  1. I woke up at 5 heard the rain and went back to bed! Rained up till 2:30-3. Got in stand little bit ago. Cloudy, leaves dripping and cooler now at 54 degrees. Should be a good watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Cabin that one sure is smaller than the other, quite a bit! Probably be a 180" deer someday though!!
  3. I have read that there are very very few truly dry does. So even if you see a adult doe without fawns they are most likely somewhere around. During breeding season especially does will leave the fawns for a bit. I have also read in numerous articles that fawns can survive fine without mama once the spots are gone. That said I will have no problem taking a doe with fawns as long as they seem like they are healthy and doing well, not late born ones. If possible a medium sized doe out of a group would be my pick. I took the matriarch doe once and it actually changed deer patterns in my area completely and never changed back. Won't do that again!
  4. Good luck out there, the leaves were falling like crazy this morning!
  5. I have used the rage 2 blade for 5 years now. This year and last the chisel tip. In 5 years and probably 200 sits I have never had a blade open in the quiver? Each year I replace the o rings if needed. They fly great and if you hit the deer in the right place ...well a blind man could follow the blood trail! If you hit them bad...just like any other bad hit hope to get lucky. I think the chisel tip is a much better point though if you do not hit on mark and hit the shoulder.
  6. Thanks, yes it says low of 39 here Sat and Sun night. And rain and wind Saturday should take down a lot more leaves. They were falling a lot this morning. Good luck to you as well!!
  7. Nice deer! Love the wavy brow tines.
  8. 10/3 am 57 Got out to my far stand out back this morn for 2 hours. First real sit in a long time!! Nice morning but no deer in sight. I did catch a glimpse of what I think was a fisher, not positive. If it was I am sure I will see it again. The wife did text me at 8 or so to tell me three deer were in the back yard, of course! lol They were all fawns, I have one doe who has had 3 two of the last three years. She is not a shooter! Back out in the morn.
  9. 10/2 pm 72 Just got out back to the field edge stand for an hour. It was real warm and it was more of a dry run to make sure all my gear was in the right pockets and such. I opened this stand up a while back so I will be hitting it a few more times.
  10. I have never seen a bear while hunting. One of these days. And hopefully at a distance....a long distance! Good luck out there!
  11. Thanks for sharing Wooly! That is cool. Why we love being out there!
  12. Never had a heart make it past the frying pan!! YUM I'll take that back I did pickle on once oh my god it was awful!!
  13. 10/1 I actually got up to go but it is so warm out I think I might just wait until this weekend there is a nice cold front coming. We will see.
  14. Little late this season. Was out of town and some other issues come up. Got back home last night and actually got all my gear ready. The stands were all taken care of over the past month, trimmed and ready to go. Have seen a few nice bucks on cam. a 9 and a 10 being the top two. My bro got out up north last week on last years tag and flattened a nice doe. Well good luck to everyone and I look forward to reading everyone's journals!!
  15. I have about 10-12 pounds of scrap left in the freezer I was going to make smoked peperoni sticks but am too short on time for that. Looking for a patty recipe. Not breakfast but something that would go good on a hamburger bun with a good mustard and fixins? Any ideas??
  16. Had one on my game cam here in 7A a couple weeks ago. Same area my brother saw one last year.
  17. I keep a logbook and a picture album. The number is not important but since I have been hunting deer for over 30 years there have been quite a few. The album is important to me. I pick it up and flip back through and I have a pic of every deer but one and reliving those hunts and those of my partners sure puts a smile on my face! Funny thing is my two biggest bucks were not nearly as eventful or challenging than a couple of the smaller ones. Like the first buck I stalked with a bow. And some of the most memorable are deer that won the hunt that day we met!!
  18. I will mostly do morning and evening sits. I work from home and can hunt out back or a couple other spots within 5 miles. I get out every possible day but have to actually do some work!! If the deer activity is good I stay longer. Most I might do is 4 or 5 hours unless as someone said above the bucks are running all over. Most sits I do are 2 to 3 hours. I could not sit or want to sit dark to dark. I want to enjoy myself not make it a job.
  19. Saturday my 12 year old took the Hunter Safety Course and is now a certified hunter. He has the lifetime I got him when he was 4 so now I have it in the mail to Albany to get his licenses. Can't just go to licensing agent. Sunday got out back and cleared my trails, checked my ladder stands and resecured them. Got a couple decent bucks on cam. A 9 and an 8 and a few little ones. Nothing real big yet. Need to get down to the hole and check my two stands there and check the cam.
  20. G1 9&8 G2 10&10 G3 5&5 Beams 21&21 Spread 20 mass 11-10-9 139
  21. My new one will be adjustable 125 to 220 pounds
  22. When my apple trees started to blossom this spring it started and stopped only part of the tree started blossoming and that was it. There was absolutely no frost here either. Weird! But yea real short on apples this year.
