a chance to go on a mountain lion with dogs hunt but passed cause I have no use to kill a cat, I wouldn't eat it. In hind site I should have went to tree it and release it. Woulda been cool to see I am sure. Went to GA pig hunting 2 years ago and it snowed and we got skunked. Other than that my hunting has all been in NY. My biggest dream hunt would be on my own 100 acres with waterfront cabin, that I certainly don't have yet but that would be it. With a cold crisp morning a pair of dandy bucks and my son and I even better my daughter too but she would prob. pass on going. I have 5 years of pref points for VT moose and just started applying for GA gator permit. And I will be headed to GA next Feb. to hunt hogs again. So the gator, hog and a moose are in the works so to say. I would really love a big ass Central Canadian Whitetail but sitting in a blind for 10 hours in 30 below over bait is not how I want to do it. If someone else was covering the bill... Red Stag on the other side of the world!! Or African safari!!
  4. I have been on the fence on a 570 for a month or so. The guy here had em for 5499 last month but down in PA they were $4999!! I am waiting to see what offers and rebates get the prices here when the 2016s come out. If I can get $4999 how can I say no!!
  5. Oh here he is prior to being a snack.
  6. Met up with a buddy of mine. He is originally from Rochester and he now works down in Atlanta for me. He brought me up some gator tail from a 9 ft gator he got this past year. He also brought me a couple wild hog shoulders and a loin from a hog he got a couple weeks ago. Man I chunked up that gator tail soaked it in cold milk for an hour and dropped it in flour mixed with Cajun seasoning and deep fried. Dang that was some good stuff!!
  7. /agree too much bullchit......
  8. We can pay them in a matter of hours. We can just print the money. The debt is tied to so many things. Also so many countries owe us money as well. What kills us is all the foreign trade crappy agreements our government has got us tied into. China couldn't even think of pissing us off...what the hell would they do with no one to sell their junk to and no one to steal any new ideas off of. We worry about so many other things than our main problem.. our own government and how being a politician is all about money off the average Joes' back. Sorry off tangent....and yes the market is a joke. Insider trading pfft try to find a truly wealthy person who does not get "tips". While the Joes' get left playing the "fair" game...
  9. Or you could go with the - I'm a shitty hunter and want to shoot a big buck so would everyone else stop shooting bucks to make it easier..... I have seen plenty of shooter bucks on state and private land in CNY, I am honest in saying most have outsmarted me, but they are there and pressure can sure make them ghosts.
  10. Is it just me or does the deer look bigger than the bear? Looks like a small bear and he must have found her hurt or been real lucky. As to what to do, if not residential shoot the deer and let the bear eat it. I would want to end the deer's suffering. But as others have said just mother nature at work. I aspire to be a lot cleaner killer.
  11. Way to go Wooly!! I quit the cigs cold turkey about 10-11 years ago when my kids were small and I realized I sure as heck did not want them to think it was ok. Gave up chew a year or two after that. I never missed the cigs after the first year and now they smell like trash to me! The chew I still miss but will not touch again. I do have an occasional cigar here and there but nothing regular. I might go 5-6 months without one!
  12. Dang now I want to go on vacation up north!!
  13. I always have fun in Old Forge. A lot of nice places to hike and canoe. A spot to spend the afternoon hitting shops, the hardware store and such and some good places to eat and gets some drinks like the rooftop bar. Also a 2 hour drive is nice on a short trip. For a more expensive but more town/entertainment trip. Saratoga or Placid or even Lake George. Then there are bunches of more remote places for a more quiet outdoors only trip. We always rent a house or cabin from owner for trips from 3 days to 2 weeks. Then you do not have to worry about eating out 3 meals a day. Usually on the water so you just walk outside and go.
  14. There are all kinds of wonderful places. Been to all the ones above and a bunch more. Are you looking to rent a cabin, get a hotel, camp out, canoe the whole trip......
  15. I have a Hawke on my new Mission. Look up their website. It has the step down crosshairs for each ten yards. You set at 20, 30...... You also set the arrow speed on the scope.
  16. Caught a couple Saturday in the good eating range 14-16. Not enough meat on the 12-13. Also got into a couple northerns.
  17. Welcome Tim! The area you mention from what I hear has plenty of deer. I am sure some of the members closer to the area can give you some tips. For season dates look up future season dates on the NYSDEC website and it will give you the formula used currently. The bow opener for Southern is now Oct. 1st..... Good luck out there, I am not ready yet... bass season just started and need to enjoy summer a bit first!! But it is always on my mind, I am waiting for a couple cool days to get some woods work done.
  18. Vermont Moose draw next month, think I have about 5 pref points there. May also put in for a GA gator permit draw.
  19. My daughter is just starting the dating teen phase. The best advise is raise them right before you get to this age!! They should know what healthy relationships are with friends or boyfriends and how people should be treated. They should hopefully have values and morals you have been trying to instill in them forever now. That said it is hard to look at any boy near my daughter knowing what teen boys can be like! My daughter has never been allowed to go anywhere with anyone boys or girls that we did not meet and approve of first. And with a little recon work...we live in a fairly small town so that is easier. She has her first boyfriend now and he has been warned by me, my mother in law(that was funny!), and about 4 of my big mean looking friends.... He is actually a decent kid so far. But he comes here and either my wife or I are around supervising. And starting a few short trips during daytime like for pizza... he drives which is another issue. My wife made him drive her around to judge his driving skills. I don't want to let her out of my sight ever lol but I realize I need to trust my daughter to some extent and reinforce that we are always there for her and try to minimize bad decisions...
  20. Potsdam State back in - well lets just say a long time ago... When Playboy always ranked it as the #1 party school. Tuborg Gold man what awful horsepiss..... we were poor though and Monday $1 pitchers, Tuesday 25 cent drafts, Wednesday two pints for a $1............. I was present at the last Keg Blast - 800 kegs oh man no wonder I did not graduate from there!!! lol
  21. Thanks. It is a sweet shooter. I gotta say though any of the crossbow supporters that were saying the crossbow takes practice and skill just like a compound are nuts. My son, niece, nephew and wife all who have never shot a crossbow hit the bulls eye first shot at 25 yards with this thing. Reload time though especially in a tree stand is not going to make for any seconds shots.
  22. I did a version of this today. I did not do the peppers or chipotles I used a bottle of Guinness Added a container of fresh mushrooms quartered up Cup of chopped carrots A can of diced tomatoes A little celery seed And some barley DAMN IT WAS REALLY GOOD!! A keeper.
  23. Thanks for sharing Wooly! As usual your pics are top notch!
  24. Let me know if any sees CCI anywhere! Remington amo no thanks and my Ruger is not a fan of Federal
